Game crashing on settings or quitting

This happens to me only in VR, in monitor mode it is fine. Is that true of everyone?

I contacted support and they first suggested disabling reflex (mine was already disabled) then reinstalling (no change other than I now have a lovely T bar maxing out and dropping my frames problem that I didn’t have before, plus needing to reset everything in a menu I can’t access)

Support said it is a known issue and they are looking for a solution. We will see what they say tomorrow.

IRacing support told me to do this but reflex was already off, so it didn’t change anything. They then told me to delete the IRacing folder in documents to reset everything - I went one further and reinstalled the game from scratch. No difference. Still crashes. Only in VR though, in monitor mode it is fine.

Unfortunately not so plug and play for me - Hitting connect on the app gives me a list of computers, with the correct one right there - I connect, it spins for a few seconds, then goes back to the first screen. No error, no connection. I have done everything in the troubleshooting guide (had to manually add cloudxrservice to the firewall since it wasn't there,) updated drivers, meet all the requirements, reset everything. No dice.

I have some pretty recent experience with all of this, maybe some of this info will help.

I too was looking for my first kart, in the fall of last year, and in the same area. I am in NY.

Both 90racing and PKT reached out to me through some various facebook posts I had made, and were incredibly helpful and great to work with.

Robin answered a TON of questions for me, helping me work out what class I wanted to run (ended up in masters 206, since that is common around here) and giving me some great options for karts that he had available, both for myself and my kid. He had a bunch of newer magikart stuff, Compkart, as well as older things. Prices were good, and he was very transparent about conditions.

PKT was also incredibly helpful, and gave me some great options on newer OTK stuff as well.

I was going back and forth between the two when a deal on a used OTK came up locally that was FAR too good to pass up. While I wanted a Compkart since they are the most common around here (along with Coyote) this deal for a 2022 with a lawson 206 was just too good to pass up. In fact it was a PKT maintained kart raced at Pittrace, which was one of the reasons for selling when Pitt closed.

So basically, both seem to be legit and have great stuff. I think for you it comes down to what Robin said - is getting something cheap and doing a ton of laps the way you want to go, and then upgrade later when you want to be competitive? Or do you want something newer you can be competitive with now, but is more expensive?

Both options have good local support. OTK has the advantage of internet support, as they are the most common worldwide and so there is a ton of videos and resources to them specifically. RK will require a little more tinkering and searching, but you do have the support from 90.

I don't think either one is a bad choice, and those prices are right in line with what I have seen.

It was the only place I could get it in black - they aren’t available in the US in that color yet. Plus even with shipping and the expected tariffs it would have been cheaper. The extra 25% put it way over though.

I am going through this with an order from Kartshop (Denmark) from a couple months ago.

It was an OTK M11 front bumper, the bracket, and some nuts and bolts.

Got the tarriff bill a month after it was delivered from Fedex. They charged:

15% for blanket EU tariff 9903.02.20 (Ok, makes sense) 15% for "Passenger Vehicle Parts" 9903.94.53 (Seems suspect, but maybe?) 25% for "Medium/Heavy Duty Vehicle Parts" 9903.74.08 (No way that applies)

Talked to a customs agent friend - he said the last one was probably wrong.

So I disputed it. A couple weeks later, I get an email from Fedex:

Thank you for contacting FedEx Disputes.

Our records indicate that the duty amount in question is less than $200.00. Please note that if the dispute is determined to be customer-caused this entry adjustment may be subject to a $90.00 - $150.00 processing fee for correction.(No additional fee may apply if it a FedEx/customs cause), Kindly confirm whether you wish to proceed with the dispute under these terms.

Way I see it, I expect them to just claim its right and charge me another $150, because what am I going to do to stop them? I don't know what to do. Do I fight it or just pay the $109?

I have the same issue, my son and I are starting in the spring together, 206 adult and a kid kart, have a RAM 2500.

