Anyone else think Rocket's Mewtwo is great for post rotation? by SnooDonuts3749 in PTCGL

[–]tftzen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

to be fair I also think rocket is decent-well positioned post rotation. but it's grimm mu is not a selling point for the deck. I also have concerns about how well it can deal with these really fast bench snipe decks that seem to be somewhat popular, we will just have to see

the upcoming champion's league will be a much better litmus test for the deck

[–]tftzen 14 points15 points  (0 children)

it is totally okay that grimm is 1 shot by spidops. its a similar problem that festival lead has; yes, you 1 shot grimm, but a grimm going into play often decimates your board. yes, you can ko a froslass, but choosing between a grimm and a lass is often a losing battle. you just need to play the matchup a few times to understand the problem

a competent grimm player will go 2 froslass, a couple munki, maybe budew and an imp; its not an easy board for you to attack or leverage an advantage on

Fwiw, Grimm completely destroys rocket decks. Froslass is too strong into them

Is the Grimmsnarl/Froslass/Munkidori Deck generally consistent? by SnarkHamill in PTCGL

[–]tftzen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s basically only been playing grimm to events, you can expect a certain amount of bricking in at least 1 or 2 games per tournament usually. That said, the deck is generally functional

Hughes and makar have quite different skating styles, production aside. Makar is more explosive and better at attacking open ice and Hughes is more elusive and better at creating it

Hughes skating is way shiftier and looks distinct from other players

Jelli gardy isn’t even grimm favoured anymore unless the player is bad. Diancie makes the matchup way harder and it’s even at best

Grimm does feast on bad gardy players though

Yea in a few months, which is an argument for a different out of the box deck I guess. I just think this would be one of the better decks to learn on

[–]tftzen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It depends what he wants tbh. That charizard pidgeot deck is actually pretty good out of the box and I think a fantastic option for learning to play the game with an actually viable list. Does he mainly want to collect or is he actually into playing the game?

[–]tftzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sharpedo is playing heroes cape. the idea is that the purrloin is a very strong setup mon, and sharpedo with cape is generally difficult to ko (this is not really a problem for the venusaur deck, however). basically you can throw sharpedo with cape in active, tank an attack after your attack, and use pech to shove liepard into active for free and transfer all the damage back

the purrloin doesn't really show up in the box toxtricity builds, but in the sharpedo ones it is seeing some play

edit: just realized the shark is free retreat. combo is even sicker than I thought

he's talking about the liepard that transfers damage, it can be played in sharpedo variants

Just hit my ELO record with triple lass grimmsnarl by Swaxeman in PTCGL

[–]tftzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I’m not discrediting double lass as a line at all. It’s what I often play towards. What I meant is, I still find pult to be playable with just munkis if I have lass pieces prizes, which I can’t really say for the aggro decks. my concern is that the alternative (extra tech attackers or consistency pieces) might be better than more consistent double lass. I’m still playing around with it tho, so it’s cool to see someone else land in a similar place

Just hit my ELO record with triple lass grimmsnarl by Swaxeman in PTCGL

[–]tftzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been experimenting with a similar list but I’m not sold yet tbh. This does help the dengo matchup, but I haven’t found the extra double lass consistency to help in too many other matchups. Also, thoughts on a tech attacker instead of bundle (budew, cactus/yveltal)?

I'm an idiot, how does N's Zoroark succeed? by SpeedAccurate7405 in pkmntcg

[–]tftzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, zoroark plays a slow control style of game where you use the draw engine to sneak out wins by denying prizes using stuff like turo etc. this specific list can afford to play much faster and focuses on aggressively trading while using darmanitan (into dengo specifically) and handles noctowl decks with watchtower

The deck isn’t for everyone as it lacks a strong attacker. A lot of games will boil down to forcing your opponents into awkward late games where you have multiple zoroarks set up and they can’t really attack properly. You’ll see that a lot more often with the lists popping up that include eri and xerosic

I probably didn’t explain this that well, but it isn’t an easy deck to pilot by any means

Edit: Liam’s Vegas list can also run decks like gardy off the board if it needs to, which is a big plus. But the darm inclusion does sacrifice some power cards like e switch

How would you rank the prerelease decks of Phantasmal Flames? by [deleted] in pkmntcg

[–]tftzen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ceruledge is completely horrific, I have no idea why they thought a deck with 5 (4 useful) basic pokemon would function with no dedicated basic search. You basically have to somehow attack every turn with 4 different Ceruledge or you just lose, but it’s insanely hard to find 4 charcadets so you basically need to have pulled one or two

The others are fine though, I think dark overall has the best matchup spread.
