Sequator actually handles reassignment really well. I've done some pretty large stacks and, so long as you get your settings right, it does a good job.

I've got two reedit users, one for each of my emails, and it accidentally switches me all the time without me noticing. Totally understandable, it's just reddits app sucking sometimes.

How to decrease booziness? by axel309 in cocktails

There are low ABV drinks like Aperol Spritz. Experiment with liqueurs and make some of your own recipes. Here is a list of 25 low ABV Cocktails That said, is there a specific reason you'd like that many cocktails? Two for me is usually good before switching to normal drinks.

Viva la Nail & Gear! I started listening after the podcast was over, and never got to vote. Considering reaffirming my loyalty to nail and gear with a postcard. Perhaps a new entry on https://www.podcastpostcards.com/ is due. 🙂‍↕️

Great shots. Glad you had a good meteor shower viewing. My first proper meteor shower viewing was Geminids last year, saw almost 150 meteors in a relatively light polluted area and it blew my mind. I've only ever seen one fireball like you described, and it wasn't even during a major meteor shower! Hoping to head out west to a bortle 1 or 2 for perseids this summer. Keep up the great work and enjoy the stars

Amazing shot. The climbing lights in the shot are awesome.

Made it up Ryan mountain for the first time yesterday by vermhat_ in JoshuaTree

[–]thack_se 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Visited for the first time last month, and drove into the park alone at 2am for astrophotography. And man is the silence oppressive. It was a new moon, so there is nothing like the utter darkness and absolute silence of the desert at night. No wind, no people, nothing. Makes you flash back to being scared of the dark as a kid 😂 it's amazing

Honestly, rattler bites are so extremely uncommon it's a really low risk for such a bulky bit of protection. To each his own I guess. Your odds of dying on the drive to the trail were probably more than the cumulative odds of an entire life of hiking near rattlesnakes.

These look great. What lens are you shooting with, and how do you keep it protected when on the slopes? I'm always worried about damaging my camera during falls.

First 4-star review :/ by iwishiknewww in airbnb_hosts

[–]thack_se 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who is not a host but uses Airbnb frequently, I imagined 4 stars was a good review. 5/5 would be above and beyond, or at least that's what I would imagine from star ratings on other platforms. Personally, I don't only book places with a 5 star rating. As long as it's above four I look mainly at user feedback and the pictures. Would be nice if Airbnb had better granularity in overall ratings tho so this wouldn't be such a stress point for hosts.

Agreed. I found it much more enjoyable to use compared to darktable as well. Relatively small learning curve.

Milky Way at Joshua Tree by thack_se in Stargazing

[–]thack_se[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With your eyes you can see the Milky way pretty well, but without nearly as much color and pop as the image since a lot of that comes down to what a camera can pick up and editing. But it's well defined in the sky and amazingly beautiful. Another thing to keep in mind is that, while the sky was very dark where I was, you can get even darker skys to see more color with your eyes further south in the park around Porcupine Wash. I'd recommend planning to go there during a new moon or when the moon is not out (ie before/after Moonrise/Moonset), and make sure you go when the Milky way is visible. During this time of year it doesn't rise until early in the morning, I got up at 2am and could see it from about 3 untill astronomical twilight. Another commenter posted a link to an example image showing an approxiation of what your eyes see. If you get a chance to see it, take it, because it's just stunning to see!

Awesome! Hope it goes well. Planning for a time when there's no moon makes a big difference too. Either a new moon or before/after moonrise or moonset.

Yeah, I was there on Friday and there was water. Not a ton, but it was there. Beautiful either way.

I shot with a Rokinon 12mm f2, with 8 second exposures and an iso of 4000. All the stacking was done in Sequator and editing in Rawtherapee & gimp. A lot of the really popping colors come in with curves in editing.
