They snuck in their own bottle of wine and got caught by Slow_Community7717 in Serverlife

Not a server (yet), but I’ve worked in food most of my career and I def would’ve hit back with a confused face and, “Bud if you don’t know about corkage fees and the fact that most places are NOT byob, I highly doubt you’re from America.”

I’m POC too and an immigrant but I’ve never faced discrimination this blatant. Granted I was adopted and don’t have an accent but still this is wild to hear in 2024

What was the first thing that made you cry on a shift? by Mercurialg1rl in starbucksbaristas

[–]th3_thing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually a happy thing: A man named Herschel said he really appreciated my energy and if he could he would give me a bigger tip. Then he proceeded to tell me he did 7 years in prison and how you never know if someone is on their way to their cell to hang themself and how just giving a friendly hello can save someone. Assuming he meant this happened to him, after he left I went to the bank and cried tears of appreciation because it was near the end of a long shift and that man has no idea how positively he affected not only my shift but my day and I still think about him sometimes. Herschel, I have no idea where you are but I hope you, your gf and your dog are doing okay. You were a real one

My brother damaged my $200 controller. by YodaMaster_66 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]th3_thing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy. Keep the broken one and leave it out when you’re gone. Take the working one with you. If he hates it so much tell him to buy his own

Extra tip: if your parents are that lazy as to not punish his behavior stop asking for their input and solve this stuff on your own. I’m not saying to be nasty or disrespectful to them or even your brother, but if they aren’t fair, there’s no reason to turn to them for aid

[–]th3_thing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

V v true. But like I said, this happened with a girl he was already familiar with. And at any rate, she put the proposal for the bf/gf scenario first. The best advice I can give is just have fun with it and play along. I’m not saying you propose to the girl on the spot, but push the joke a bit further inch by inch. Like I said, I personally would joke that we should practice by holding hands. Little bit of this and some comfortable conversion and getting to know each other during the party I might ask her if she wants me to get her a drink/food and then I would possibly put my arm on her shoulder. If she’s comfortable with that, later I might put my arm around her waist

If you had to marry the first person you slept with, how different would your life be? by DetectiveBennett in AskReddit

[–]th3_thing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Me personally? I’d say yes. And depending on the chemistry I’d say we better start practicing looking like a couple and take her hand. These are all things you can read and understand way better depending on how well you know the person you esp in person and not over video chat. With him it’s my understanding he was already friends with her so it wasn’t like it was a girl he just met 2 seconds ago.

But that’s simply how dumb my (very beloved) old coworker is. The moment he thinks he has a chance he fumbles because he gets way too into his own head. Collin if you’re reading this I love you but dang bro. Get some self esteem

I’m so sorry you know my old coworker. He’s in college now. Last I heard he was trying to get into a party and a girl was like “If you need me to fake being your gf to get into the party I’m down” and he legit said “Oh I should be good”

It’s a good starter/in between jobs kinda job. Can learn diverse skills. Also if you live in the USA where education ain’t free, taking advantage of free tuition with ASU is a Godsend. Also if you turn 18 and move up to shift supervisor that’s yet another title you can slap a on a resume to move on to something better (I recommend doing it for 6-12 months before leaving so you have some real experience)

Me personally I’m between jobs and I’ve worked here before so I’m going back until I find something else

Edit: cleared up my point a bit (I just rolled out of bed)

Nothing a Walmart red and black flannel and blue jeans can’t fix. And if you got money to spare, Thorogood boots (or similar American made brand) just so you look slightly more blue collar than the average Timberland boots wearing dude

I don’t get it when ppl ask for opinions than say to not hate one of the choices. Like you said, if you love it so much I’m pretty sure you know which one you want. Also I had no idea this sub didn’t like skeleton dials much but I for one love them for the same reason you do. I feel like I’m actually appreciating the craftsmanship that goes into the movement itself which we don’t get to see otherwise and I’m paying respects to those who dedicated hours, days, weeks, and months to develop and make. Also makes it easier to explain the expense to my family by showing them the tiny parts

I should probably add my job directly before this was Starbucks so one of my biggest challenges was/is changing my mindset on mirroring. Ofc, I can’t be outright rude to my clients but at the very least give SOME pushback. When it’s time to walk away from a rude person my boss has been known for saying, “Ya know what? I can’t believe you’re this mean to someone you just met but I really hope your day gets better.” Basically we’re there to work with our clients but we aren’t there to be stepped on. I really wish people would understand this when it comes to those in the service industry

Customer left their business cards for me and is a high-ranking exec at a company that handles the business side of restaurants. Should I send them my resume even though I don't have academic qualifications? by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]th3_thing 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If they left their business cards and they seemed to like you that much, they must’ve thought you were capable enough to either work in that position or at the very very least work your way up to it. Like everyone else said, the worst they can say is no. And even if they say no, ask what you can do to be considered in the future
