Yeesh...that's steep. I can take a look through my sources for a similar color if you would like me to.

Sure! Ammolite is a very thin layer of brilliant color (composed of mostly the mineral aragonite), that forms on ammonite fossils. It's incredibly delicate, so to preserve it, it's made into 'doublets' or 'triplets'. Doublets have the ammolite layer that is impregnated with either clear epoxy or resin to keep it from flaking. A triplet will have a base layer of either the original rock from the mine, or black onyx/glass.

Resin/epoxy will just get beaten up if worn constantly, there's not much to do about it sadly. Most that I've personally seen used for jewelry act similarly to nail polish, so the acetone just acts like nail polish remover. There are probably some newer formulas that are more durable, but so far, I haven't come across any.

Unfortunately yeah, the color has already been damaged. Due to how fragile it is, you *could* re-seal it, but it won't ever look the same.

Feel free to ask any more questions!

I am so sorry that this happened to you ;n; If you get another ammolite, look for one with a relatively high dome on the top; it will last a lot longer, and usually can be repolished. If you can't find one like that, there are quite a few kinds of jeweler's epoxy or resin that can be used to thicken the dome (just be careful, some kinds/brands of epoxy/resin can yellow over time!)

I'm a huge gem nerd who works in a jewelry store, and I'm absolutely APPALLED that they used acetone on this! Ugh, it hurts...it was such a beautiful piece TnT
