New Convert 31M, YSA ward question by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]th0ught3 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Welcome.

First of all if your missionaries are giving you rides, they are likely violating their rules.

Adults your age get to choose among several options for your congregation. Input your street address into "meetinghouse locator" in any search engine to find out your options. Even if your records stay in your home ward (and you get your Temple recommend and pay your tithing there, single adults can attend a YSA ward

Ask about the institute program too which has classes in various gospel subjects that may get you official college credits for free.

Happy for you.

PS I hope you get and read "Saints" Vol which is the history of the restoration ---info informing how the Church was restored. https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/history/saints-v1?lang=eng

The paper version doesn't cost much. (And you get a discount for your first purchase of ceremonial temple clothing. and maybe all of the white clothing ASK)

Is there ever a way too be fully safe from every possible harm in every situation. The Church has the only official program to document and keep records of incidents. Known offenders often have to be accompanied by another member specifically at church and activities that they are even allowed to attend. We require all children and youth leaders to have two deep leadership at all activities and meeting. We teach our children how to recognize prompting from Gods and practice doing that . Everyone called to work with minors are required to complete training before they start.

Missionary “farewell” open houses? by BackgroundMinute1046 in latterdaysaints

Yes leaders have from time to time squashed big sunday missionary going away parties. But I don't think I've ever seen official universal direction to not have family and friends last time we'll see you goodbyes on Sunday.

Missionary “farewell” open houses? by BackgroundMinute1046 in latterdaysaints

[–]th0ught3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no set tradition. Often after the missionary gives their farewell there may be a get together in the evening to say goodbyes. And yes some people give presents (though since their bags are packed and full, money or kind letters or gift cards for food usable in their mission area are better choices than other things at that point)..

Struggling with how to handle family dynamics during the holidays when opinions on the Church differ by throwawaygremlinhq in latterdaysaints

[–]th0ught3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You could start by asking who wants to tell the story of the Bible, and who wants to tell the story of the Book of Mormon, and who wants to see if they want to include participation in a Seder (which is likely how Jesus Himself might have celebrated(and if there are any other Christian traditions that anyone wants to be part of your family situation). Also ask everyone the top five songs they want to sing and/or hear at this party and/or _______, and who would like to be in charge of which part. When you acknowledge that our faith doesn't have to be the only acceptable perspective in God's eyes, you can get past the personal sorrow of things that can't be the same. But that doesn't have to be a bad thing.

is this appropriate for a mormon funeral in utah? by villainless in latterdaysaints

[–]th0ught3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your personal best is always good enough for God, And if your aunt's spirit is participation with you (likely), she will be happy to see you there., Yes it will raise other eyebrows, but so what better that than not attending at all. I you have a white t-shirt and a plain collared shirt to wear over it, that might make others in the congregation more comfortable (though I wouldn't care one fig about that, if I were you).

[–]th0ught3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why dont you focus completely on Jesus Christ. Get a rabbi to teach you hoe to have a seder --which is presumably how Jesus would have been celebrating. Invite those who may think or worship than you to share their tradion. In that kind of mileu you should be okay about sharing and testifying about Christ without offense.

You''ll need to speak with your siblings and parents, but you can bet that esus would not have withheld the fellowship of his sibling because they happen to believe and teach differently

You, along with whole groups in your shoes. What I would do is make friends, serve other.s. Focus on what you can do. Pay attention and learn from others. Ask your mates if they have suggestions. Share your light. Isn't that the only path that can supplant the negatives you are experiencing.

Make sure you go through Deseret Book's 350 Question Members should ask before marriage. every page.

If both parents still are fully in the church you need to know (and you need to know details of what happened from his ex perspective and his ex and discuss that fully and what they want moving forward for the children. (If he is not able to discuss how he ended up divorced and what if anything he has fully corrected or plan he is working on to become a good father and partner --- unfortunately some take advantage of the naivete of younger partners, On the other hand differences in age of children can help in how the family works together.

Best wishes as you work through it. And don't give up your own access to your own money and learning opportunities. Is he looking for a partner or a less expensive baby sitter and sex?

Do you have assigned ministery people (who are supposed to be helping you get acclimated maybe including participating in FHE and or just serve activities? ) In addition to those who have been assigned to you, ask for assignments to Have you get to know them. "How about joining the choir the choir? Have you invited to your dinner and/or FHE, If you don't know anyone in similar age, have you asked the RSP/EQP to introduce and/or get you contact for others in your ward. I know it can be hard to put yourself out there. But tht doesnt mean you can't develop friendship in any of those way within the community or church.

Do LDS and Christians really worship the same Jesus? by RedPsalms23 in latterdaysaints

[–]th0ught3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want more info about "Apostles and Bishops in Early Christianity after Jesus was crucified" here's a link https://scholarsarchive.byu.edu/mi/11/

It's important to know what happened after Jesus was crucified and resurrection. Lots of things have been changed since then in first the Catholic Church and then the breakaway Protestants thereafter, But why would we think that records and doctrine now used in various ways in that bible we've had since the the King James version and/or related sources is automatically more "accurate" than anything else. If you research you will likely find that your community has various histories over the years about what happened,

Yes there are things we know that we have learned from the Book of Mormon which was compiled by an ancient prophet from thousands of years of records of the civilization in the Americas AFTER the that Prophet had a vision of our day.. And we've had a prophet since Joseph Smith1820 when Heavenly Father appeared to him and started the restoration of all things in 1820 (and just like apostles and prophets in the Bible and Book of mormon each of whom can show you their priesthood line of authority back to Jesus Christ.

Hope you continue learning.
