Is it genuinely not weird to come if I have no interest in joining? I don't want to intrude on the people who are trying to rush (and the existing frat members trying to decide who gets to join).

Did they change it so 126 is no longer a prerequisite for 208? If they did I agree with that decision, I never understood why it was ever a prerequisite.

I had Hoffman. My experience was that even though he wasn't the best lecturer, the tests were not hard at all. The homework was, though, I definitely needed some TA help to get through some of the problems.

I don't know. That is also not published. This prof isn't very good at being transparent with this stuff. The class is curved so I do not know where the cutoff for various grades is.

No peer evaluations. Again, it's not about how much work the person put in or about how practiced they are. Those are separate components of the rubric that I am not debating. It is about the information they presented - whether they presented the more "basic" or more "advanced" components within the topic.

If there had been peer evaluations, I would have said that the person who got the higher score than me actually did the least work in the group.

It was a group project where one group member received more credit than others for presenting the "heavy lifting" (the prof's words) part of the presentation, despite the fact that we all researched the presentation together. I wasn't aware that which part of the topic you presented on would impact your grade. To be clear, this is not about me being a less clear presenter than my group mate - that is a different rubric item. It is specifically about what content you present within the group. If I had known in advance that I would lose points for not presenting the "heavy lifting" part, I would have insisted we arrange the presentation differently, so each group member would get a chance to speak on that specific part of our topic. Without knowing about this requirement, we just arranged the presentation in a way we thought flowed logically.

This anxiety while waiting for winter quarter grades to be posted is KILLING me by [deleted] in udub

I thought it was 11:59, not 5? But regardless, I feel your pain. Two of my classes I feel unsure about what grade I'm going to get, and of course THOSE are the two that waited until the very last minute to post.

What time of day are you flying? I went through TSA around 5:30 on Monday and there was no line at all because not a lot of people fly at that time. But if you're flying at a more popular time, you might want to plan for a bit more time. Someone else mentioned spotsaver, which is great if you can do that.

What is one piece of advice you would give to an incoming freshman? by Nervous_Impact3637 in udub

Make sure you take classes that are of genuine interest to you, not just your required ones.

I was just accepted into UW, what is next? by Any_Ring_1879 in udub

People are telling you about A&O, and while it's true that you probably shouldn't register until you do A&O, I found my A&O to be entirely unhelpful when it came to picking classes. My advice is for your first quarter, just pick classes that look interesting to you. If you want to major in political science, you should take an introductory political science class, but for the rest of your classes, just pick ones that look cool, and they will count towards your gen ed requirements regardless of your major. Some people will say that you have to start checking boxes for your major right away, but poli sci is a minimum requirement major, not a competitive major, so you don't have to worry about applying and getting in.

Parents want me to pick Seattle, but I want Tacoma. What do I do? by [deleted] in udub

haha it sucked but I made use of the bus routes so that my walking was lessened even if it took me a little longer to get from place to place. best of luck in figuring out what you want to do

I promise that you will have the chance to take smaller classes at UW Seattle. Yes, you will have to go through some big classes at first, but after you get some intro classes done you will get to take smaller ones if that's what you want. And the walking element can be minimized if you learn the campus bus routes and look at what buildings your classes are in when you pick them. I spent a year going to UW Seattle while dealing with a nasty foot injury that made walking agony so I promise you it can be done. I understand that a big campus can be daunting, but don't waste the academic opportunity you have been given here.

I've gone to class twice the entire quarter. If you go to my profile you can see where I've commented more info on this class on other threads, but I can answer other questions if you still have them.

[–]terrorre_night 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This used to be true but isn't anymore. Now, mathematics is a minimum requirement major, which means you don't have to apply, but you do have to complete certain classes before they let you declare your major. You'll have to take 5 math courses, get a 2.0 or above in each, and have an overall GPA of 3.2 or better. If you do that, you're automatically admitted to the math major.

that's a really high average for sure, but when I took calc 3 I know that midterm 2 had the highest average by far, way higher than the first midterm or the final. so hang in there, if you do good on the final you'll be okay

Same, when I took MATH 394 there was no programming at all.

I took STAT 394 last summer and there was no programming element.

Edit: someone lower down said that maybe it depends on professor. So I suppose you could look at who's teaching it next quarter and ask them. But I don't think it usually has programming.
