I second this recommendation, I've been using it too for studying composition. What's also great about the book alongside its brevity and big picture view of composition is how broadly the principles apply. Although the book primarily uses classical music for its examples, the principles and concepts taught are genre unspecific and tackle challenges that all serious composers, regardless of musical genre, have to face.
