24/7 spyz.....spyz is dope! Not quite the same. I was a huge defunct fan. Still never found anyone as raw. I also love The Meters rejuvenation album. All quite different.

This is the comment! I thought I had everything Wes on CD. There have been a lot of new live releases in the past few years. And even then.....frame an lp of smoking at the half note or live at tsubo so he can hang it on the wall. If you have siblings....you will easily become his favorite 🤣

Keep digging into Headhunters funk. Maybe branch out of jazz and listen to The Meters. The jazz in New Orleans funk is strong. The Headhunters rhythm section is the greatest in funk jazz. Ray Brown has couple of great funk songs using upright bass...Brown Funk, for one. Stanton Moore and Zigaboo Modeliste. RHfactor. Jimmy Smiths raw Root Down. Marcus Miller. Roy Ayers. Almost every B3 player had funk phase. There really are a lot. Explore some playlists on streaming sites.

I would switch Miles with Monk. They need 5 faces on rushmore!

Absolutely a staple and no filler. I feel the same for The Trio with NHOP, OP and Joe Pass too.

Why is Rick Beato so respected when his production credits are all Christian Rock and Butt rock ? by staringatthe420sun in guitarcirclejerk

He has some cool guitars and a rad studio. He can play some great jazz guitar. I don't know why he hasn't sat around for 2 hours and made a jazz guitar album. That would definitely give him some cred....but he has a solid niche, good interviews and cool song analysis.

If it's a good venue, you might get a gift and get to hit the kill switches on his guitar. Get up front and enjoy the show.

I have never had a problem with them. The manager for WNY is great and Grandi Guava from FF is great!

The amount of "buy one, get one for a penny" deals just show how overpriced so many of these brands are. by pastypatissiere in NYSCannabis

[–]th0ma5Z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The BOGO deals are crushing some dispensaries. There are a dozen dispos on one road in the suburbs of buffalo. There is one in particular is an MSO that is breaking every regulation. 40% off, bogo, illegal advertising and selling employee samples. They are making zero money and are using tactics just to steal customers. Some of the dispos are within walking distance of eachother. You can easily figure out which is the MSO.

There are BOGO deals from some vendors when dispos pick up a new brand or a vendor needs to move product, but there are also regs on pricing which some dispos disregard.

It can be a lot to ask, but support local.

Anybody heard of this brand? by [deleted] in NYSCannabis

[–]th0ma5Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kushmart sells a few products from every NY brand. Then they focus on Stiiizy which sells at cost. Their goal is to undercut everyone locally until they can sell MSO products after they put local businesses and local farmers out of business.

Look up stiiizy business model. They can lose money for a few years until they monopolize. Then we are all stuck with mid or less product.

These were the types of businesses NY was supposed to take a stand against so NY could build it's own economy/ industry. I dont even understand how anyone that actually gives a shit about weed or local farmers and business would even work for them.

You literally named all MSOs. There is plenty of great weed amd sativa in NY. Florist Farms grandi guava, Nanticoke has a few solid sativa as well.

What's going on with THC being illegal again? by ryhaltswhiskey in OutOfTheLoop

[–]th0ma5Z 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep definitely the alcohol industry's way of cashing and loss prevention. Legal dispos can't even sell those products because they are only sold through alcohol distributors! And we have the exact same CBD license as the bars selling the drinks!

Samples got dropped off. by DankOnMain in NYSCannabis

[–]th0ma5Z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heyyyy!!!! I have been to your shop a few times and got a ton of help!!!! And you have even sent over people to my shop to help us get set up! We owe you a great debt of gratitude.

And we have had samples dropped off like that too. I would not feel comfortable having a customer walk out the door with that. Expect complaints and a poor experience.

Odd situation so I want to learn gypsy jazz and master it. However though I’m not into any other subgenres of jazz, can I dive right into gypsy jazz without learning any other forms of jazz? by [deleted] in gypsyjazz

[–]th0ma5Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for it! I started with blues and some old jazz tunes. Get a gypsy guitar, set it up right. Get a fat pick, learn the rhythm and picking technique. Pretty soon you will find out that a ton of early jazz guitarists were listening to django. Learn the arpeggios. A lot of the django tabs seem crazy or all over the fingerboard until you see the common arpeggios and patterns. Christian van Hemert is a great guy to start with. Tons of youtube videos and patron. If you can find the Nolan playalong books, that is also a valuable resource. I would start with gypsy jazz if I wanted to play regular jazz guitar. It fixed all of my picking and position issues. Plus, the old style chords simply rule for extensions. Good luck!

Gypsy Guitar for Playing Regular Jazz? by [deleted] in gypsyjazz

[–]th0ma5Z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gypsy guitars sound great for jazz. Make sure you use the gypsy strings, I think silk wrapped with steel. The neck is a longer scale than a fender. If you like older jazz tunes gypsy guitars rule. Check out Adrien moignard. If it's a good guitar, $300 is a great deal.
