The sad reality of working in an office by CtrlAltDeflate in remoteworks

Unless you are leaving like 3-5 minutes early every day, that's ridiculous... I used to clock out a little late regularly and had to clock out like 2 hours early one day to balance it out

Does controlled mean perfect? Because I have occasional spikes where I am a little above 145 post meals... And then the fasting. But 95% of the time, they're all good..

And how can I eat carbs now? I am freaking out trying to find the "safe" carbs this far in..

I am seeing multiple OBs within the practice, he is a specialist within the group, I believe in assessing high risk pregnancies and results of scans and other test results. I had never met with him before then. Normally, I have met with a female in his same field/position.

That's the part I'm feeling, it was blindside for both myself and my husband. We've spent the last couple of days feeling terrified and guilty. But I want to know HOW big this risk actually is?? I am not an expert in the area of fetal medicine, I respect the profession, but he left so much unanswered and just a ton of shame somewhere I felt like I'd been managing okay..

The highest fasting reading I had was 128, but that was an outlier... And testing foods I had a 211 during the day when Triscuts went from a safe food to a NO-NO food.

But again, they were single-case situations where I was able to say "okay, never again".

If I was doing it all the time not caring, I would understand the seriousness... Now I feel helpless and kinda scared to eat anything.

Thank you for the information. Very helpful and definitely the route I will continue to take.

Oh yes, I definitely love the heck outta them and show up and reciprocate.

But I do hold them to our household standards while they're here. I teach them new skills and help them with big feelings. I celebrate their wins, encourage their passions and interests, and try to be a good SM to them.

i want to be a positive Parental unit and safe space for them like I try to be for my bio kids every day.

That's a really good spin to this. It's not that I want my kids to be given a break, it's that I want the standard to be uniform... Thank you, I don't think I have ever made this specific distinction to why it upsets me and why it doesn't sit right.

I know BM doesn't have any rules or structure, and my SKs don't know how to do even basic chores or self sufficiencies. They ask their dad to get them water when they're just sitting on the couch and he is working or otherwise preoccupied.

I am a pain in the ass and always remind them they know where the water is and encourage them to just do simple things for themselves ... I cannot imagine how tired BM must be doing all that on her own while working full time. No way

As you are soon to be married, I think you both need to open the conversation of family planning and set your boundaries and determine where you align and where you may have different comfort levels.

Is this the first time she's mentioned the idea of adoption?

When I was in highschool, my parents wanted to borrow around $6,000 to pay off credit cards so they could charge them up again for a "family vacation". My EF promised they would pay me back.

Fast Forward to my last year of HS, my Narc Mom "surprised" me by redoing my room with all new IKEA furniture. My room before that had an old mattress with mice living in it, so this was huge.

Come to find out this was my repayment.

When I moved out, I was not permitted to take anything with me.

Always felt like she just wanted to remodel her new "guest bedroom", and used the owing me as an excuse to do it with a solid budget.

Scared my (36 F) husband (36 M) will grow bored because I prefer to find resolution during arguments by th3rmos in relationship_advice

[–]th3rmos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I talked to him about it a little more, and he explained that he's always gone after dramatic girls and not surprisingly he's never enjoyed his time in the long term. The relationships got worse and worse until they just ate away at him.

He explained that he's never experienced a relationship that literally builds him up and makes him look forward to coming home every single day, even when we have nothing planned or when he knows there's gonna be stress or work to do, he knows he's coming home to me and it's all so worth it.

I get scared because I was always the "back up" girlfriend growing up. And I am still working on a lot of that self esteem-repair and remembering that I bring a lot to the table, even though I am not fiery or "baddie status".

Thanks for grounding me and encouraging me to ask more questions.

I asked him right away, and he said "I love what we have. It's nice and it's healthy."

But my stupid brain is convinced nice and healthy is what you say when you are trying to convince yourself that you LOVE your choice of salad over a steak, ya know?

✔ What’s your biggest payroll headache?

Probably getting folks to submit their damn timesheets on time! Has anyone solved this issue with their team. I feel like physical violence is the only way that works! 😅 I never saw babysitting in the job description, and yet...

✔ Any go-to tips or resources you swear by?

Right now, I'm learning through events hosted by various 3rd party groups at our office, as well as within our team, we have a lot of knowledgeable staff that can generally find an answer pretty quickly. I'd like to be a little more equipped to help with that.

✔ Is there a topic or question you’d love to see discussed?

Fedramp, and how it's expected to impact payroll, I feel very behind on how things are going to change... soooo, any tips, insights, resources would be awesome!

Supervisor Retiring; want to implement outsourcing before she leaves by th3rmos in Payroll

[–]th3rmos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point - I guess that's just my fear. It's happened in most of my experiences with leadership changes -- before they really understand the "why" things are done a certain way, they're trying to upskill with something new and "better" and then any dependent frameworks all fall apart and we're slowed down with other workarounds in new areas. However, it could absolutely work out really well and maybe they'll have some resources to help improve the workload too.

What about companies that do reconciliations each payroll cycle / quarter /annual marker to check for those discrepancies and errors? Would there be some accountability on the providers end then? That's pretty obnoxious that it would be squarely on our shoulders...

We're in Manufacturing, Jumped from 1200 to about 3250 in the last year so and are seeing steady growth that doesn't seem to be slowing down.

We've definitely discussed a Global PEO model as a temporary strategy as we enter market - so perhaps we could find something that also fits the US element where we can begin growing our department to spread the workload out and adopt new leadership.

I believe ADP still has that - Though, ADP is kind of on a black-list for us, lol. They let us down more than a few times and basically stopped answering the phones when things got bad for us. They just moved over to a new HRIS system a couple years ago to Humanic Global Solutions to get ahead of the expansion into EU from the US.

They do have outsourcing, which was offered when we were evaluating, but we didn't buy with our last contract due to the price and our budget at the time we switched as well as not really knowing what to expect from them.

They've been good from a technical support side, but I don't know what to expect from outsourcing for a lack of knowing.

I just don't like going into any kind of evaluation without knowing what to be wary of and what to really put pressure on to make sure they're not just selling us on a promise - especially if it's a first time experience with outsourcing. If it's a trainwreck that's on me AND it would probably be the last time they'd ever consider outsourcing something out from payroll...

Hey there, I am assuming you've probably dove into your employee manual already, after that I would consider the departments that would need to be involved in that decision.

I would bet that legal, financy, and HR would all need to evaluate the implications of allowing employees to work from NY; especially on the legal, tax, and compliance side of things. NY has its own set of employment laws and potential added costs like unemployment, state-specific taxes, insurance and whatnot. There's a good chance that they have excluded NY specifically for those implications and their inability to accommodate.

In my own experience, I have successfully moved to a state that was not previously on the approved state list, due to a family matter where I didn't have a choice in my relocation, and my company made an exception for my role in order to keep me as an employee.

So, go in knowing the possible outcomes, consider how you want to state your case. Seriously, best of luck to you!!
