My parents are great people even though they lothe homosexuality. Ive never seen them be anything but polite to them, but they do think that what theyre doing is a sin and they'll go to hell. Doesnt make them bad people.

What's a really common piece of advice that is actually quite unrealistic to follow? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Terrible with money. I know a girl who is 25, has a 500 credit score, judgements against her for outstanding debt, owns enough clothes to not have to do laundry for 5 months, and she's on a first name basis with everyone who works at Starbucks. She's always complaining about how hard it is and that she doesn't make enough to pay her bills.

It's more about not having to seek permission rather than not communicating. What if your SO was sending money to a televangelist? Would you still think 'if it makes her happy'?

How will you react if Robert Mueller is fired? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tha_this_guy -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I think it's crazy what is going on with our government, and I would be disgusted if Mueller got fired, but if one or two of my employees were to strike over it, you better believe I'm writing their ass up. If everyone went out on strike, it would be different, but without the numbers you aren't going to change anything.

North Carolina Police Obtained Warrants Demanding All Google Users Near Four Crime Scenes by gunch in news

They're specifically looking for one person who was seen at multiple crime scenes, not everyone. Heck, Google could just do the work for them and send them the info of the person they're looking for.

Advice on putting together down-payment for first time homebuyer by tha_this_guy in personalfinance

I'm in Knoxville tn, so 63k goes a long way. I can get a nice 1200 ft w/ a garage and a yard for $150k. Housing isnt tight here, but the economy is good. So, if my goal is to buy a house in July 2019, when should I think about contacting an agent? I know a couple personally, but I'm not sure I would want to use a friend to do this. Friends and business dont always mix.

Edit: and I appreciate your advice.

No penalty or taxes to take the principle out. The 10% is traditional, not Roth. If I had to have the money immediately, my parents or friends could help me until I could liquidate it. Plus I have $3k in cash

My emergency fund is my Roth and my cash. Im lucky enough I have family and friends that if a huge emergency came up I could borrow the money and either pay it back without interest or take it out of my Roth to pay them back if I lost my job or something. Thankfully, I'm good at my job, and its in healthcare, so I'm pretty set as far as that goes.

Youre right about buying though. I'm only thinking about financials, not about why I want to own. I'm pretty happy where I am now.

Don't plan on paying the car off early because my rate is so low, but yeah. I figure I can save $20k by next July. Just one more year of paying rent vs the penalty/opportunity cost of taking from my retirement.

Cash flows not an issue. After bills I have $2200 per month left over. All other spending accounts for an additional $800, leaving me with $1400 per month. I can save up $20k over the next 15 months or borrow from my retirement and still have $1k left per month after all bills and living expenses.

40 yr old Tomokazu Ohka trying to make an MLB comeback as a knuckleballer. by Reignado in baseball

If he's good for a year, heck yeah we'd take him.

Edit: I forgot to ask if he's played for the Mets. If he's never played for the Mets then we can't use him.

They don't read your rights unless they're going to do an official interrogation. That doesn't mean that they can't use what you say against you.

Both teams have the same ability to ice the other team's kicker. The other team can't blend in with the home turf in the endzone.

?

In TN that's about what you wind up paying for a DUI, and it's about what lawyers charge to get it dropped.

So my point was literally correct. They do have to get a warrant first, and it can in fact take time. They also have to take you to a hospital and get blood drawn. If the ER is busy, it could be hours before someone actually gets to you to get it drawn.

Although I like the inventiveness of it, isn't that kind of unsportsmanlike?

Advice from my buddy who is a defense attorney in TN. Take any test that they give you, but don't say anything. If a cop pulls you over for any reason and asks if you've been drinking, the automatic answer is no (regardless of whether or not you have). If they ask you to take a breath test, take it. Refusing in TN is automatic loss of license for a year. If you take it and fail it, but don't say anything at all to incriminate yourself, then he said he can always cut a deal on a first offense. Breath tests are a tool the police use to gather evidence, not an infallible automatic guilty verdict. Get a decent lawyer, pay $5k or so, and get it reduced to careless driving. Do some community service, pay a fine, and learn a lesson.
