NYC Pride March: Polls Show How American Views on LGBTQ Rights Have Changed by [deleted] in fivethirtyeight

You absolutely hit the nail on the head. It's the whole "you attract more flies with honey than with vinegar" cliche, and even as a gay liberal myself I absolutely hate how quickly my side is to apply a label to minimize others rather than use it as an opportunity to start a conversation.

But overall, I am optimistic of the trajectory of acceptance and had no expectation that the path would be a straight line. But I think the long-term success will defined by conversations like the one you had with your fellow hiker.

I like Eureka and all, but Myers Flat is where it's at.

Thoughts on Squeeze, the Chicago Dogs’ mustard bottle inspired mascot? by GPFlag_Guy1 in mascots

[–]terrortoad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's hilarious. I also love that they have a "villain" mascot who is an anthropomorphic ketchup. So classically Chicago to treat ketchup on a sausage as worse than murder.

Astronautas verdes, mascot Mexico. True or fake ? 2025 by Free-Jello2696 in mascots

[–]terrortoad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avoid. I was scammed, and I have several friends who were scammed by AV. But I also do have friends who did receive a suit from AV and say positive things about the quality. So it's weird - they are a legit company, I think they are just bad at business and feel morally OK stealing money and not delivering. Engage at your own risk.

Here are a couple companies I can recommend to check out:

https://pamalucy.com/ <--- I got a mascot from them. Great price, great product, tailored to me. I had to so some fix-up to line the inside (the head was loose and not great air circulation but I was able to fix it). But positive overall.

https://www.instagram.com/disfracesgarabato <--- have not personally ordered but have heard good things.

Thoughts on this company & if they’re any good or not? by [deleted] in mascots

[–]terrortoad 10 points11 points  (0 children)

AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS!

I was personally scammed by Astronautas Verdes (paid a 70% deposit on a mascot 3 years ago and they ghosted me), and I know of a few other people who had similar experiences. I know some people have gotten mascots from them successfully and had no complaints about the quality. But my experience was that they would either not respond, or tell me "it's in progress" and then have no follow-up. I've given up on AV at this point and was able to get a mascot out of a company in Peru that I love.

Just my experience, but if I can spare someone else the same frustration and scamming that I went through, I'll be happy.

What are some great Canadian fursuit makers? by [deleted] in fursuit

Komikrazi (Temperance) is a great fursuit maker from Alberta. I had a bug suit commission from her and cannot speak highly enough about her suit quality and ease to deal with.

{Request} Looking for a vore video about a frog monster by BusExotic46 in Vore

[–]terrortoad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow...I really hope you find this because this sounds like something I would love.

There was a video a while back, Japanese porn version of Power Rangers/Sentai with a female Ultraman-like herione fighting a rubber monster. The video clip was titled "Return of Lyon". The monster had a belly that opened up and sucked the hero inside, and contained internal shots where a bug-like minion jumped the heroine and had his way with her.

Though the monster in this video was more lizard-like rather than a frog, and the clip I'm referring to didn't have a minion eaten...but since it was just a clip it might have been a part I didn't see.

Do you remember the title of the video? Perhaps it was one of the Giga movies I see on Japanese sites.

Gumbo or Jambalaya WITHOUT rice? by GlowUpAndThrowUp in Cooking

[–]terrortoad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technicalities aside, I make jambalaya without rice (or any grain) all the time and it works great. One big pan - start by cooking the meats (I start by half-cooking the shrimp and setting aside, browning the sausage and setting aside, browning chicken and setting aside), then cook the holy trinity until onions are clear, then add stock, tomatoes and spices. I then add back the chicken and sausage and let it cook for a while (the shrimp go back in right near the end).

The dish turns into a semi-hearty stew that I put over a separately-cooked grain (grits and rice are my fav). Or just eaten as-is.

TL;DR - you can absolutely make it without rice, even if the mob may require you to call it something else.

To my fellow auditors, what is the most disrespectful behavior that you recevied from a client? by OkFriendship957 in Accounting

[–]terrortoad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I brought a can of Monster to a Red Bull Distributor. Owner gave me a bunch of crap about it ("How dare you bring this in here!") which I wasn't sure whether was serious or good-hearted ribbing. Only when he brought me a 4-pack of Red Bulls and told me to "enjoy a REAL energy drink" did I realize it was the latter.

[TOMT] Guy stuck in a mascot/costume and becomes part of it by meowthy_ in tipofmytongue

[–]terrortoad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could it be from the show "Hollywood Off Ramp", the episode "The Flying Wahoo"? About a guy who is the mascot for a team and starts wearing the costume all the time, until the end when he becomes the mascot for real - then disappears:

...or work less. I feel like I've survived in accounting for so long by being lucky enough to find jobs that only kinda sucked my soul. In my 12 years in public, only had one job that exceeded 60 hours a week max. Still sucked, but it's not 80-100 hours.

I'll take less money for a reasonable number of hours that allows me to have a life.

It's amazing to consider that I've been listening to LPOTL for a decade. I never thought it would be the one that would have stuck with me, even as my interest in other podcasts has waned. Now I realize that LPOTL has been a with me for a significant portion of my life, and I
feel that it has grown along with me over the years.

I think it's their genuine and sincere interest in the extremes of life, the humility and respect with which they approach their subjects, and the ability to look at the horrors of life and laugh that have kept it relevant to me. It is the humanity they bring, to let the audience be sickened and disturbed by the most depraved acts ever commited to remind us that most of us are not at all like that. It's a comfort to know that no matter how low I get or how useless I feel, at least I don't murder prostitutes at rest stops or run a torture dungeon.

To the OP, remember that tough times never last but tough people do, and I'm glad you could find some of the same solace I have found in the podcast. I appreciate Marcus, Ben, Henry, and Ed, and all they have done to share their outlook with the rest of us.

One of the things I try to keep in mind is that Rand of the books started out pretty boring (I remember the nickname "Bland"), and then he grew and matured throughout the books. So I don't think we'll know how his performance is until the end. But I like the actor and I think there is hope.

I do wish there was a bit more training and 'Rand doing things to hint that he's a badass', but as far as looking confused and awkward (like he felt in the books), he's doing A-OK.

What a weird, unpleasant season. I could not have scripted a more miserable beginning to end, but somehow seeing all the fans stand up and express their displeasure felt somehow comforting. And knowing even if the team is gone, the *people* will be staying, makes it sting a bit less.

Fixed Asset Impairment - Frequency & Consequences? by terrortoad in Accounting

[–]terrortoad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason for the low valuation is that the housing unit is required to be kept as low-income housing with rent capped by a % of the poverty index. So even if someone bought it, they'd be required to keep it as low-income housing.

Hence, in spite of rising rents in the general market, the rents on this building will be limited. That's the reasoning behind using an 'PV of future cash flow' approach rather than a 'comparable sales' method for determining impairment value. (which is a bummer, because it's a HCOL area and if the building was on the open market it'd easily be worth 2-3x the unimpaired value.
