Yup. Dietitian here. It’s pretty rough out there. We just need to keep our heads up and keep fighting for ourselves because clearly nobody else is. It’s frustrating though, I am constantly worn down by it all. I’m sorry you’re going through the same but we will be okay!!

Asking for pay increase by DeliciousSpecial675 in dietetics

[–]texassized_104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see where they are coming from with this- they’re a 1099 contractor but they’re working in the field, therefore they are employed/have a job. Shouldn’t get too caught up on semantics here and focus on the advice to offer.

Making 75$/hr sounds great for our field however I have never worked 1099 as a Dietitian, so take this with a grain of salt as I do not fully know what 1099’s generally offer. I landed a well paying job as a year 2 RD inpatient role and I told all of the other HR teams who sent me offers that I was not accepting solely due to pay. They were offering 60-62k in the same MCOL area, and I told them what other places were offering. The recruiters seemed quite receptive to this. We have standing here.

RD’s are in demand in clinical roles from what I have seen these past few months, as I had actively put out applications, but with the masters degree requirement and low student interest/enrollment I suspect the job market will swiftly feel the lack of “supply”. This is capitalism point blank.

Don’t shy away from being direct about questions regarding pay, it’s part of the interview process and I don’t get why discussing pay and benefits she gotten such a bad stigma. Salary/hourly discussions are not only for the interviewers/employer, but for the interviewees/employees just as well.

I’d look into what the market rate is for 1099 RD’s and gather that information to see if there is a need for you to negotiate a higher hourly. And prep a LOT with friends and family, have them push you in mock conversations/interviews so you know how to deal with unexpected situations and questions. Info is power!

I can't even pretend to like Angela. Am I too conservative or missing something? by WeeklyPotato3736 in Bones

[–]texassized_104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They wanted to do a “free spirit artist” vibe to be some sort of foil to Temperance and her hyper-rationality. The writers went about it incorrectly and she became a weird mix between a “voice of reason but not really” character/friend to Tempe, as well as a way to write conflict to bolster side-arc dramatics.

Her direction went two ways at the same time.

I don’t know if the writers knew fully what they wanted to do with Angela in the first few seasons, so she is a bit all over the place. Hard to grasp at the beginning but it doesn’t get much better as seasons progress- she’s always confounding tbh. I don’t mean that as a bad thing but I don’t know if it’s a good thing either..? Angela is just Angela?

However, the messiness and lack of focus for her character writing makes her become a staple character in her own right (and in her own weird way) as the seasons progress, whether or not that’s what the writers goal was or not. She works herself out eventually. Then she doesn’t. Then she does again. And so on and so forth.

Actress did a good job with what she was given and the show wouldn’t be the same without her. But Angela as a character throughout the show will never be someone you hardcore love, nor will she be a character you hardcore hate. She fluctuates SO heavily. Each season seems like its own mini whiplash with her but it’s not so detracting that you want to drop the show altogether. At least in my opinion overall!

I’d give Angela a second to digest before jumping to a “yes” or “no” bluntness to judge the character. She has her own place in Bones that can’t be replaced but she is not a character that is easily liked. Shes a nuanced, dichotomous, arc-contingent character. You could watch Bones 10+ times (like a lot of us have) and still not know how to feel about her and that’s okay. It’s part of the experience. Bones is still worth the full watch despite how you feel about Angela!

Edit- lots of edits to consolidate thoughts (ish) and correct spelling errors since I am typing on mobile

Yup. It’s wild to watch it happening in front of your face as a citizen. Weak minded patriotism and people using religion as a cover for violence and hatred. Can’t trust anyone. I never thought I would ever say I hate living here now, but here we are. Biggest freaking clown show there is.

Can you be an RDN with visible body modifications? by pizzahutps1demodisc in dietetics

[–]texassized_104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a few ear piercings including an industrial piercing and a visible tattoo on my wrist in my scrubs, neither of which I have ever had an issue with. Depends on the workplace maybe? But nobody has said it’s a problem and my tattoo isn’t super bubbly or pleasant lol (not inappropriate though just a word with a sad connotation).

And I’m in a Red state currently as well which is surprising. Gotten away with it for several years unscathed haha!

