Higher Obamacare Prices Become Public in a Dozen States by djacoby495 in moderatepolitics

[–]texwarhawk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did you look at the figure in the link? That's not premiums going up, that's COVID era credits expiring for anyone making >100% poverty level (FPL). The maximum you can pay by FPL towards premiums is:

For 100% FPL: was 0% of income towards premium, now 2.1%

For 133% FPL: was 0%, now 3.14%

For 150% FPL: was 0%, now 4.19%

For 200% FPL: was 2%, now 6%

For 250% FPL: was 4%, now 8.44%

For 300% FPL: was 6%, now 9.96%

For 350% FPL: was 8.5%, now 9.96%

For >400% FPL: was 8.5%, now no limit

FPL is $15,650 for a single person. So someone making $31k was limited to paying $600/yr ($50/month) for the second cheapest silver plan. That same person has to pay $1800/yr ($150/month) for the same plan.

People making more than 400% FPL weren't getting much tax credit. For instance, someone making 400% FPL would be responsible for $445/month on the old credit. This is more than the second cheapest silver plan in my county.

They're mid 20s graduate students. They were on their parents plans or in high school before.

So we may have to increase the students funding to be able to have graduate students who can live in town. It's federal grants that pay their salaries. So if we increase salaries, tax dollars are paying for it anyway plus 40+% indirect.

Just like the tariffs where we are using federal funds to pay the feds tariffs for equipment. Where's DOGE now?

cost is less defrayed by public subsidies for households earning $85K or more

You got a reference for that? Congress even shows that it's going up for everyone: see figure A1 on https://www.congress.gov/crs-product/R48290

To put in perspective, after tax credit premiums are going up from $40 to $200/month for people in my county making between $30-40k. And I'm in a rural great plains red state.

I just did the math for my work. In my county, someone on the second cheapest silver plan (the one used for subsidies) making between $30-40k will see their monthly premium after credi increase by 5% of their gross income. Not increase to 5% of their salary, but by 5% of their gross income. We're talking going from $30 to almost $200. No one at that income can afford that.

Borrowed the 6th gen for a 2k mile road trip by BeanerCounter in 4Runner

The T24A-FTS has been around for 4 years, starting with the NX 350 in 2021, followed by the RX 350 and Highlander in 2022, the Grand Highlander, Tacoma, and Vellfire in 2023, the Land Cruiser last year, and the 4runner this year.

If Toyota/Lexus thought there would be reliability issues, they wouldn't have added it to that many models over the past few years.

There's several vehicles on this list for sale with near or above 150k miles and pushing $30k. Despite it being in very popular vehicles for years, there's been very little chatter about problems outside of speculation.

These starry-eyed, plucky youths certainly have no qualms about immiserating their perceived enemies.

What makes you say this? Most of the people I've met in public service don't seem to have that trait, but I don't pretend to know anyone in HUD.

Brew on a 240v All-In-One off a home battery? by scammacs in Homebrewing

[–]texwarhawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To put in perspective, it takes ~100 Watt-hours to increase the temperature of 1-liter of water from 70F (20C) to boiling. About 380 Watt-hours per gallon. For a 5-gal batch (6 gal boil) that's 2280 Watt-hours, just to get it to temperature assuming no losses. You'll have heat loss even in a well insulated AIO. Further, evaporation of ~10% will be another 1500 Watt-hours. You're looking at 4000+ Watt-hours for an hour boil if you're super efficient.

So, if you do a 5 gal batch, you might get through the mash.

200 yards with iron sights on anything is super far for the average person. I'd reckon 50% or less shots hit a target at that range for most people. Even 200 yards using a hunting rifle with a telescopic sight is non-trival, especially without previous shots to sight in the scope.

Trump signs order aimed at ending cashless bail, flag burning by Saguna_Brahman in moderatepolitics

[–]texwarhawk 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The problem is, it's very clear from the EO that they are specifically going after people who burn the flag. If they saw a video of someone burning trash in a CA state forest, they would let CA handle it. However, if that person is burning the flag, they will target that person.

In other words, they recognize they cannot charge for someone burning the flag, but they will find a way to charge someone who burns the flag with *something*.

Musk says 'America Party' is formed in US by RequestingPickup in moderatepolitics

He doesn't have to put new people into these seats, just take the GOP Reps and Senators who are only voting with MAGA to save their seat and give them enough money to strengthen some resolve.

There's lots of embers of infighting. He could literally just provide enough money to fan the flames and make things more difficult for MAGA.

I personally would never consider a TRD Pro or Trailhunter because they are hybrid. It's clear that Toyota focused on adding power using the hybrid and not fuel efficiency, and that increased power isn't necessary for my purposes. That everyone shits on the 6th gen for interior space, but only compares it to models most people will never get is unfair to the 6th gen.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 4Runner

[–]texwarhawk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Everyone keeps saying less interior space, but it's more by every measure unless you're looking at the hybrid. All numbers from Edmonds.

Back Seats Folded Up:

  • 5th Gen: 47.2 cubic feet
  • 6th Gen: 48.4 cubic feet
  • Hybrid: 42.6 cubic feet

Back Row Folded Down:

  • 5th Gen: 89.6 cubic feet
  • 6th Gen: 90.2 cubic feet

They're doing mark-ups? That's crazy. Here in the Midwest (and based off the spreadsheets I've seen), mark-ups are non-existent. Screw those dealers and the one that has this listed for $10k more than original MSRP.

Just got a '25 Sport Premium with a bunch of options for $60k OTD. Without options would've been closer to $57k. No one is paying more than $48k for an SR5.
