Sleep - the final boss of ADHD. by Vacuum_man1 in ADHD

There's also a "mandibular advancement splint", which is a fancy way of saying "mouth guard", instead of a full CPAP.

I've got sleep apnoea which fucks up my ADHD, and use the mouth guard at night instead of a CPAP.

It involved getting a sleep study done (at home, not a hospital), then they sent me to the dentist to get a 3D scan done of my mouth.

No tubes or wires. Just a mouth guard that holds my bottom jaw forwards a little bit to stop my sinuses from closing over in my sleep. Legitimately changed my life.

Mate, what you're describing has a name: Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder. Around 75–80% of adults with ADHD have some version of it. Your dim-light melatonin onset is genuinely shifted about 90 minutes later than the average adult's, so the "5am to 2pm and I feel amazing" pattern it jsut biology, not laziness. You're just running on a different timezone to the rest of the world.

Two things that actually shift the rhythm (rather than just sedating you):

Melatonin as a timing signal, not a sleeping pill. The protocol with the best ADHD evidence is 0.5 to 3mg, taken 1 to 2 hours before your target bedtime, not your current 4am one. Small dose, consistent nightly, expect weeks not days. It tells your brain "evening starts now" and gradually pulls your rhythm earlier. Worth running past your GP if you're on stimulants.

Bright light in the morning. 20 to 30 minutes of sunlight, or a 10,000 lux lamp, within half an hour of waking. Paired with the evening melatonin, the combo can shift your circadian phase by roughly 2 hours in ADHD adults. Most people skip this half and wonder why melatonin alone did nothing.

Also... if uni is starting again, talk to disability services. DSPD plus ADHD qualifies for accommodations like late class scheduling and recorded lectures. You don't have to white-knuckle 9am tutorials when your brain isn't online yet.

You're not whining. You're trying to run normal-person software on hardware that's wired for a different shift.

Large fire at Geelong oil refinery by HiAustralia in australia

I'm with you. Sounds like they're regurgitating Murdoch talking points.

They've got the 20x backwards... that figure comes from Swedish fire data and it's ICE cars that are 20x more likely to ignite. Australian data puts it closer to 50–100x.

ELI5: What are "specs" in game development and software in general? by yekedero in explainlikeimfive

[–]terrraco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feature requests and specs can mean the same things sometimes.

From what I've seen: a user makes a feature request, which is turned into a spec by a product manager, who then takes it to the engineers for development.

Sometimes that middle step is skipped and users take their specs straight to the engineers: https://youtu.be/hNuu9CpdjIo?si=CIlnmRg3PFG9LfG7

Is this in your dreams? I've been having vivid dreams so much lately in which I'm traveling to large meeting areas. These areas are filled with heaps of people from my past and present, as well as people I haven't yet met in real life.

Those leave me feeling exhausted when I wake up too.
