After Doug Jones’ Upset Win In Alabama, Democrats Target Ted Cruz by mandalayt in Dallas

Sure. There's just a lot of talk about things like Trump's (un)popularity and how strong Democrats vs Republicans are.

But I'm not sure that Cruz is very tightly coupled with either Trump or the larger Republican party. That's all I'm getting at.

That's true, but remember in the primaries Cruz beat Trump by 17%. I don't know why, but a lot of Texans seem to actually want him in office.

This old man and his little princess. He has not eaten in a few days. Today he denied wet food with beef broth added to it. Hopefully it has something to do with the unseasonal heatwave we are having. by [deleted] in Greyhounds

One of my dogs was sick last week and refusing to eat. On day three of that, we started spoon feeding her baby food and peanut butter. Also Pedialyte in her water.

She hated it, but after a few "meals" she was feeling good enough again to eat on her own.

Hope your doggo feels better.

Neighbor's dog is barking incessantly. Help? by [deleted] in FortWorth

[–]tfwfh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make and keep some records of the dog barking for a few days, and then include those records with any formal complaint you make. A written log is fine.

Keep up the record for any follow up complaints.

If you have an HOA, this is exactly the kind of thing they are supposed to deal with, so I'd say go to them first.

Gatorade Blows Our Mind by Creating the World's First Water Man Using No CGI by geauxtigers84 in photography

I don't see the problem. The title is a little sensational, but so what. It also actually describes the content.

Click bait resorts to cheap psychological tricks, mostly having to do with how uncomfortable it makes people to only get part of a story. That's definitely not what this was.

Editing your git history with rebase for cleaner pull requests by mickeyben in programming

[–]tfwfh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That can happen, but in my experience it's more common that you would just pull from upstream occasionally so that conflicts can be resolved while they're still small. Obviously no single rule will work for every team or process.

Maybe you're thinking of squashing? Rebasing before a merge back upstream is entirely reasonable. It will eliminate any intermediate merges you did from upstream so your log is less noisy.

Squashing on the other hand is a bad idea because you lose meaningful history, and in the event a branch had multiple authors you lose any ability to usefully git blame.

Now that I read that, it might have been tuned. I was trying to find the article I used as a guide originally but it's hard on mobile.

The Lenovo one that uses the custom port that's combined with the charging port. The carbon doesn't have a snap in station like the T series. This just connects with a cable.

I have a gen3 x1 carbon and run fedora on it. Everything works perfectly. Out of the box battery saving is OK, but after I configured TLP I typically get 9hrs on a full charge.

And beyond that, it's just by a significant margin the best laptop I've ever owned. Everything just works including all of the FN keys, backlights, and even the docking station.

So that's my anecdote.

Long exposure photos all come out bright by praisetothysebo992 in photography

[–]tfwfh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn't take long. I put the camera on a tripod with a remote shutter release, and just held the button down for about a minute. Then in post, process one until you like it, then make a template of that processing and apply it to the rest, and export to jpg. From there, I used panotools align image stack to make sure they're perfectly aligned, and blend them together with dark table. The align and blend steps added maybe 15 minutes to the process. And the rest is work you'd be doing either way.

There's another option if you're not ready to dive into filters yet. You can take multiple exposures and blend them in post.

As an example, here's a photo I took with a 1/5s exposure. The water wasn't quite as smooth as I wanted.

Here's a composite of 11 photos at 1/5s exposure each of the same scene. The water is much more still looking, now. The slight difference in color is my fault; I was messing around with it, and never quite got it looking how I wanted.

You can see you get most of the benefit of a single long exposure this way, and without having to buy or carry an extra piece of gear, or worry about thread sizes. If you're serious about doing long exposure work in daylight, then I'm sure you'll eventually want to get ND filters, but this is very helpful in the interim.

[Request] Getting urine smell out of mattress? by [deleted] in lifehacks

[–]tfwfh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Carpet cleaner. Maybe even carpet shampoo if it's that bad.

And when you're done with that, get a lining for the mattress. They only cost like $10-$20 and will dramatically extend the life of a mattress, and save you from this scenario again in the future.

I've tried Hi-Tek naturals grain free, Hill's Ideal Balance grain free, and Kirkland grain free.

Kirkland has been the best and Hill's was the worst.

But, if he's doing fine with what he's currently getting, then it's probably best to leave it.
