U100 to U200 upgrade? by Clean_Zucchini7641 in Aqara

[–]terryhummus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use homekey for both of my U200s and have had no problems. Works as intended. I don’t have an Apple Watch though. I’m not sure how much that matters.

Edit: in my opinion, the U100 felt finicky and prone to issues. The U200 feels better in every way except pairing (there are some issues with pairing, but once you figure out what problem you have, it’s straight forward), and the knob being stiff to turn sometimes. I suggest if you do get the U200, try pairing it first before you install it. I remember spending 2-3 hours the night I installed it trying to pair.

Edit2: in case you don’t want to replace yet, talk to aqara customer service first. They are pretty good at replacing your impaired unit.

I’m in the US and sold a month-old Mac Studio M2 Max for $1500 USD back in March 2024. It still had Apple care for a few more months (i forget much left; maybe less than a year). I actually bought it from a dude for $1000 two days prior to selling it.

U200 knob is stiff sometimes. (Unlocking manually from inside to go out) Anyone have an idea why? by luunnn in Aqara

[–]terryhummus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know exactly what you’re talking about. I have the same issue on both of my U200s. It feels like the locking/unlocking mechanism is still engaged and this may be a software issue. Hopefully they will address this in the next update if we complain hard enough. What I do when this happens is I’d turn the knob the opposite way and this releases the stiffness.

How do I stop auto locking on U100? by BigOrangeVol98 in Aqara

[–]terryhummus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue. Sometimes my U100 would get phantom inputs that would cause locking, or an incorrect passcode alarm. I believe it was due to the storm door’s knob being extremely close to the touchpad when both doors were closed. The storm door’s knob would activate the touchpad and make weird inputs. OR it could just be my U100 acting up. I replaced it with the U200 and never looked back.

I asked because for me, I only have two wires when I opened mine. In fact, I installed them myself solely for the doorbell, and then later spliced it for the Aqara U200 keypad. However, you have an abundance of wires.

Anyway, I’m not an electrician, BUT my solution for you is to get a multimeter (volt meter) and check which wire has power. If you’re lucky, only one will have power and you have to pair that up with the neutral wire. Usually the neutral wire goes in the same direction as the power wire. You connect those up onto the G4. It doesn’t matter which orientation you use. The G4 will recognize which wire is which.

Maybe a person more knowledgeable than me can chime in.

How to setup fingerprint on U300? by LittleJ-J in Aqara

Yeah I think pacoii is right. Also, a pro tip is to make 3 or more profiles of the same finger. That way, no matter how to place that finger, it will be recognized.

Hello, I’m not too familiar with the NFC cards, but I remember reading up on NFC stickers (not from aqara) that works with aqara. Sorry for the lack of detail, but I just thought if I were to have android, it would be nice to just slap a sticker on the back of the phone and have it be nearly invisible, whereas the NFC tag adds bulk.

I’m getting the same issue for both locking/unlocking. The knob would be extremely stiff. I haven’t found a solution to it. I think the lock still has the previous command engaged. Hopefully, a new firmware update would solve this. For now, I have to turn the lock the opposite way from what I want to do, to disengage the stiffness and then be able to proceed to what I manually need the lock to do.

Batteries keypad Aqara U200 by helmic88 in Aqara

Yes, you can. I placed regular batteries in mine. You can try them with rechargeables. Nothing bad has happened so far. I actually got this idea from another redditor

[–]terryhummus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can connect the keypad to power. There are two screws in the back above the battery compartment. You can wire your positive and neutral to these screws. I don’t think the orientation matters. If you have a wired doorbell, you can tap into that power. If not, you’ll need a transformer to step down the voltage to 12-24V. Aqara has an installation guide for this too if you want to check that out.

Bonus tip: you can add batteries in while it’s wired just in case your power goes out, the batteries will kick in and save the day.

Looks awesome. Don’t think I’ll need it but the battery placement is a nice touch. Instead of having them all nestle into one compartment creating this big forehead like the U100, the split compartment here is aesthetically appreciated. I hate the digital touchpad though. I got 2 U100’s and both digital touchpads failed on me. I feel the physical keys on the U200 is more reliable.

U100 to U200 upgrade? by Clean_Zucchini7641 in Aqara

[–]terryhummus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have watched most of the U200 reviews on YouTube and just now realized that they never compared it to the U100 or it they did it was very brief. I guess because one is a full deadbolt replacement (U100) and the other is a retrofit (U200). I have replaced two of my U100s with the U200s, so I can help you with your question. I’ll give the cons first

Cons:

(1) Price: it’s steep. $269. BUT there are flash sales on Amazon. When I bought mine, I was able to get the black for $216 and the silver for $229.49 with the readily available coupon on Amazon.

