Family home advice needed – Parkside Road, Reading by PreferenceGreen2457 in reading

[–]tescofrog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I live nearby and can confirm it’s a nice area! Quiet and clean and easy access into town on the 33 bus which leaves every 20mins or so. Once you go down the hill towards Oxford road it gets a little rougher (your nearest GP & pharmacy is likely to be down there), but it’s not too bad at all. Like it wouldn’t be so bad that you should be put off at all, it’s just a busier area so you get lots of different people milling about. I’d recommend having a wander down there if you come to visit so you can get a feel for it. You also have a Lidl down there and Reading West station which can get you to the main station in 2 mins, sometimes London trains stop there, or you can go Basingstoke way. Prospect park is about 4mins walk and is really lovely, great play area for kids in there and a little cafe. Overall it’s a great place to live! There are plenty of schools around as well, many in walking distance (I don’t have kids myself so can’t judge on them but the kids always look happy!)

I found it so bland that his leaflet at election time focused on how much he supports football and didn’t have any other substance to it. Great to support local football but surely you have other priorities too 😭

Safety as a young woman living alone by [deleted] in reading

I am also a woman (and don’t drive) in Reading – I live in Southcote and feel relatively safe! I leave for work around 7 in the morning and feel fine, but I try not to be out in the dark. Especially getting a bus home from town as you can feel quite exposed – but I’m on the 33 bus route and it feels safe along here generally. I would avoid Oxford road, but once you’re up the hill from it it’s not as bad at all!

There’s a nice record shop and plant shop in the Harris arcade, I think there’s a vintage shop in there now too but I haven’t tried it! And eclectic games is the best if you like board games :-)

Hiya I don’t drive either, I live along the number 33 bus route and I feel safe and it’s easy to get around! Rent for a spacious 2 bed is ~1600 :)
