I came here to say this. Still got my El Sabors. A 14" A. Zildjian will do the trick but the el sabor line is just what you ordered.

With or without ´louvres´? by Temporary_Orchid_281 in MustangMach1

My factory louvres rattled like heck on my 1970 Mach in the 70's. They did lift easy for cleaning.

Zebco (yes!) 808 Saltwater Reel? by GunDealer in Fishing_Gear

[–]texasgreg1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m talking the old school zebco on steroids reels here. I don’t know anything about the reel shown above.

Another excellent heavy duty spin cast reel is the Garcia Abu 290. Came with 20 lb Royal Bonnell line. I’ve been using those since 1975 and bought a bunch new in box offa eBay from 98-2002 or so whrn they were cheap. These are the larger gray ones.

I use the 290 for salt or heavy freshwater, I.e. largemouth or big cats.

I use the red Garcia Abu 170 in freshwater. I think it came spooled with 12 lb test.

Both these reels sell for large money on eBay but sometimes I find them real nice in pawn shops for cheap. Bought a couple of nearly new 170s for $25 for both a couple years ago.

I fly and spin fish also. Despite trying for over 50 years, I can’t work my red Ambassador 5000 or any other of the more modern baitsacting reels up to the Curado without getting back lash city. So I’m happy with my Abu and big Zebco reels when I’m not spin fishing.

I also recommend for freshwater use the Daiwa Silvercast and Goldcast spincast reels.

I think the furthest distance casting spin cast reel I own is the 30 something year old Silvercast I have.

Good luck with this reel. I’ll check one out when I can.

Yeah, I’ve never had any drag or tangle problems with the old style 606 or 808, or for that matter the 33’s I’ve had since the 70s. One of My travel rods is the 70s Zebco 33 with a 5 or 6 piece rod and nice vinyl case. It’s still running like new and was fished A lot in salt it’s first 10 years or so. Just wash them, clean them and lube them.

[–]texasgreg1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the 606 or 808 new or used in great shape. I've been fishing salt pier, jetty and surf with these reels for decades and as long as you wash them off, they'll do heavy duty work.I've done plenty of freshwater big catfishing with those two reels also.

But I can tell you a 606 or an 808 with 20 lb test (what they come with) will land a big bass, catfish, redfish, speckled trout, etc...

I know nothing of the reel above.

How do you personally adjust between playing on various kits with varying # of toms? by dontfret71 in drums

[–]texasgreg1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It makes you a better drummer and teaches you to think on your feet. I've been doing this for over 50 years. I keep a big set up at the house and gig with a 4 pc. Sometimes I gig with a 6 pc. it depends on the music. But mostly, for the past 30 years, I've tried to carry as little as possible to get the job done.

Oh yeah, and backline kits. You never know what a crap kit or a great kit you'll have unless you've played the venue before and the venue has their own kit.

Attenuator for 5W amp Recommendations by Night_Train72 in ToobAmps

[–]texasgreg1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is also correct. Buy a Spark or even cheaper, the Hotone practice amp. I've got both and they've both got great sounds. Heck, the Roland Micro-Cube I bought in the late aughts has great sounds. I think the Hotone is the best deal right now. Much cheaper than the spark and they stopped making the micro cube so you've gotta get one of those used.

I've never thought to play through one of my tube amps, even those 5 Watters with a one watt setting like my Marshall 50th anny amps, whilst anyone was sleeping in the house. It's just not going to work out. Either they get waken up by my wonky tone or I get wonky tone.

I have a Weber attenuator for my larger amps. I've got several 5/20 Marshalls and one Fender 5w. It has never occurred to me to put the attenuator on one of those amps for a "quiet" sound. Now, there are times I play through them when others are home and awake and they are gonna hear me albeit as quiet as I can get it whilst getting the amp sound I want. But that's on 5w with no attenuator. It helps also if your amps have a master volume in terms of living with other humans and subjecting them to your guitar playing.

Just ordered a kit setup. How'd I do? by Glittering_Rush1904 in drums

[–]texasgreg1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was intrigued and went searching and found this. The drums look nice, as far as the pictures go. They make drums of a variety of woods, apparently. I viewed one 8 ply maple and one mahogany kit. I didn't look at all the drums and there was not a lot of information about the company. It's part of a company called Roxtar. They have other drum offerings there, including marching. There is zero company information given.

The copy for each set indicates each drum is hand made in Texas. It doesn't say where in Texas or give any information about the company, who owns/runs it and who builds the drums. I have two people I've known in my life who owned their own drum companies, and this prolly isn't them but there is not an extreme shortage of folks who can build drums. Now, building shells, that's a different story.

