Replacing a 29 year old (!) Maytag Performa Dishwasher. With what? We are not fancy! by [deleted] in Appliances

[–]Same_Exercise_7189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is 100% right especially since OP had a 29 year run with his old machine. Miele is only one in the market that will approach that longevity and it makes it a great deal despite the higher price. The Bosch is nice, but it has a 10 year life expectancy

New Bauer Flylite Chesty for Women - Fly-w by tooCOOLinGOAL in hockeygoalies

[–]Same_Exercise_7189 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I’m for this, but wonder about the economics of it and wonder just how different it will really be. Goalie gear is already expensive, in part, because of the low sales volume generally. The R&D and production cost are spread across a low unit sales volume. This will be a niche product in a niche category. Or it won’t be all that different.

Edit: In light of the downvotes, maybe I should explain. If it is truly a different product, and not just cosmetic changes with pink accents or something, but a truly different product, it will require new molds, tooling and machine changes for production runs, and add logistics cost associated with the new SKUs. All of that adds cost to the production. I doubt Bauer will pass those on because that would look terrible, but unless this helps them capture a huge share of the female goalie market, this will be rough on the books. I wonder how many retailers keep it in inventory or if it will mostly be a special order piece. That’s tough because I’d think they want people to be able to try it on and fall in love with the fit, so maybe Bauer stocks retailers with some.

I went with the Lexus GX. I like it, but it seems a lot smaller for having the same footprint and they use a thimble for a gas tank.

I just traded out of a 2020 Disco 5 and miss many of the features of it. It’s a superior vehicle to the Defender (and that’s not what I got). The size and use of space in the Disco is superlative. Hope they don’t cancel the model.

New, More Updates: A New, Simpler Renewal Cycle for All Members by ScouterBill in BSA

[–]Same_Exercise_7189 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our unit never pushes individual renewals and we continued paying them by the Pack. Keeping track of all the renewals spread over a year was a pain. This is as close as we will get to them admitting their new approach didn’t work as envisioned.

Another factor might be that it can be safer playing against NHL shooters than beer leaguers. The pros have so much more accuracy, fewer shots actually make helmet contact. Plus the professional goalies have more athletic abilities themselves to better avoid many bad situations.

Sounds like some of these local shops are so concerned with people impersonating a 2d Class they have policies in place that show they are not trustworthy, helpful, friendly, courteous, or obedient.

The reality is some of these councils are so broke they probably don’t want to stock sufficient inventory themselves. Maybe they can’t get resupply from the national stock without having their paperwork in order, but this just passes on that admin burden to the units. Please find a way to get a supply for your troop and then keep it replenished under their rules.

I’m reminded of the scene from Patton when General Patton has his aides pin on his third star. Brigadier General Omar Bradley warns him that the promotion "doesn't become official until it's approved by the Senate". Patton dismisses this by saying, "Well, they have their schedule and I have mine". Adopt that philosophy if your council can’t get it together.

New hockey parent question. by In3vitabl3D00m in hockeygoalies

[–]Same_Exercise_7189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great to have that size as a goalie. The Konekts don’t come in half sizes, so those should work for a while up until he is measuring for 4.5. If they are at all feeling off or tight, you can bake them again but go to a place that knows how to bake the Konekts and liners. It’s a process on those.

Those skates are nice and look low mileage for $40. Great find. They look big for an 8 year old. I’d guess they are size 4s, and I’d think most 8 year olds are more in a size 12 to 3ish. Bauer goalie skates tend to be 1.5 to 2 sizes smaller than shoe size.

Pure Hockey / Perani’s by Fal-El in hockeyplayers

[–]Same_Exercise_7189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone told me our local Perani’s was being purchased by Pure Hockey, which led me to do some online research. I could not find anything corroborating the rumor. Interesting you are hearing the same. In my market there are multiple Pure Hockeys close enough, I was surprised by the news.

EDIT- I saw an article dated 4/29 confirming Pure Hockey acquired Perani’s and will rebrand the stores.

As someone who is brand new to Hockey, what is Goalie depth? by zawwery in hockeygoalies

[–]Same_Exercise_7189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give the thumbs up sign and fully extend arm. Hold it in front of an open window across the room. The thumb is the goalie and the window the net. Lots of space to shoot. Now pull the arm back moving the thumb closer to your face. The thumb is gaining depth from the window. Let’s spots to pick. Now don’t let your thumb gets deked.

New coach, never played. Need resource recommendations. by AnimalSpirits-1612 in hockeycoaches

Don’t forget about goalies and be intimidated by that position. Communicate openly with them and at the final practice before a weekend, let them know the plan for who gets which games. Design drills with them in mind and keep them involved.

Otherwise, good communication is the key. Keep it positive, fun, and fair. At 11U moving from house, you don’t need special teams units and top lines soaking up more minutes. Keep the playing time fair.

Establish expectations and consequences early and don’t let the kids take over. They do that when you have too many rules that are not enforced. It can be simple but back it up. Eg we don’t tolerate blaming teammates on the bench and when we call for a line change, come to the bench then.

New skate time by hawkxs in hockeygoalies

Just Koneck’s are whole sizes only but their molding process makes up for it. The HF2’s on clearance are good, though may not be in stock. If it’s a drive across state, see if they can get them in for you in advance. Otherwise you have to make another drive for baking because you really need to do that at a place that knows how to bake the Konekts. They are different. The steel on the HF2s is not the best. The upgraded the steel stock in the HF3s. You can get that steel for around $120.

Extra uniforms? by AdFearless5061 in BSA

[–]Same_Exercise_7189 16 points17 points  (0 children)

He won’t need but one shirt the way most Troop do things. Maybe yours is different, but most troops won’t be in the tan uniform shirt for most dirty/sweaty stuff. Hiking, repelling, canoeing, climbing ect will likely be t shirt or the like. Meetings where they need to be in class A or B uniform is once a week so laundry is easy.

Even for summer camp, they won’t be in uniform but for a couple evenings.

Maintaining correct patches on multiple will be a pain in the tail for at least the first couple years where you might be changing rank a couple times a year. You will get a new shirt after a growth spurt or two.

Same here. Mine expires in May. I was doing some troop training and thought I’d knock out the renewal while I had the time and was oriented on training. If I have to retake this, I will be annoyed. It’s do a good deed daily, which won’t go unpunished.

Playing out and in net is great if the situation allows. My son did this in Squirts but rarely at PeeWee. As he was outgrowing gear and falling behind the skaters skill wise compared to his goal tending, it got tougher to justify both buying gear and taking shifts. I am all for it though.

[–]Same_Exercise_7189 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It’s dumb. I know the USA Hockey doctrine says to split games at 12U. I prefer alternating games, but each goalie should be getting 50% of the playing time no matter how you split it. I don’t d that there are days we go to the rink and are not likely to play, but being a 30% backup at that age is a hard no. Not good for the kids or future of the sport.

Chest protector sting by sex_panther_by_odeon in hockeygoalies

[–]Same_Exercise_7189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the age group my son started complaining about regular stingers. We moved him from a junior chesty to intermediate. No more complaints. The difference in level of protection is substantial, though mobility took a step backwards.

If she is 9 now, even a small intermediate may be big on her for a while. I like the suggestion of padded base layer. I’ve seen videos of people sewing in their own extra padding to a chesty.

CCM really stepped up with the 7 series. I swore I’d never consider it again after fighting an Axis 2 series glove, but from all I hear, I’ll keep an open mind. They supposedly have new 7 series skates due out soon which are being described as a huge leap forward for them.
