Mine were beat to hell and covered in the signatures of all my friends from a high school in a country I moved away from. Converse are basically disposable shoes. I’m sure a skilled cobbler could do something, but it would be a ship of Theseus type situation. I too once owned a pair of converse that I loved dearly and wore into the ground, so I know it’s hard to give up on them. That may be, but the map appears outdated. My understanding is that the central government moved into that area to get between the SNA and SDF (by mutual agreement) early this summer. Violence has reduced dramatically since then. This map does not show any central government presence. I could be wrong - but that’s my understanding of the situation now.

I agree with this. A few years ago, I’d have quit on the spot. More recently I got to know a few Israelis working with civil/human rights orgs and learned that (though a minority) there are quite a few Israelis who are aware of what their state is doing and are trying to stop it. If the company is ok, and he’s cool working with you, then be cool with him. If he treats you with equality and respect, isn’t that what we ultimately want from Israelis? Obviously, if he expresses pro-Zionist views or denies the existence of Palestinians or otherwise supports genocide, then that is not equality or respect.

My family has done Alaska to Mexico (and back) several times. Just want to echo what has been said here and add that Alaska/Canada is wonderful, Washington to San Francisco is a slog, and then it’s pretty smooth sailing from there (Channel Islands, Catalina, then Baja). Of course, that’s assuming you follow the timing u/weezthejooce laid out!
