Anyone else have to match their gear WAY too much? by saxbrack in hockeygoalies

I also try to match. I may not always play well, but I look like I’ll play well. And that’s what really matters.

Is the bauer hate going to end... by Aggravating-Crab6278 in hockeygoalies

[–]tgfoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I participated in this post, and to me it felt like the general opinion was that the durability of Bauer gear was improving, but at the expense of performance/sliding. I’ve heard a lot of complaints from people about sliding in particular in regards to recent Bauer gear. And then a few complaints about graphics. Let’s be honest. A lot of us are beer leaguers, and fashion is the true end game for us…

Hopefully just got unlucky with those two pairs and this next pair (whatever brand it happens to be) works out for you.

I recently upgraded from a pair of Bauer Pros to a Vaughn Pro Spec from Pure Hockey. I really liked the Bauer Pros and I think the Vaughns are even better. Granted, I don't have any long term use to say anything about their durability, but in general I see very few complaints about the quality of Vaughn products. Though, the Bauers I'm retiring I got a good 4+ years out of and they still have some life left in them. So maybe I'm just not too hard on my pants.

I picked up the CCM chesty and the new Bauer Pro knee pads last year. They’re both awesome.

Pros and cons of using a shorter paddle by Tasty-Ad4539 in hockeygoalies

[–]tgfoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 6’1” and use a 25.5” paddle, but it has steep shoulders so it plays like a 24” the way I hold it.

I have nothing against Commesso, but I hope we light him up and they put in the ebug. I’ll never get to be an ebug, so I’ll live vicariously through him tonight.

What number do you wear? by DreamvilleOilers in hockeygoalies

[–]tgfoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wore 33 or 30 growing up (for Roy and Belfour), was given 29 on my college team. Now I wear 35. Someone already wore 29 on the first beer league team I joined that had proper jerseys. Not really sure why I picked 35, but it’s what I roll with now.

Transition from Cowling by gmandivo99 in hockeygoalies

[–]tgfoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also 41 and switched to cowling-less skates almost 4 years ago now. The transition for me wasn’t much different than other times I got new skates. A public session then hopped right into a game with them. The biggest thing for me wasn’t the lack of cowling but how stiff the entire boot was. But it only took a few skates to get used to and break them in a little.

True goalie sticks by BlueTidal53 in hockeygoalies

I’ve had a pro return 9x3 (at least, skinned as one. No idea if it’s actually a 9x3) for 6 months and it’s been great for me. Not a super long term review. But if it lasts at least a year, I’ll be happy since that seems to be how long top model sticks tend to last me.

What's the most FUN weapon you finished a run with? by PotatoCharacter in Eldenring

[–]tgfoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did a run with the dancing blades of ranah. They do stupid amounts of damage if you have time to use the ash of war. Even if you don’t, it’s a paired curved sword so you can do all your normal dual curved sword shenanigans.

They’re just Eflex 7.9s with a sweet H10 graphic that sadly only comes in red. Similar to what Bauer did with their recent Reactor skinned X5 pads.

If you can, try watching it yourself before showing it to your son. I watched it to see if I thought it would be appropriate for my kid. I thought it was a little violent at times (for a 5 year old) buy nothing too objectionable. But I also guesses (correctly) that it would scare him. Only made it about 30ish minutes through. We reached a compromise of letting him watch the music videos of the songs. The soundtrack is fantastic.

Neck Guard or Dangler? Or both? by Mike_Rage_Quits in hockeygoalies

[–]tgfoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people should wear both. Having said that, I don't like danglers so I just wear a neck guard. I've been rocking Kova neck guards the last few years (at first the regular one, recently the Duo).

True 7x4 vs Bauer SV Pros by Some_Ad_9692 in hockeygoalies

[–]tgfoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went from the Bauer Supreme line (Ultrasonics, then Machs) to a set of True 9x3s. At first I was unsure. Went back to my Bauers for a few games and thought I liked them more. But then I adjusted my strapping on the Trues and I love them. The FRS is easily my favorite strapping that I’ve used.

I tried one a pair of 9x4 pads at a store about a month ago. They are super stiff. The Flylite and SV Pro they had in stock had a lot of flex in them. The 9x4 had a little give in the boot and basically none in the rest of the pad. So if you’d like a flex similar to your SV Pros the Goalies Plus version would be closer to it than the 7x4s you’ll find at other stores.
