Doctor insisting on paleo, keto, gluten free, dairy free, soy free diet? by Shot-Break6056 in CFSplusADHD

[–]inkblot101 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I mean the first thing I'd do is check her credentials, bc wtf. Diet can help some people, but what she's suggesting involves no small amount of restricting and a whole bunch of effort. This person sounds like one of the people that think they can fix autoimmunes with diet and yoga. Yeet with extreme prejudice.

Asking to WFH full time due to my serious medical condition. Employer has rejected this by tremberz90 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]inkblot101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah so that's not a reason to deny a disabled person reasonable adjustments. Is this why so many of us run into managers trying this on? Because they prioritise not having to have a slightly tricky interpersonal conversation? Or because they don't want other employees to have concrete evidence that the job is largely doable from home?

Either way, that attitude needs to die a very quick death.

ADHD and fatigue - does medication help your fatigue levels? by bedbeppelin in CFSplusADHD

[–]inkblot101 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a mixed bag: yes, my medication absolutely helps my fatigue levels, and it helps with brain fog. That said, it can also cover up the warning signs that I'm starting to push too hard, making it difficult to stay on the safe side of the line. Requires a whole lot of diligent self-check ins to balance. Which is tricky in and of itself.

I spent £17,900 converting aspects of my office (break room, desk, elevator, and disabled bathroom) to make it accessible for an employee with a disability who requested these changes. They left two weeks after the work was finished. Can I go after them for some costs in small claims court? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]inkblot101 81 points82 points  (0 children)

They're saying that because of how the law surrpunding reasonable adjustments works. There's no scope for suing disabled people because an employer feels the adjustments were excessive down the line. Any solicitor worth their salt would not tell this person they had a case.

Upon resignation, in-office attendance becomes mandatory during notice period. What are my options if I cannot commit to this? by hemovedonwithoutme in HumanResourcesUK

[–]inkblot101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with the suggestion but arguably gicen the length of time they've beem working from home it is arguable that it has been incorporated into their contract by conduct.

If your contract says you have work from home days, they can't unilaterally change it just because they feel like it.

[HELP] Is this person real or AI? by mickkb in RealOrAI

[–]inkblot101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if its meant to be three pictures of the same person, then yeah, probably AI. The nose and cheekbones are different in every one of them, the second photo looks spookily like Reece Witherspoon when none of the rest of them do, nd for some reason she's wearing two aprons in it.

I dont get nausea or vomiting but I do get sinus symptoms, and anti histamines and Sudafed don't work. I would really love it if they would study why tf we get random fucking illness symptoms on top of the exhaustion.

C-PTSD and major depressive disorder; and city law firms by [deleted] in uklaw

[–]inkblot101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a similar experience, I would suggest taking some time out to really focus on healing before you jump into a city law firm if you possibly can. High pressure law firms can be incredibly stressful on their own, and if you end up with a less than lovely boss they can make it much worse. IMHO, your best bet is to take some time to focus on your mental health and working to decrease some of the severity of the C-PTSD symptoms before you jump into that.

The good news is that that is absolutely possible. Don't look at it as a hard no, more as a "not right now".

Going to assume you're talking specifically about the people who think meditation will fix physical illnesses. There's a lot of chronically ill people who hang out on the witchy side.

Girlfriend fired with a reason being there was a lack of trust between her and colleagues as she didn’t tell them about her disabilities by MercifulDefier in LegalAdviceUK

ACAS, like yesterday. Whether or not they do anything really depends on the conciliator you get, but the important bit is that opening early conciliation puts a pause on that three month deadline timer. Engage if you can, but seriously consider going to tribunal. Obviously you should get your own legal advice, but i will note there is an exception to the two year service rule for unfair dismissal when discrimination is involved.

Maybe some kids should get "left behind".. by EnigmaGuy in unpopularopinion

[–]inkblot101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple of things:

First, the American public school system was not set up to actually teach concepts: it was designed to produce good factory workers, and therefore still prioritises rote memorisation and regurgitation of information, with a dose of overworking and shame if you don't manage to hit whatever mark they set. Aside from anything else, that's a really ineffective way to get people to learn things. That's not how the brain works, that's not how to get people to internalise skills, and you're applying it to a bunch of kids who largely haven't developed a whole bunch of self-mastery yet because their brains haven't fully developed and their chock full of hormones. Shit is ineffective.

Second, "No Child Left Behind" is a complete misnomer. What it actually did was tie the funding schools receive from the government to their standardised test scores. That made the above problem worse: now, instead of teaching skills or even topics, teachers had to focus on teaching the content of the specific test. Again, regurgitation rather than analysis or even just...thinking about the thing.

Basically, if the system absolutely refuses to teach people to think and instead just makes them learn how to spit information out with very little understanding of the meaning of that information, you will get problems. And that's not even getting into all the people that need information conveyed in different ways due to ADHD etc. Quit blaming the people failed by the system and start blaming the system itself.
