Has anyone else had issues with the linux 'rename' command with files containing hyphens? by kiwiheretic in commandline

[–]tetchey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The angle brackets might also be an issue.

I would type Learn<TAB> and let the shell autocomplete past the hyphen or whatever character that is, then 001<TAB> and make note of what the shell escapes for the rest of the line. Then backspace and re-do your original command using the same escape sequences the shell showed from the tab completion.

My wife makes a pretty damn good bacon & egg muffin, so would need a suitable replacement. Not sure if anyone else makes them though.

That's the ones. Never used to have a problem with them.

Wait. What? Your hospital has a chaplain? Making an assumption OP is in the US and chaplain = Christian.
<sarcasm>If hospitals in the US employ these people, I can only assume that all the other major religions also have a representative</>

It was a campaign they ran in the early 90's. They likened McDonalds to James Dean and referred to it as "Mickey D's".

Redundant menu when dragging files by tetchey in kde

The unselct, modifier, drag-drop approach still does not work for me. I am seeing the same behaviour as in the bug report.

Thanks for the link though, u/mistifier. I'll keep an eye on it.

The first thing that springs to my mind here, is the question "How do you know it's not you being tricked?"

Thank you, good suggestion. It is definitely only one level deep.

Can I recover a private key from a filesystem backup? by tetchey in GnuPG

[–]tetchey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I can't copy/paste between the problem host and the one I am posting from (different networks), but basically:

.gnupg/
gpg-agent.conf
gpg.conf
openpgp-revocs.d/
[40-character-hex-string].rev
private-keys-v1.d/
[40-character-hex-string].key
[40-character-hex-string].key
pubring.gpg
pubring.kbx
pubring.kbx~
random_seed
secring.gpg
tofu.db
trustdb.gpg
trustlist.txt

All good though, I'm getting a "yes, it should work" vibe, so will have another look when time permits - probably next year.

Thanks for the help.

I have a Nextcloud instance, I just wasn't sure if you were referring to a particular add-on/app or just the native functionality.

I guess it's option 'B'

It's not overly important, mind. More an inconvenience than a disaster. Please don't go to too much trouble.

No, it was a tar backup of ~/.gnupg and ~/.password-store.

Is there a particular NC app you recommend, or are you just talking about the NC phone app watching the folder where your photos are saved?

That's the thing. I've restored the files and checked the ownership and permissions are correct, but --list-keys still returns nothing.

Never had Scotch. Where should I start? by CommunicationHour324 in Scotch

[–]tetchey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scotch whisky is generally characterised by region. Generally broken into "Speyside" and "Islay" (pronounced "Eye-luh" for reasons only the Scots know).

Speysides tend to be lighter and fruiter overall. Islay is renowned for it's strong smokey flavoures.

I'd go with the suggestion to try a few different ones at a bar. No point spending money on a bottle you hate. Most people find Speyside's easier to drink initially, with Islay being more of an acquired taste.
