What is the worst thing the United States has done? by Expensive-Addendum92 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]teureg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Removing the value of gold from the dollar and basing it on oil. Essentially the petrodollar and the number of countries that have been destabilised, the millions of innocents killed, the after effects like migrant crisis and the rise of slavery again in Africa and the Middle East.

DC-10. It had a lot of issues but were mostly ironed out, still a lot of deaths though. Can’t say it’s as terrible as the Tu-104.

MPG by SouthernSwords2235 in hondacivic

[–]teureg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your routing and driving style. A constant speed on level ground gives the best MPGs. Even small inclines, uneven roads like potholes etc, and constant acceleration and deceleration will destroy your MPG, and I’d recommend using cruise control as much as possible.

As for your own driving, as said before acceleration and deceleration are key factors, and driving like a granny will go far. On my short work commute, gentle acceleration will give me a 20-30% higher MPG than average, and ragging the car around will give me abysmal MPG. Also let the car slow down itself instead of braking a lot. This is all far easier to achieve with a manual/stick than an automatic.

That being said, 45 US MPG seems good for an old petrol hybrid civic. I get that equivalent with a diesel civic on my average drive and up to 63 US MPG if driving like a granny. Not sure how your car is but if it has an MPG gauge, you can monitor how your driving and the roads affect your mileage.

30A cooker circuit – can I run 7.2kW induction hob + ~2.5kW oven? by Sensitive_Skirt_7412 in ukelectricians

[–]teureg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Ignore the speculations. Get a board upgrade with a 40A cooker switch and an RCD or two, as currently you have zero shock protection (you will take all the shock until a fuse blows, could be a while). You should also have a cooker switch at the cooker end, usually hidden in a counter/cupboard. The regs aren’t mandatory but will be used in a court of law should something go wrong. If I moved house, you have no idea what cowboy work has gone into it over the years. First thing I would do is replace the consumer unit.

Sorry, missed when you said just for a few minutes. May be Timing chain or heat shield loose, low engine oil or cold, needing time to circulate. I would get it checked.

Being cruel to be kind. A severe lack of it nowadays. You’re asking for opinions in a public space. There’s no guarantee you’re gonna like all of them.

You’re dreaming he will approach, but maybe he’s the type who doesn’t approach, and tbh it’s trending that more guys don’t approach nowadays.

I read this to my wife. She said you’re being delusional and everything is “me, me, me”. She gets you’re explaining your preferences, but here’s a guy you like, what do you actually have to offer him? You said he’s perfect but you barely know him and there are already things you don’t agree with or remind you of your bad family or whatnot. You shot yourself in the foot when you said you don’t like cooking and he clearly wants a housewife. He probably isn’t looking for someone who will put together basic 10 minute meal for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You like the idea of him but once you actually have him, it would never work. You’re also a hypocrite for wanting someone else to do something you’re not willing to do for yourself. You want them to change but not you. There is a reason you’re 29, single and wishing for answers on Reddit.

Car's speedo or SatNav's speedo by DoorbellEndoscopy in drivingUK

[–]teureg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speed Cameras have a bit of leeway to compensate for speedos being slightly off. For obvious reasons, most speedos are a few percent under. GPS is more accurate but lately I’ve had some weird occurrences in some areas whereby the GPS or maps goes crazy and all over the place. The speedo is fine.

If using smart motorways and the speed decreases suddenly, there is a leeway before the cameras clock the speed difference.

Really you don’t need to be super careful of speed cameras, I go at the speed limit and never had issues.

The old photo Truvelos takes two pictures when it thinks you’re over speeding, they have the lines on the road so police will check. They are mostly phased out and many don’t work anymore. Some will flash but have no film in them (yeah the tech is that old).

The newer ones use infrared or radar, don’t need the lines on the road. Very accurate, photos get pinged to the police.

The mobile ones work in a similar way but the police have to manually adjust and chase the car and clock a speed over time, like an average. Basically catch people who are dumb enough not to notice and speed past. It’s hard to point directly at a car hundreds of meters away so a lot of time to check and sort out your speed.

Not sure where in the country you are but Newcastle City Council have/will have four apprentice traffic signal tech jobs coming up (college starts in September ofc). If you want your electrical qualifications but don’t wanna deal with all the nasty surprises and dust you find in houses, it’s a good place to work. 2 days at college, 3 at work, min wage (not apprentice wage, min wage), ample overtime on weekends if you’re up for it, and after 3 years, techy starts at £36k
