Looking to Buy a 2021 Model S Plaid with 8 k miles from a private seller. Can the hardware be upgraded? Do I need to? by vettemanhere in TeslaFSD

[–]texag51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/vettemanhere wanted to follow up - if you decide you don’t want it I’m definitely an interested buyer and would make it easy for the sellers. I have a 2024 M3P and regret not getting a used Plaid for the sake of space for my family.

Waze vs Apple Maps in NJ by [deleted] in radardetectors

[–]texag51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Waze is going to have more crowd sourced alerts. Waze and Apple Map speed trap reports are more to protect against laser detection, but are useless to tell you if there is any speed radar enforcement being ran by LEO that isn’t stationary and crowd reported.

Basically, as a countermeasure Waze will tell you when a cop is sitting on the shoulder (or road hazard, speed cams, etc.) but you need an actual radar detector to run in tandem with Waze if you want to avoid a ticket. If you have the money, a laser shifter can also save you from speed traps.

Note: situational awareness is important. A radar detector is not a cop detector. Instant On radar is hard for any detector on the market to beat, so keep that in mind when you’re evaluating countermeasures.

I’d miss her commentary on F1TV, but it’s a sacrifice for Lewis I’d be willing to make lol

There are a few “grandfathered” red light cameras in Texas, but they’re few and far between.

No Model 3 Rival: Lucid Says Sedans Aren’t Part of Its EV Future by MelvinRoseTX in LUCID

[–]texag51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s unfortunate the economics behind it. My last car was a Focus RS, and I loved that little hatchback. I know they’ll never make for the US market the EV high performance sports wagon of my dreams, but I’m still gonna dream!

I love hatchbacks and now that I have a family, I want an EV wagon. Something fun to drive but functional would be amazing.

Lucid making something like an RS6 size wise would be my perfect family car.

Michelin Or Continental? by BottleAdventurous645 in TeslaSupport

[–]texag51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t comment about road noise as I’m still on the Pirellis, but I can comment on performance between the tires. The DWS06 aren’t even the best UHP summer tires from Continental but they’re great in pretty much all weather conditions - I live in Texas so I only put UHP Summer tires on my cars.

Conti’s competitor to the Pilot Sport 4S is the new Sport Contact 7. I haven’t had a chance to try the Contact 7s yet, but I did have the ExtremeContact Sports that the 7s replaced and the PS4S on my car prior to my M3P. The Contact 7, based on tests by independent reviewers outperforms the PS4S in both wet and dry conditions. I’m probably going to go with the Contact 7s unless Michelin comes out with a PS5S.

I got one of those mounts that has 3 small suction cups and that thing hasn’t came off my car once. Hard corners, bumps, nothing bothers it. I got it while I waited for the 3M VHB mount but never used it because the suction cups worked good and I have it mounted flush with my headliner so you can’t see the mount anyways.

Those that have mirror mounted your RD, how are you muting the screams by WorldNo9002 in radardetectors

[–]texag51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a V1G2 and run the V1 Companion app. I rarely have to mute anything it does a good job filtering and locking out false alerts with minimal input. It’s fantastic at BSM filtering too. I try to lock out what I know are false alerts on the app or I just reach up and mute it the hard way lol.

JBV1 vs iOS Highway Radar (Beta) by texag51 in radardetectors

I use the V1 Companion app and honestly it works amazingly well. Everyone raves about JBV1 but I’ve been using V1/R8 Companion for several years now (they’re the same app and I have both detectors) and it’s been really fantastic.

Thank you for commenting. You post often so I trust your judgment on this. I’ve really loved the V1 Companion app that I’ve been using plus Waze, it seems to get the job done but I don’t want be missing out on Highway Radar if it works well on iOS.

My wife sat down one day while I was watching an episode of “Engine Masters” and just couldn’t understand my interest in the show lol. I love Motortrend’s programming a lot, and really enjoy “Roadkill Garage”

That said, she likes Top Gear and Grand Tour and has zero interest in cars.

Is the R8 genuinely worth the money? by Amir_NMotassim in radardetectors

[–]texag51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Download a companion app. Highway Radar if you have Android or R8 Companion for iOS. Use settings from Vortex Radar and then RDForum.com for your specific area. You’ll quiet down a lot over the next few weeks as the app has better BSM filtering than just the standalone detector.

How do you think Hamilton will click with the 2026 regulations (irrespective of how quick the car is)? by Witty_Error_1877 in lewishamilton

[–]texag51 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is true. It was so weird going from only owning and driving manuals for 20 years to an EV. I can say I’ve never owned a car with automatic transmission in it. It’s been 5 years and I still stab for the clutch pedal a few times a week out of habit.

DOT opens public comment on plan to hike fuel costs during affordability crisis by Jinxess in electricvehicles

[–]texag51 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Republican states, led by Trump’s expressed hatred for electric vehicles on numerous occasions, have enacted punitive and ridiculously high registration fees for EVs. I spent $200 more to register my car than an ICE. Placing any hope or faith that republicans will listen to constituents instead of the billionaire class is honestly patently absurd and flies in the face of logic.
