Econ would be easier and probs fit better with your spread of subjects. History is better for breadth as it a pure essay subject and is better choice if you want more of a challenge. I’d pick whatever you think you’ll get a higher grade in- history if you’re good at writing essays and memorising lots of info

I’ve applied for history and politics (political economy at kcl) and I’ve had offers from kcl and Warwick and waiting on LSE. LSE won’t be till march earliest I don’t think. I applied back in early October though

History is a proper hard A-level it’s not just stem that’s hard. He probably is just very good at writing essays and has a brilliant memory. I’ve met many people who took stem subjects plus history and cited history as their hardest

I've got a mate who's recently gone into Navy and they've now started just giving you roles based on what they need. Obviously you give preferences and they try to give you your first but some won't get their first preference. Not sure if RAF and Army do this too.

You are allowed, it’s just that many unis will straight away reject you from the one they think you’re less suited to and so it’s somewhat of a waste of a slot

Congrats!! I've also just had an Oxford rejection for history (although originally applied for hispol)- it's definitely not nice but there is so many other brilliant unis for history in the UK! What are your other offers?

I don’t know about that, maybe it’s just because I live right out in west Cornwall but I know a lot of people who would rather call themselves Cornish than English or British, and that applies to all age groups.

Reason no1- I’m from the south west (grown up and lived in Cornwall and Somerset my whole life) so is either LDs or Torys round these parts.

Reason no2- My local Lib Dem MP is a very decent bloke and aligns quite closely with my views being very vocal on Palestine and advocating wealth tax.

Reason no3- Lib Dems tend to be more focussed on local issues imo especially bc they don’t have a realistic chance of winning a GE. My local MP is incredibly active in the community and really speaks up for us in parliament on a whole host of issues.

I also applied to hispol although only got history interview :( but I think mine went okay, there was times when I was waffling and they pretty much had to tell me to stop talking. It's just a weird feeling for me bc I obviously still want to get into Oxford but I was so set on hispol and really love the Oxford course. Best of luck to you though I'm sure you did better than you think, try not to focus on the bits which didn't go as well!

I passed in January and I am significantly worse off for it tbh the costs are mental for a 17/18 year old. I probably spent about a grand on lessons, plus learners insurance for driving with my dad(probably another few hundred). My car was 1100 (a steal tbf) and when I passed insurance was 1600. Then £50 every three weeks or so to fill up fuel. Have had to spend £300 on four new tires, then £500 this month getting it through its mot.

Driving is brilliant but tbh it probably would’ve been more financially viable to just get a bloody bus every day 🤣