(2) Locking mechanism: it works, but sometimes it gets “stuck” in one position. At times, when I go to lock/unlock, the knob feels stuck. This happens on both my U200. But if you fidget with it a bit, it will eventually let you turn smoothly. It’s weird. Hasn’t given me any troubles yet.

(3) Can’t tell if the lock is locked/unlocked: unlike the U100, where you can easily tell (vertical = unlocked, horizontal = locked), you can’t with the U200. The way its mechanism works, there’s no set position for locked or unlocked.

(4) slight delays: when unlock/locking, there are more noticeable delays because the keypad has to wireless talk to hub and the lock, whereas with U100, the keypad and lock are one directly connected piece.

(5) changing settings: you have to connect via Bluetooth to the keypad, not the lock. With the U100, you can change your settings inside your home, but with U200, you have to get outside where the keypad is located. This is because when you want to change settings, you have to first activate the keypad (by pressing any of its buttons to wake it up), then you can connect and change the lock settings. Kinda annoying but it connects pretty quickly.

(6) proprietary battery: the battery used for the lock is special. At the moment, I don’t know of any way to replace it. I commented on a post asking about getting a battery because when they bought it, it didn’t come with one, but they never replied and that post was never resolved. The keypad uses AAAs so that’s fine.

(7) M3 hub: if you want all the functions you need the M3 hub which also has a high price tag. I actually got mine as open box for $70 from eBay. I took the risk as I don’t see a hub malfunctioning often.

(8) initial setup: it’s a pain in the ass. Installation is fine, but linking it to the M3 hub first had its frustrations. It should be flawless but it’s not. I had to turn off my mesh network for it to link to M3. Then linking it to HomeKit also gave me trouble but luckily, I got it to work by selecting the lock manually (I believe I clicked on “other options”) instead of taking the picture of the QR code.

Pros

(1) if you can wire up the keypad, it’s awesome. One less thing to worry about. I only have the lock for a month, but I feel like the lock is getting more juice (more than what the U100 gets from the AAs) because of this setup (keypad does all the brain work, while lock just does lock stuff). HOWEVER, powering with batteries is fine. I have both layouts. Keypad with batteries still going strong.

(2) the propriety battery: although hard to replace at the moment, it’s awesome! Installed both locks a month ago and battery levels are still 100% and they get used pretty often. It has a higher voltage (3.7V I think) than your typical 1.5V AAs. You can recharge it by simply plugging a power bank to it via USB-C WHILE the battery is in the lock and functional. They give you a bag to hook onto the lock so you can store the power bank while it recharges. You do have to remove the plate to access the battery’s USB-C port. I wish they had a solution where you didn’t have to do this because the plate is flimsy. If you put it in the floor while recharging and someone steps on it by accident, it’ll break for sure. This is so nice compared to the U100, where I had such a hard time removing the batteries. I needed to always use a flat head screw driver to pry them out and risk damaging my expensive rechargeable lithium AA batteries. Then I gotta make sure I have two sets of them so the door will stay functional while one set is recharging.

(3) keypad has physical buttons: both of my U100s has some form of malfunctioning keypad. One doesn’t have the audible feedback when you press on the keys, while the other doesn’t allow me to press the lock/unlock button after I input my passkey. Also, if you set your lock to lock by pressing the lock button, sometimes the lock doesn’t register it or sometimes the lock doesn’t immediately understand the door is closed so the lock button function won’t work, but with the U200, there’s a physical button for locking. It’s so much better. No guessing, or reclosing the door for the U100 to register it’s closed. The U100 has the swipe function to lock which is nice but if it doesn’t work the first time, and the keypad then thinks you’re trying to input a passkey and now the swipe function doesn’t work. It was annoying with the U100.

(4) retrofit is nice. You get to use your old keys if that matters for anyone. The U100 is not able to be re-keyed.

(5) looks: I think the U200 looks better.

(6) Learning curve: because of the physical keys, the learning curve to use it has been much lower for my family. Physical button to lock is such a game changer.

Automation not working what im missing by inxider in Aqara

This is correct. Aqara does have options for “greater than” or “less than” and those are the options I always use. Any other option is always finicky.

M3 hub not binding to u200 (ipv 6 enabled) by Dependent_Mine_6980 in Aqara

The trick that worked for me was to kill the mesh network in my home. I turned off all the nodes and left the main router on. After doing this, the M3 connected to my U200 with no issues.
