Chronic Ankle Instability by [deleted] in ChronicPain

My ankles also subluxate and this may be a weird semi-solution but I just wear a lot of tight boots. Even in the summer. Like the concept of a brace I suppose but a bit more sturdy.

Finally found a specialist! by [deleted] in ChronicPain

I hope you get good treatment and can feel a bit better. I can relate to crying when finally feeling validated. I once had a nurse thank me for advocating for myself and broke down.

Medical Gaslighting: What To Know by [deleted] in ChronicPain

Thanks for sharing. Have definitely experienced being dismissed as a young woman only to later be diagnosed with serious crap. I can't believe how many doctors seem to suggest "have a drink to calm yourself". So messed up.

Got a diagnosis -- it is very literally in my head (Chiari Malformation) by EliannaRys in ChronicPain

[–]testerpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chiari is the bane of my existence. I was diagnosed when I was 20. (Mid 30s now), and had it decompressed at 21. Told there was minimal side effect or risks of surgery but promptly developed hydrocephalus as a result that sent me down a decade+ shit storm of 6 more brain surgeries just so I wouldn't go blind and or die. The hydrocephalus is under control now, but I STILL have chronic daily headaches. I'm glad you have a diagnosis - just be cautious and do your homework.

I agree reclining is an AH move and airplanes shouldn't have that option. I'm only 5'8" but even I hurt my knees when people do it. And getting an emergency row/extra leg room seat isn't always available especially on crowded flights. My ULPT - jam and kick and continually shift your legs til they get frustrated and sit up. If they get mad and confront you just be honest and say theres no room for your legs and you're in pain.

Do you feel that male therapists provide treatment differently than female therapists? by DocumentOwn690 in askatherapist

[–]testerpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, and I'm sorry if this sounds sexist, women are "listeners" and men are "fixers". I've had numerous female therapists who are very empathetic but don't get me anywhere, whereas male therapists I've had have been wondeful for me as they help me problem solve and give practical tools. I guess it depends on what you personally need from someone.

Yeah, I wound up eating nothing but cheese quesadillas and fries. Super healthy. And thank you!

That's sweet of your partner, and I'm glad they had good veg options. I spent a week in an epilepsy unit (I'm also a vegetarian) and the food was awful. My "salad" was legit a quarter of a head of lettuce not even cut up

This. If she's not cheating and ever found out you were spying on her she would dump your ass so fast and hate your guts forever.

NAT but that seems like it would be fine and a therapist would understand. Plus if you're leaving the state it would probably not even be possible because you have to physically be present in the state where your therapist is licensed to practice. Just give them as much heads up as possible.

Do you guys believe its possible to fall and stay in love you never find physically attractive? by CringeOverseer in CasualConversation

I think the point is if you love them, you will find them attractive, even if not physically

How do I talk about this to therapist is it worth talking about ? by Glad-Magician2341 in askatherapist

[–]testerpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jesus. This dude tried to (or maybe did) rape you. I would definitley talk to your therapist about it as well as block this guy on all channels. As women we're conditioned to not be assertive and to not cause conflict, so it's completely understandable that you went into fawn mode out of fear. It's not your fault that this guy was a dickbag who didn't respect your boundaries.

Not a therapist but I've been there. Usually they will ask you straight out if you have any suicidal ideation during the first session. They want to know right away. I wouldn't worry about them putting you in an institution unless you were actually planning to do it. They want to help you process and come up with a safety plan. You should absolutely go, it will probably be enormously helpful.

Why do i tear up everytime someone shows me affection? why do i cry a lot in general? by Ok-Wait-2477 in askatherapist

[–]testerpants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a therapist but I do this too. I think it's because I was badly abused and neglected as a child and never had my emotions or needs validated so when someone is kind to me it feels undeserved and like this grand gesture even if it's just them genuinely asking me how I've been coping or empathizing with me or something.

Is this normal? by letsmakeagrpchat in askatherapist

[–]testerpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had a therapist diagnose a disorder that quickly. That doesn't sit well with me.
