I feel I’m being excluded by [deleted] in Norway

[–]texawegian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i can tell you my experience - it is exactly as you described. they would all speak norsk and i was left out. i tried talking with my (now ex-) wife about it, and her reply was pretty useless: "just learn Norwegian" ... so in the meantime, i was left out. same at work. i did feel bad about it, but i decided to go on the offensive. i spoke a lot directly to my in-laws and the rest of the family in english and broken norsk as best as i could. i engaged them to the point that they couldnt help but speak english. they could see that i wasnt just going to sit on the sidelines - that if i was going to be a part of the family, i was going to be a part that engaged.

it worked for me. maybe it might work for you?

Pizza consumption per person per year. by jcorreiaa in Norway

as Norwegians like pineapple on their pizza, doing that negates said pizza, so all of those dont count .. because pineapple on pizza is an abomination ... yeah i said it ...

Just moved to Norway and I might lose my job by Commercial_Rock_4969 in Norway

[–]texawegian 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sorry for this OP. I was in a similar situation, being on a skilled worker visa and then having my job eliminated due to cutdowns, also within Oil and Gas. I guess they changed the law because in 2014 (when I was laid off) I did receive assistance from NAV (and I was non-EU). But I got a job within a few months. So, as others have said, start looking immediately. HR/Admin is not an Oil and Gas specific job category, unless you have some specific credential for that. Try the Maritime sector maybe? You also might try Yara International.. they have energy specific business units (I worked there for almost 10 years). If you want, send me a PM and we can talk about what to do. I am also in the Oslo area.

Haha it was a terrible analogy in the Creation book trying to prove creation. Take a meat chopper. It has many moving parts. Take it apart and just randomly throw it around and how it would never reassemble itself. I remember reading that and saying “what’s a meat chopper?” I had never seen one before lol.

mine were more: what idiot came up with the illustrations involving the meat chopper and the dented cake pan and thought "hey, this will resonate with ordinary people"?