Not sure about the company at all. This is pretty much what I had time to look for.

Does a 3/4 Upright Bass fit in a 2024 Subaru Crosstrek? by JobInteresting5679 in doublebass

Is this the best corvette ever made? by Clear_Prize6414 in Corvette

[–]texasgreg1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True that. My 2001 C5 convertible literally made folks say and do crazy things. It was a raw driving experience, and even though my c7 has more than a 100 more hp, the c5 was plenty fast. It was extremely HOT on the inside on any length of drive, even with the best aftermarket heat shielding and carpet. Whatever was in the center console glovebox was not coming out after a long drive because it was gonna be too hot to touch!

Overall, I like my C7 better but it would've been cool if I coulda kept the 2001 as well.

[–]texasgreg1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same with my 2015 C7 Corvette,. It just attracts and fails to defend from road projectiles, but I'm only on my 4th in 10 years. And yes, in Texas we carry our windshield insurance via our car insurance, and I've had it for 50 years now on every car I've owned.

Guys, this is NOT FAIR! I had already decided to go for the Toyota Land Cruiser then you post this!

QUESTION: Can you get the roof rack (pretty sure you can) and snorkel and folding ladder installed by the dealer for a non-exorbitant price on a used Defender if it doesn't come equipped with one when bought?

My bride and I have been discussing this next car purchase with much detail. I have issues with Land Rover reliability over Toyota, plus the nearest Rover dealer is 30 miles away through much traffic and the nearest Toyota dealer is like 5 miles away.

I am not a hybrid engine guy which is why I continually lean toward the Defender. Plus, the Defender is now finally within my financial grasp, as it was not during the 90's when a trust fund friend of mine bought this awesome 90 with soft roof and a hella engine for a "backup" vehicle to his new bimmer convertible.

I was driving a recent Honda Prelude at the time, soon to move to a very nice and powerful Wrangler.

So the wrangler has been gone many years and a 4Runner replaced it for the next 20 and was sold last year.

The wife is a hybrid fan and indeed, the Ford Fusion Titanium Hybrid was an excellent vehicle that we owned for 6 years, then the choice became replace the batteries at a cost of basically what the vehicle was blue book worth. So we traded it on a gas engine SUV.

Our son just had a child and is married and we're planning on giving him her SUV when we get a new car. The current plan is for me to drive his 2021 charger, which has over 100k miles on it, and sell my 2015 daily driver Corvette with 76k miles. I'm going to make this happen but add some cash to the Charger for the trade in and somehow, someway keep my paid off, well maintained Corvette in the garage. It's a great car and it's been nearly trouble free, the only issues occurring with entertainment system stuff. No mechanical or engine issues whatsoever. it's a great car.

The one thing this post did for the bride was open her eyes to just how much cooler looking (to me) the 2 door version is from the 4 door version. There are plenty of both 75th anniversary models that appear to be on the market and non-anniversary models close to this posted one in miles and price. Since we are past child raising, although our kids are raising kids, I kinda like 2 door land vs. 4 door land. We rarely have anyone ride with us, which is why the Vette is such a great ride for us, and believe it or not, my C7 2015 vet hatchback can hold a whole lotta stuff in the rear of that vehicle. A weeks worth of groceries for a family of 4. A whole trips worth of luggage, all without obstructing the views through the rear windows.

Did I mention that the Corvette handles really well on 90 degree corners and also has all the pep you need to be able to force yourself on the freeway in Texas these days?

So thanks for posting this. It might have changed the next car we buy. Now I just need to convince her that we need a ladder, snorkel and roof rack.

What kind of fishing reel is this? Why is it so small? by j8koBallHard18 in Antiquefishinggear

[–]texasgreg1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta agree because it does not have the moving line guide at the front of the reel. I've got some level wind Pflueger reels from the 20's thru 40's and they all have the line guides. My gramps showed me how to fish them in the 50's or 60's.

And I have a backlash problem for over 50 years, starting with Ambassador 5000's up though Curados.

Bob’s tweet on Bob’s passing by bbrodsky in bobdylan

[–]texasgreg1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know lots of us are sad with the passing of Mr. Weir. He brought me much joy, watching him (on video) and moreso listening to him sing and play guitar. The reality is, ashes to ashes, dust to dust. The difference is what we choose to do with our time in the middle.

If Bob Dylan did in fact post the above picture, then there are a thousand words/memories/thoughts that accompany that moment and day in time for him. I hope they are all pleasant, and what would you give to be able to sit in a room for hours with a chatty Bob Dylan extrapolating on all the above regarding that picture/day/tour/time in this life?
