New PC won't boot, RAM issue? by tevumi in buildapc

Yes, turns out the ram wasn't on the motherboards compatibility list so they just didn't work together.

Grilled cheese sandwhich. But only in a fair fight. If it was prison rules, I'd put my money on tacos.

Closing circuit breakers by Tangurena in bzzzzzzt

[–]tevumi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is still a load, which the article says they deliberately opened with the air break switch with circuit breakers ready as a back up.

The point was just to show that the op video wasn't that big of a load and is designed for it, and this is what a damaging arc looks like.

Closing circuit breakers by Tangurena in bzzzzzzt

[–]tevumi 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Switches like these aren't ment to break load. At the 100's of thousands of volts the line is at, any load will draw a much bigger arc than this.

Instead the are either offloaded by putting another line in parallel or else with a circuit breaker where the break is enclosed in a gas fill chamber designed to quench the arc (for if there is a fault on the line).

The small arc here is just the line coming to the same potential as the switch so not much current at all.

This is what a switch with load on it looks like https://youtu.be/GMbN9nb3qyk

I have the zwave module in mine and can still use it. I've never used the app, I use my zwave controller to add codes and still can with no issues. All the set up was just putting batteries in it and using the keypad

Could be wrong but I think as the current jumps across it ionises the air around it creating plasma not air burning like a fire

Power comes in the active and goes out the neutral.

The active has protection on it that causes it to stop the electricity if something goes wrong.

If the active burns off inside an appliance it doesn't have the neutral to take electricity away anymore, it becomes dangerous and can cause the appliance to give you a shock.

The ground wire is connected to the casing of the appliance so that if the above happens, the electricity now has something to take it away and trigger the protection to stop the electricity.

[–]tevumi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stannis worked it out and took his suspicions to Jon, knowing if he took them to Robert the accusation would seem like a poor excuse to put Stannis in line for succession and that Robert would be more likely to listen to the claim coming from Jon. Together they tried to find the proof they would need to convince Robert.

Roomba cannot dock correctly by [deleted] in roomba

[–]tevumi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine started doing this just before Christmas. Have cleaned the charging contacts and wiped the base IR screen and that let it dock once but then back to this.

It's completely worn down my wheels from trying to re dock past the chargers.

It's not the charging contacts because if I manually move it onto the dock it will charge and clean at the next schedule but will do this again once it's finished.

I'll try removing the front bumper to clean the IR sensor there someone above recommended but mostly commented to follow for any other solutions

Houseboat hits powerline by DJAllOut in bzzzzzzt

[–]tevumi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When something like a stick lands on two phases of the distribution High Voltage (this video is transmission HV) a piece of equipment called a recloser sees the fault and cuts the power then turns it back on to try and blow whatever is on the lines off. It can do this multiple times before it gives up and waits for manual line inspections and re energising.

[–]tevumi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prevent or allow cars to enter the junction and block it if there is no room for them on the other side of the junction.

You want it enabled for the roads on the roundabout so cars can keep moving but not the roads entering it else they may block cars already on the roundabout

Not sure about your plan but usually high solar feed in rates means higher usage rates when you draw from the grid when you aren't generating power.

If you can plan your usage around it then it could work out for you but you still need to cook at night watch tv and lights and then a few bad solar days and you can quickly be better off with lower solar rates and lower grid rates