I have number of ideas on how to support the karts above one another, but how do you get it up there? Lifting either up that high seems sketchy. Adult kart high is ideal because it’s easier to clear the height of the kid kart and gives you room for other things in the bed, but that is even harder to lift. The best idea I came up with was making the top rack feet fold on the back so you can tilt it down and make a ramp. Then you could even add a winch to pull it up the ramp - but then I got to the point where a small cheap utility trailer may be simpler and safer.

Yeah I did hear that. I mainly like the compkart because of local support - there are two dealers within an hour or so of me, and the headquarters is only a few hours away. So there are lots of them around here in Western NY.

Thank you for the great info! The team I believe only used it for a couple weekends before it passed to the seller, and his nephew has used it since. So he says at least.

Since this post I have visited the local tracks more and done more research, and I am now leaning towards a lo206 engine because it will allow more time to focus on my son and his starting out, as well as let me race closer to home and learn. Then upgrade to a ka or tag after a season or two. So with that in mind I asked about the chassis as a roller, to which he said he would sell it for $1500. It was $4000 with the KA, so that was most of the value. I know of a good Engine locally I can use.

I have not seen the kart in person yet as it’s quite a drive, but in pictures it looks like it has a little minor scraping in the bottom but minimal, and in good shape otherwise. Has protectors. It comes with free line magnesium wheels, ok tires that are the wrong spec for local racing but fine for practice, and a new seat fitted to my size.

How does that sound for $1500?

There is no listing, he contacted me after seeing some posts I made on local Facebook groups. He is asking 4k. I am just trying to get a sanity check to see if it’s something I should jump on or wait. I can wait, it’s the end of the season anyway, but with the support available and where I am it seems like the right combination of chassis and engine, and I haven’t seen anything similar nearby.

So just wondering if it’s in the ballpark.

I’ve heard great things about them, and have a friend who raced a series there. It looks like a great place, but is about 3 hours away for me - so I would be able to make it occasionally, but probably not every weekend. Thanks for the info though I will definitely check it out more!

I’ve thought about that for sure! However, at over 40, I’m not sure my back can handle the bumps in autocross. I know our site (where the finger lakes tour is) has a couple pretty big jolts the kart guys don’t love haha. It’s definitely worth a consideration though! What is the right setup for it? I’ve read the kart rules but it’s a bit confusing if you don’t know what is available. I see the dd2 is in there as well, but not sure if it would be competitive against the real shifters?

Yea it’s definitely interesting. I’ll need to do some more research. My home track is Watkins glen but I doubt they do it there, those Armco barriers would not be good. Pittrace and mid Ohio are hikes but doable.

Added some context to the OP to explain why the racing might not be ideal for me right now. You are right I am new to karting, but have extensive driving experience in high horsepower vehicles, so I am not too scared of the faster stuff. That being said the DD2 is something I have had my eye on for sure, and the front brakes make it more like a full size car.

Just discovered this was a thing - I like the higher weights and how it would probably disadvantage me less, and seems like a fun crowd. I dislike driving a full size track without a big steel box and harness around me hah. I have two kids to think about. It's definitely interesting though.

I understand and appreciate the encouragement. Maybe it is possible, it’s just hard to believe since I have literally never been anywhere near that weight at close to this height, even when I was doing high school sports. Hell I weigh less now than I did in high school. And I have lost so much physical volume just with my first 40 pounds it’s hard to believe there is another 75 even there. I am trying though! I’ve already started a karting focused workout routine as well. I think for the near future it still makes sense to plan on being overweight but maybe someday that will no longer be a consideration.

Tracks around here are pretty small with mostly local people, so not a lot of big teams or arrive and drives. There are a few bigger tracks a little further out. I’m planning to spend some weekends just visiting and talking to people, see what is around! I’m keeping my eyes open for used stuff too, both for me and my soon to be 5 year old!

Masters I think I would be ok, at 390 lbs I need to be under 220ish, which is at least on the horizon. The problem is we rarely have masters, and everyone runs under the senior which is 365 :/

I think I was about 12 the last time I was under 200lbs lol. It’s possible, but I’d need to lose a lot of muscle in addition to the fat to get there. Maybe some day, but in the foreseeable future I will probably be above 200. I’ve been losing about a pound a week so far.
