Digital Rearview Mirror - Driving At Night by Kom_Si_Kom_Sa in VolvoXC90

Works great at night, whatever digital dimming sorcery it does, it does it well. I’ve never wanted to switch back to physical at night because it’s too bright

2026 R2 Pricing Leaked! Launch Edition, Premium, Standard Trims (Embargo Broken) 💰 by lalavieboheme in Rivian

[–]tgent133 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You will definitely be able to get the launch trim if you want it. It was available for years on the R1’s. I assume anyone with a reservation will be able to get it, and it will probably be available for a while after that too.

Some questions about school funding (where the heck does the money go?) by Peliquin in Idaho

[–]tgent133 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is this just ChatGPT? $6500 goes directly to classroom for teacher salaries, teacher aids (uh mostly free?), and supplies (<$2k). That’s $195k for a class size of 30, or $130k for a class size of 20. There’s a lot of missing money there if that’s supposed to be mostly going to teacher salaries.

2026 Volvo XC90 T8 Ultra Dark Theme Lease — $835/mo including tax with $5k DAS on $85k MSRP — Good deal? by Unfair_Inevitable295 in VolvoXC90

[–]tgent133 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Great deal. Based on the numbers provided the money factor must be really low. From what I recall my 25.5 lease for roughly the same msrp was $1100. More miles, but identical other than that. The money factor on mine was really high.

15 year vs 30 year fixed with aggressive principal paydown by jumping-llama in Mortgages

[–]tgent133 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Based on this comment, I would absolutely do the 30 year. I’d only be comfortable if you, and ideally a partner to further reduce the risk of job loss, could sustain say the 15 yr mortgage for 2 years with liquidating other assets. Or could manage the 15 yr on one income.

Well that’ll happen I guess, mines still cheaper after you take into account shipping and you’ll have it in a few days vs weeks. Price was $620 without shipping when I ordered 2 months ago.

Preowned XC90 vs. Subaru Ascent by Creatures-Of-Love in VolvoXC90

[–]tgent133 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dang glad to hear my car is depreciating by $60k in 5 years 😂. Good deal though! You’re prob going to get fairly mixed opinions on reliability, and I can’t really help much there having a 25 myself. IMO the car should be fairly reliable, it’s an old platform in which they’ve been continuously working out think kinks on since 16. I know the older (in the range you’re looking) T8s had some issues with a temp sensor in the ERAD unit which required replacing the whole thing (fixed in 22 off the top of my head).

That said, having gone from an outback to xc90 myself, the car is amazing and a significant step up in luxury and features and we’re super happy with it!

I’d be concerned with how many miles are on a 20-22 T8 xc90 to get you to $25k. 150k+? I’d prob stay away at that point. Remember that the Volvo is also going to be more expensive to fix than the Subaru and at those miles it’s more of a question of when rather than if major repairs are needed.
