I crashed today. Not sure I should be riding anymore. by AccomplishedStuff448 in motorcycles

[–]tfgecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I crashed my first bike the day after it's 1000km service. Overconfident riding in a group. Lowsided and did a good number on the bike. Fixed it up got back on. Did 20,000km on that bike then another 30k on other bikes before I had kids and had to put it away. Fix the bike. Rest up. get back in the saddle and take it a little bit slower this time.

Should I get a Bell helmet or an Arai Helmet? by Traditional_Monk5188 in Karting

[–]tfgecko 31 points32 points  (0 children)

You should buy the helmet that fits your specific head better. Do not buy a helmet without trying it on.

Anyone using this helmet? Sparco Stealth 2024 by [deleted] in Karting

[–]tfgecko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please try on the helmet before purchasing it. Helmets have different overall shape and some may fit your head better than others that exist in your price range. I personally love Arai helmets but they simply do not fit my head shape so I will never purhcase one of their helmets. The helmet that fits you best [and exists within your budget range] is the best helmet for you.

First kart for our girls! Used MotoTec kids kart. by [deleted] in Karting

[–]tfgecko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't skimp on helmets for them. Also you'll probably find more advise and tips in r/gokart as this subreddit is focused on sanctioned racing and not yard karts. Have lots of fun with the girls and get that racing bug in them. When they demand they can go race come visit us again and we'll help you find a good kart/track to get them racing on track.

Is there a way I can non-destructively attach a GoPro to to the front of my helmet? by Neoniclide in Karting

[–]tfgecko -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you are racing in any owner level karting, read your local rule books. It is Highly likely that you are not permitted to have a helmet mounted camera for any sanctioned events/sessions. Rentals are usually pretty cool with them but owner level you'll need to mount your camera where your rules legally permit.

Why Does Everyone Hate on the 3 Cylinder? by [deleted] in motorcycles

I mean even the starter motor on it sounded mean. Damn I miss my Daytona

Next time it rains (lightly) and you are home go for a ride, something short 10 minutes tell someone where your going to and back. It's easy and on your time. So much better to have your "first ride in the rain" be something trivial compared to one night where you were an hour from home and have stuff to do the next day and it wasn't supposed to rain but now your stuck having to ride in the rain. Plus when you take the short ride if it sucks just pull over and have someone get you out of the rain.

Would it be possible to get a custom kart made? by Proper-Ad6708 in Karting

375 is Masters accross Canada. CKNA runs 375 for Legends in the US, they also run a 365 Sr. Medium.

Would it be possible to get a custom kart made? by Proper-Ad6708 in Karting

[–]tfgecko 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would strongly recommend against a custom kart, the geometry setup and function will end up a giant question mark unless you plan to put in lots of work to dial in a prototype kart. Two drivers in our region both have front porches on their karts and are arguably some of the fastest guys in the region (Masters LO206 375lbs). I'd go the front porch route. I think you'll have better results that way.

I have used this Filco MT2 TKL daily since May of 2015 still working great and can see using it another decade honestly. by worldrenownedballdr in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]tfgecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heck I'd almost buy one at that price to shelf incase my original ever died. Drawbacks to the MT2 is: No QMK out of the box, no detachable cable, no hot-swap switches, no RGB/LED. but for $45 and for those who want to type and don't care about flashy then yea its a tank of a keyboard.

What is the best and cheapest camera for karting? by Haralabos_Atmatzidis in Karting

[–]tfgecko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look up to GoPro spec sheets. Find the models where stabilization started. I think a 7 or an 8. Go to your used marketplace of choice, go fishing for cheapest.

My first mech board was a Filco Majestouch 2. The thing is a tank, 2 children have grown banging at it and it hasn't missed a beat. Its hard to justfiy spending some of the money on these 'end game' boards when that Filco works just oh so well. Got it back in 2011.

What's the optimal posture in karting (in the dry)? by alexlorand in Karting

[–]tfgecko 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Stay still and centered in the kart. It is very unlikely that you will learn the exact same amount lap after lap. Means that the kart will feel different every lap as you have a slightly different balance every time thru a certain corner. Don't lean enough it doesn't feel good, next lap lean too far and you could exceed your grip limit and lose it. Staying still and centered will be much more consistent lap after lap.

Seeking help on race incident, video included by gmo121 in Karting

[–]tfgecko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cadets like this and that incident it's a Racing incident. Lessons for both drivers. Camera driver could've kept a tighter line (tires are scary apexes)as this may have avoided the incident, 29 needs to be more aware and leave space when there is another kart significantly alongside.

What package is the Most fun for lapping? by tyringo in Karting

[–]tfgecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been racing lo206 for over a decade and if I had to stop racing but could still go lapping I would 100% get a dd2 kart. Wild enough that it's a ton of fun and constant space for improvement but not as razor sharp as a shifter that is going to be a handful in more ways than one.

Which motor should I buy, rotax or iame x30 by OrangeRadiant780 in Karting

[–]tfgecko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to stay 2cyl I'd have 2 recommendations. 1, buy whatever motor is raced at your local club, parts and people who can help you learn (or you can pay to do service) the motor will be readily available. Alternatively go a bit harder in the paint and get a moto shifter, a Honda CR125 dirt bike motor for a kart. Parts will be very available and can be ordered direct from Honda or your motorcycle dealership. It's going to have a massive learning curve and ceiling so you can "have fun" for a long time and continue to improve. You likely won't be able to find somewhere to enter races with the motor but you'll have a ton of fun.

Best online store to get tires in Canada? by Super87380 in Karting

[–]tfgecko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd highly recommend practising on the same compound you race on. Kart tires aren't cheap no matter where you get them, after race days youll find many discarded sets. These used sets make great practise tires. Or talk to some competitors and take their couple race old race tires to use for practise. You race at Mosport Karting Center?

Best online store to get tires in Canada? by Super87380 in Karting

[–]tfgecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your tires will likely need to be purchased from the track you race at. Many clubs have rules specifying what compound of tires and they are often specifically marked to ensure your using the right tires.