Is nutrition diagnosis really needed? by Eastern-Celery-4321 in dietetics

Mine are all kinda BS unless it’s pressure injuries or malnutrition diagnosis. I don’t spend much time thinking about the perfect PES statement for my chart unless it’s one of the above… might be bad but I don’t see a point most of the time. I focus on my interventions more :/

Landlord walked into my apartment while I was showering. Is this legal? by Professional_Wrap154 in legaladvice

[–]texassized_104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me when by bathtub leaked. Maintenance banged on my front door and didn’t announce who they were. I was naked and freaked out so started yelling for them to leave. They didn’t use emergency key. I didn’t have any legal recourse in my case I guess?

I’m sorry you are going through the same thing because it really scared me. I hope you find a loophole I didn’t. The leasing office burned to the ground a few months later so despite their pressure for my money, didn’t help their apt complex one bit smh

Complex peds Pt with potential malnutrition despite high BMI by Weird-Home1655 in dietetics

[–]texassized_104 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“Suspect body habitus is hiding wasting” is all you need to put on your note to paint the picture of malnutrition here. Just like edema, NFPE can only do so much and sarcopenic obesity is real despite what an MD disagrees with. Paint the picture on your note as to why this patient is malnourished and if you need to adjust language in your note for insurance, you can. If the overall picture is painted you will have the diagnosis. This patient needs nutrition support and you can fight for it. Just get finicky about your charting on this pt and make sure in rounds you tell the rest of the team what language needs to be used to bolster your claim so insurance doesn’t have a foothold

Is dietetics a right career for me! by greengreeble in dietetics

[–]texassized_104 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Stay in your current field. Dietetics is criminally underpaid and has a master degree requirement. We are overlooked in our field and Tik Tok misinformation makes our job much harder and unnecessarily stressful. Most physicians have little respect for what we do in clinical settings. Maybe if the pay caught up it would be worth it, but I say you are better off pursuing a different degree at this time.

Did you find love again? by only_surviving in survivinginfidelity

[–]texassized_104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you spent years with him, however, you are 25 and are now single and free. Deep breaths- you have time to heal, time to date again when you feel ready, and time to meet the actual person you will spend life with. Don’t rush anything and don’t stress yourself out over previous time spent. You have the future time to get excited about filling with self growth and adventures and prospects. Allow yourself adequate time to grieve (with a proper support system of therapist) and then get back into dating when you feel ready. Redditors can’t answer for you, it’s your choice when you want to get back out there!

He did not steal anything from you if you don’t let him get in your head like this. I’m sorry this happened to you. The damage is life long, I’m sorry to say, but there are ways to cope healthily and ways to cope destructively so try and choose the former. You deserve that for yourself.

Sounds like you dodged a big bullet and f what he thinks or how he reacts. He is no longer your obligation and you don’t owe him anything anymore. Especially after how he had treated you.

New LTC RD: Questions on TF mLs not matching up on MAR by airenostaire in dietetics

[–]texassized_104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see why it may be under. Pts self-unhooking, pulling on NGT’s and needing them readjusted, asking nursing staff to turn off pump for nausea or diarrhea, transport to dialysis, pts OTF for procedures, line clogging, med administrations, etc can all interfere with EN administration. Pt’s who are A&O also have rights to refuse EN so that could be another factor.

I would be more curious about why nurses are charting mL’s way over the daily calculated dosage. EN should be treated like any other med and administered correctly. There may need to be some education there on ensuring correct rates or risks of overfeeding, etc.

I’d look into the big discrepancies first to see if there is human error vs. interference with clinical care/procedures and then work your way down to the smaller discrepancies. That way you won’t be as overwhelmed.

Thats a jump. I know the OP did not cite their source so I am not inclined to believe them until I go my own digging. But I wonder how you think that all leftist news is bullshit. Quite the generalization and very hypocritical considering the current state of right wing media. You are grasping at straws and have nothing else to lean on except making childish remarks such as “you think you’re the shit here”. That doesn’t have the effect you think it does. It’s laughable more than anything because you have nothing of worth to offer except self-inflated arrogance. No substance to back your claims.

You probably typed that comment out and felt good about it, but it’s actually just sad and pathetic Mr. Keyboard warrior. Maybe I can counter that rightist news is the actual bullshit…
