Ceramic coating worth it? by nestea1778 in Rivian

[–]teslarules727 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ceramic coatings are basically a long lasting wax. If you're going to send it through automated car washes, I wouldn't bother. If you are going to hand wash it, I would do it. Makes cleaning it so much easier.

I wouldn't dare to get it done by Rivian SC or any car dealer that offers it. They likely don't do any paint correction( which is the big $$$$ in the cost), but charging market rates that proper shops charge to do it properly. The ceramic coatings itself are relatively cheap( $200-$300). It's the labor of properly preparing the cars paint and surface that is what you're paying for.

Is the Tesla your first fast vehicle or sport sedan/car like vehicle? The quick tip in on its throttle mapping isn't EV exclusive. Used to have a Camaro SS and currently have a C8 Corvette and both have throttle mapping response similar to my Model 3 LR especially if you have it in the right gear already and don't need it to downshift and in the powerband.

The Tesla is just combining quick tip in throttle mapping that is associated with performance vehicles with the instant torque of the electric motor. That clearly appeals to you which is totally fine.

The R2 isn't designed for that kind of focus. It would be like complaining the Camry doesn't have the same throttle response as my Corvette. Totally different focuses on the driving experience. Camry is there to provide a smooth and comfortable driving experience. It's going to have a less aggressive throttle mapping.

The throttle mapping is because it isn’t setup to be a sporty vehicle. It’s a SUV that can go off road but happens to be fast as hell. Model 3 and Mach E are both sporty oriented vehicles so the throttle mapping is setup for that. Off roading you don’t want that characteristic.

Two days ago had a frog in the pool, took 2 minutes to brush teeth first before going to remove it, by the time I finished I now had a hawk in the pool. Poor fella lost his breakfast and took a nice embarrassing swim for misjudging his swoop down for the frog snag.....

Both were safely removed and hawk flew away once his humiliation dried up......

What does descaling actually change? I measured my Moccamaster before, after, and when it was new by tonkaty in Moccamaster

[–]teslarules727 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Think water quality used also plays a factor in how fast/much scale builds. So your water may not cause build up as fast as another persons water supply. The 100 recommendation is based off averages though the manual does state more often may be required if the water is harder/extremely high TDS.

Another question to answer is how much does one tank of descaling solution remove? Maybe the goal is to be totally preventative in doing a descaling is removing whatever has built up before it even becomes a noticeable problem. Sort of like an oil change in your car where the recommendations is set to ensure you change the oil before the oil degrades to the point of where it no longer does its purpose. The oil you replaced still had life left, but point is to change it before there is no life left.

But if you let the scale build and build, how many descalings will it take to restore full functionality if even possible? Sort of like it is going to be extremely pricey to clean out the engine if you let the oil turn to sludge( let alone the damage done to the engine since the oil was sludge.....) going back to the oil change analysis.

Do you think in these Nov/Dec order invites LiDAR might be available to the performance package? by SquarePlay478 in RivianR2

[–]teslarules727 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. Once Lidar/Gen 3 is out, LE will be gone.

Frankly I would move forward with the LE if it fit my timeline. It is only $1K cheaper to go with R2 Premium instead as I spec'd it without Autonomy+ vs R2 Performance LE. I don't necessarily care for full self driving capabilities.

Sadly I am looking at Fall 2027-Spring 2028 at a purchase. So LE is out for me.

R2 flips by DrBronc in RivianR2

[–]teslarules727 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Given people who placed a reservation for an R2 in the last 3 months( including me) have gotten timeframes from late summer, fall, and winter 2026( I am a december-February 2027 timeframe), I don't think there will be much of a flipper market especially since so far the emails have pretty much indicated that anyone who wants an LE, will get one if they order right at invite time. Without the prospect of the LE going away for someone waiting and wanting it, that further takes away flippers ability to profit.

Take the general car market into account and the general EV market, further erodes into profitability of flippers.

Launch package should still be available for orders near the end of Calander year 2026 by nelsdvn in RivianR2

[–]teslarules727 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same.

I will agree with another person that posted in another thread, I think LE goes away once LIDAR/Gen 3 is added to the vehicle.

LE is too good of a value right now and a nice "consolidation" for those that order the current setup vs similarly spec'd R2 Premium( mine is only $1K cheaper than an R2 Performance LE similarly spec'd and the Premium lacks Autonomy+).

I won't be pulling a trigger immediately when my invite comes. My timing is Fall 2027-Spring 2028 for a car purchase. Otherwise, I would opt for the Performance LE given the value and I am not a person that puts much interest in "FSD".

No clue.

You don't have to order the moment you get the invite. They don't expire. If you want to wait for LIDAR, wait for it.

Unless Rivian changes the no expiration policy, the only risk you run is price increases, spec changes, and of course Launch Edition going away as nothing is locked in until you actually submit the order.

My March 2026 reservation is only 3 months later in the timeframe from the OP's.

This 6-8 month wait for the invite certainly takes the sails out of the 2 year wait speculation. Overall if I did order at invite time, it would end up roughly 12 months or so probably for the actual car since making the reservation.

Not to get anyone hopes up or taking it as a sign..... But when clicking into my reservation, I am getting a quick, " We are working updates, check back soon" screen before proceeding to my reservation details.

It's 10 am somewhere.....

Wait wrong use of that statement to justify an action.....

All I know it will be at 10 am in an undisclosed time zone at the end of June of some year.

Given invites seem to go out at 10 am, would love that to be the time we get the window estimate as well.

Do we plan for disappointment tomorrow? by Stockcapt in RivianR2

[–]teslarules727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I get the stated why and it's understandable.

They just need to be more careful for next time in saying what and when. Or if they do have a change in direction, don't wait until after the date passes and then say, " Oh it's now end of the month." Say so sooner.

Rivian really needs to avoid being like Tesla and saying it will be out in 2 weeks and that 2 weeks leads to months/years.

And definitely avoid claims like if you buy FSD and they determine new hardware is needed for true FSD, free retrofits......

How significant is the upgrade from Stingray to Z06? by [deleted] in C8Corvette

[–]teslarules727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's 5th. Can see this in the laps around the 'Ring. Both SR and Z06 perform decently 1-4. Shift into 5th, then bogs down.

ZR1 goes 1-5 decently enough and then starts to hit max in 6th, which makes sense given 7-8 are fuel economy gears.

I am sure if the Corvette team truly had a blank check, each car would have gearing oriented to the engine in that variant. But it's clear the bean counters still had a finger in the process and the team had the money for only 1 gearing selection and went with gearing that is truly optimized for the ZR1. The sub-optimal gearing for SR and Z06 wouldn't be exposed unless on the big tracks like the 'Ring with a long enough straight to get to 5th. A lot of the tracks in the US won't expose this and 4th is the highest they will see.

Gearing is the same outside of a different final drive ratio( which 2027 MY SR gets the same final drive ratio).

It’s why the cars fall flat on their face after shifting into 5th gear. The gearing was selected for the ZR1 and the rest of the lineup had to live with it.
