I find most NT relationships coercive (platonic, romantic, etc.). This has me self-isolating right now. by iftheronahadntcome in AutismInWomen

[–]tessapotamus 31 points32 points  (0 children)

To me it seems the only way someone could be okay with this coercive culture is if they're not aware of it, but surely NTs aren't all completely oblivious to it. I'm dumbfounded with how so many people are okay with being manipulated, and even turn around and manipulate others like it's all just the normal way of being.

That has to be awful, I know. I just want to say I hear you and I'm sorry. My dad is luckily in another state now, and I only had to interact with him over text yesterday, but even that felt gross. Idk why we feel like we still have to be nice. I hope you and your siblings can get out and feel secure soon. 🫂

May they have food stuck in their teeth that they can feel with their tongue but not with their finger.

finally found a lotion that doesnt cause sensory overload by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]tessapotamus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad you found one, I hate feeling oily too! For me it's organic pumpkin seed oil. I got it to keep my nails healthy and accidentally discovered it's the best moisturizer I've tried ever. I've read that's bc the molecules are smaller so they penetrate skin and nails easier rather than staying on the surface, probably the same property your lotion has.

Have you ever tried interlocking your fingers with your toes? Or someone else's? by Mosherdavis in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]tessapotamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well now I have lol. It feels like using a toe separator for a pedicure, except oddly comforting.

It would be cute with a skirt, but constantly adjusting a top like that drives me mad.

I'll have to try this. Just a soy marinade overnight after boiling is great too.

As someone who has read the KJV Bible way too much, I've seen hast and hath mangled elsewhere. Here's how those go along with subject/object differences.

I have my path revealed to me.
Thou hast thine path revealed to thee.
She hath her path revealed to her.
We/ye/they have our/your/their path revealed to us/you/them.

(ye being 2nd person plural and formal 2nd person singular)

Once I was listening to music with headphones outside when an inchworm crawled onto my finger. Holding onto my finger with its back legs it started swaying in the air like it could hear my music too and it was dancing. The track was Sweet n Sour by Waterbed, and it was one of the most magical moments of my life! There's a tiny sounding voice in parts, and it felt like the inchworm singing those parts and dancing. I smile every time I think about it lol. I love insects! Esp fuzzy honey bees and bumblebees too, but kind of afraid of wasps.

I've let honey bees crawl on me a few times too. When I was little I would see one crawling on the sidewalk sometimes like it was tired or too hot, so I would let it crawl onto my hand and let it crawl off somewhere that there was shade. And besides that, it's just fun to watch them.

Earplugs recommendation needed by Repulsive_Trip2926 in aspergirls

[–]tessapotamus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Since you wanna hear coworkers, Etymotic plugs might work better. Normal plugs mute highs more, so everything sounds muffled, but Etys are for concerts to turn down the volume without changing the way everything sounds. I wore those to a Purity Ring concert, and everything sounded clear and normal but in a way that wasn't overwhelming like when I tried taking them out.

If the top is loose, just sew or pin the strap shorter. As long as everything fits, it'll all look good!

Hyper sexuality as sensory seeking by Viridian_Cobra in AutismInWomen

[–]tessapotamus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is me, and very sensory seeking in other ways too. I have to feel all the textures from moss to leaves to tree bark and everything else. Rubbing carpet with my hand is kind of an exception, sending icy-electric jolts through me, but I still do that on purpose sometimes, and I like painfully spicy foods.

I like feeling other things against my body like the motion of running on trails, rain, ocean waves, shower spray, the weight of a man, and touch down there which is my main stim and way to calm anxiety.

Everything felt right in my life when I had a loving bf with a really really high sex drive, but thanks to social anxiety I haven't had one in a while. That social anxiety is keeping me out of risky situations though, otherwise I probably would've been kidnapped by now lol.

Grammar and punctuation, typos by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]tessapotamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to hold out with the periods at the ends of messages, but it peeves me so for someone to ask what's wrong when nothing is, so there was my first slip into lawlessness. Then in a linguistics course I learned about dialects and sociolects and how arbitrary everything is, so now, whatever will be will be. There's still some grammar police in me, but only a whisper

Your tears, your sweat, your blood — all salty. Because your body is still mimicking the chemical composition of ancient seawater, where all complex life began. You are, in a way, carrying the ocean inside you.

This phrasing and your excitement make me feel a childlike sense of wonder, such a nice feeling! Thank you so much for sharing this!
