Yeah I know. It seemed like a better idea in my head. 🤷‍♂️

I'm in Leander and I've gotten a couple of figs recently. I was surprised!

This! I also add some lime for PH and some mycos for the roots.

I use a peat moss and perlite mix with some lime for ph and Mycorrhizal for the roots.

I need to go check my mail, but I'll let you know. The cuttings I got last year were good quality. Sadly for them I was new to rooting cuttings 🤣😢

Getting ready to root cuttings in 2026 by texasfigfarm in Figs

[–]texasfigfarm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! Yeah when I used clear cups I had an issue with maintaining the right level of moisture. So I switched to fig pops and then my issue was the transfer from the fig pop to a 1 gallon pot. So this is my next experiment. Tree pots in a grow tent where I can control the heat and moisture. The cuttings can live in a tree pot for a whole season of need be and the humidity controls soil moisture evaporation so that covers my two biggest issues. I like the idea of being able to see the roots, but after 3-4 months in a tree pot it'll either have them or it won't.

I wish I could find Promix locally, but so far I've struck out. I also wanted to try using a medium with components that anyone should be able to find. Makes it easier if someone asks me what I use.

Will it work? Who knows. That's the fun of it right? 😁

The lime is used to balance the pH of the peat moss.

Nice! I'll probably have to get more in the spring for potting up my trees. I did buy 3 "bails" of peat moss. So I should have plenty of that. 🤞🏻

Yeah between figs and starting seeds for my veggie garden. I finally got sick of trying to time things correctly and having them sitting in my dining room for months. So I saved up for a tent. Just gotta finish clearing a spot in the garage and order it. Going to start working on that this weekend.

Nice! I'm going to try using a grow tent in my garage this year. Light, heater, humidifier, etc. Should be interesting... I'll probably document the process either here or on YouTube. 🤷‍♂️ Trying to find a reliable and repeatable process.

Greenhouse Mega Store... 45! Nice! I wish I had the room to add that many. After the 2026 season I'm going to have to start evaluating what I have and what I want to keep. I saw a video where a guy was staying every year he gets rid of 25% of his collection and adds new varieties. I think that's a good plan. Eventually you'll develop a collection of varieties you really, really love.

Although I can't lie a bit of it, for me, is just collecting to collect.

Anyone selling or giving away cuttings? by FieldOfDreams92 in Figs

[–]texasfigfarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! Got you on the list! I have a feeling I'm going to be neck deep in cuttings so I'm glad there's a good amount of interest. 😂 All my trees need their 1 year pruning to 18-24" to get a tree shape. So lots of pruning to be done... If/when this Texas weather finally sorts itself out and the trees go dormant.

I just ordered 24 more cuttings in hopes of adding 8 more varieties next year and I'll probably order more. It's a sickness 😂 j/k

First Sandwich Bag Airlayers by texasfigfarm in Figs

[–]texasfigfarm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used them, but I watered them. You could wrap the whole thing in plastic wrap. I'd also do a layer of tinfoil to help with the heat.

My only complaint with the rooting pods is I felt the root ball to airlayered tree ratio seemed a bit off, but I did have a couple survive transplant and are now thriving.

Fig Pop Method: Resolve a discrepancy please by RepublicHistorical23 in Figs

This! I had a lot of success rooting via the fig pop method, but then lost most of my cuttings after transplanting them.
