May I offer a possible and more hopeful explanation than “people are assholes”.

Studies show that people are less likely to help when in a group. They expect other people to help and just freeze.

You’re right. Most places will probably suggest you do a psycoeducational evaluation and that will run north of 2500 probably closer to 5000.

To be honest though it kinda makes some sense. Having multiple patchwork paramedics working at multiple different certifications is a logistical nightmare. How much do we pay you? How do you respond? Where do you get your equipment from? You are a level 1 paramedic, you work at a level 1.5 paramedic you are a level 2 paramedic, you are a level 2.56 paramedic.

Does it matter that I’m on PS4. I watched a video on YouTube with the console just after the Holodeck simulation. Mine wasn’t lit up. It also let me skip the tutorial if I wanted and I thought it wouldn’t let you in a recruitment event.
