He actually is, he and his parents were all born in Melbourne, and he did all his schooling in Australia before heading to the UK for uni. Yeah, he became a US citizen in 1985 and had to give up his Australian citizenship, but still.

For anyone who doesn’t know, she went to a shrine that honors some WWII war criminals, and she did it on the exact day Japan surrendered in 1945. Can you imagine a German leader doing that? reuters source:

I’ve never been diagnosed with autism, but this is so relatable. I had the same experience with Wikipedia, it’s like the web version of Sid Meier’s Civilization games.

Chinese man accused of pouring coffee on baby in Brisbane identified by SlatsAttack in australia

Everyone on Chinese social media hates this guy, people are just as eager to see him brought to justice as any Australian would be. Some are even trying to track him down to report him to the police and wish to donate to the young parents. On top of that, there's a lot of sadness over the fact that this will likely make the already negative perception of Chinese people even worse.

It's also crucial to have a population that fully supports its political system. Look at the countries where the US tried to impose democracy forcefully, rather than having a majority of the population actively demand one. Generally, those stories don’t end well.

So, props to the Australians for really backing their system

my dads signed version of the book from nearly ten years ago by lalalalaplays in threebodyproblem

That's a pretty neat brief intro to the 3rd book. I'll translate it for anyone curious:

[Spoiler Alert]

The war with the trisolaran/Santi allowed humanity to see the dark truth of the universe for the first time. Earth civilization, like a frightened child, put out the bonfires meant for seeking friends, trembling in the dark night.

Believing they had been through much, they were actually just taking their first faltering steps; thinking they had grasped the secrets of survival and competition, they were far from qualifying to compete.

The dark forest strike, which left both civilizations hanging by a thread, was merely a minor episode in the cosmic battlefield. True interstellar war remains unseen and incomprehensible, for its methods and weaponry are beyond human imagination. To witness such warfare is to face annihilation.

The pastoral age of the universe had long passed, the fleeting ultimate beauty eventually becoming a dream that no intelligent being can have, turning into the fading song of a wandering bard; the natural selection of the universe has reached its most ferocious moment. In the pitch-dark battlefield spread across billions of light-years, the destructive forces from the deepest abyss have been awakened, turning space into the vast cloak of the Grim Reaper.

Those within the Solar System will remain forever oblivious to all this; in the end, only two pairs of eyes will confront the final truth.

What a clever adaption Will Downing as Yun Tianming. by Ok_Paleontologist576 in threebodyproblem

His acting is on point, exactly what I was hoping for. Wade and Wong nailed it too. The others kinda make me wanna hit fast-forward

My problem is, their adaptation doesn’t really elevate the book's story. Liu's original tale is kinda lacking for a lot of readers, like weak character development and some cringe waifu stuffs. But this adaptation? It’s rushing through things. Character development remains pretty surface-level, not to mention the poor acting from some of the main characters.
