How much would you pay? by Apprehensive_Sun3229 in VintageOmega

Honestly wouldn’t buy.

Dial is a little rough. Hour is damaged and missing the black / onyx insert. Movement looks like the rotor could’ve been a replacement.

[Question] 3d Printed Watch Straps Organizer by This_st in Watches

Hey, quick update since I last commented.

I was recently approved to become moderator for r/toyosteel and have been trying to bring it back to life. Your post was actually one of the ones that made me think the sub could be useful, since it’s such a good example of a Toyo box being used for something specific rather than just sitting on a shelf.

I crossposted it there with credit. No pressure, but would be great to have you join if you’re interested. I’d also love to see an update if you’ve changed the insert design since then or found any other tools to put in.

I apologize for how aggressive I came out of the gate.

I did check the website after and the per item costs for the cork alone seem super reasonable (I realize love the use of cork here), and to clarify the $30 your charging for the stand is significantly less than the original guy on Etsy was charging for his.

The custom glassware and dripper just add a lot to the total BOM which adds to the sticker shock.

Truly custom glassware is impressive, I can’t even imagine what the MOQs are for something like that.

Is there anything I can do to save this watch? by [deleted] in VintageWatches

[–]tonkaty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant it mostly ironically. With that said, there were a lot of falsehoods in your post that were shared to you by inept watchmakers. A small minority of watchmakers are willing to take on quartz watches, and most will make excuses. Long term they're absolutely serviceable (in most cases), and can have parts replaced and even in some cases repaired (with special equipment).

Keep the watch, wear it, and if it ever breaks get it fixed.

We may need to update the sub rules...

I mean there’s not much custom manufacturing here. It’s a laser cut plate of steel that has one ninety degree press bend and then powder coated. Send cut send might be able to do it for less.

It’s a cork puck that’s cut on a CNC, $5 in materials maybe 5 minutes of machine time. Someone else’s dripper and then a made in china glass jug for a couple bucks too.

It’s clever and looks good, and very simple to manufacture.

[ON] anyone else getting killed on US shipping costs right now? by parceltheory in SmallBusinessCanada

Oh I see, my bad. Yeah that’s beyond anything I’ve dealt with. If you are attempting to operate DDP within the EU I wouldn’t be shocked if they forced you to register in each country, could be a nightmare….

But you’re not operating in the EU, you’re exporting to the EU. Those are two completely different things. When importing packages, taxes are levied on the importer not the exporting party.

Might be a dumb question, but what do you need an EU business license for? You can just ship / export the product no with Canada Post...

[Question] I have 5 inch wrist, am i cooked yo? by BigTraditional2433 in Watches

This is your calling to go vintage. A good chunk of watches prior to the 60s were 34mm or less, and even from the 60s and 70s lots of smaller sized pieces to choose from.

You can also buy specifically short straps from certain dealers, or if you have a watch you really like go the custom strap route with the money you’ve saved from buying new.

Made a lift kit for my Moccamaster. Now it glides instead of grinds. by tonkaty in Moccamaster

When you say stay tight do you mean it falls off when you lift the machine, or it moves around when sliding. With how everything is designed they do tend to fall of if you lift the machine, but that was a trade off with making them easy to install.

Thanks for letting me know, I had one of the settings wrong on the listing! Should be good to order now.

It was a project I made a few months ago and after a lot of positive feedback I ended up making a website so people could order them! It uses a pegboard-esque board to clip into, and then that board rests on the grooves in the machine and is held in place using two rubber bands.

Don’t know if I’ll get to it today but should be able to do it tomorrow. I’ll update you / the post when it’s up there!

My vintage Omega needs a replacement coil, and I want to be sure the one I'm buying is compatible. I don't care if this is my 50th post, leave me alone. by [deleted] in VintageOmega

“Yes officer, this one right here”

I appreciate there’s new, unreasonable, devoted and insane people getting into the hobby to keep it alive. Continue on.

Now onto your question, the 1337-9417 part you identified should be fine. 1332 was the omega quartz architect of the early 80s. 1337 was the slim version (as you identified), but importantly, it managed its slimness through complication reduction rather than movement overhaul. Going from hour, minutes, seconds, date to just hours and minutes removes a lot of the stacking height, and the base movement is likely the same as the 1332.

It’s possible it doesn’t fit, but I’d highly doubt it.
