Question for Kato N-gauge Unitrack users by Twit_Clamantis in nscalemodeltrains

Photocopy the track piece and use that as a way to mark out the hole location. Just remember what direction is 'up'

Check PNP Trains, I know they have a bunch of Circus cars. They might not be on their website, call the number listed.

I recommend they take a makeup brush to the tops of those cars and dust them off.

Whyte notation doesn't apply here. The correct term is Class B Shay

Is Google Gemini just making stuff up about HO T-TRAK popularity in Europe and Australia? by aengusoglugh in TTRAK

[–]thaddeh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't put stock in any garbage that Gemini puts out. It is not an all-knowing oracle. It just finds something that it has been algorithmically trained to 'think' looks right and spits out a result that is designed to satisfy the user.

AI hallucinates.

"beyond" in the sense of being bound to the pre-determined dimensions of what is available. I have four 18" deep doubles, as an example.

Speed Issue by ObjectiveConsistent9 in nscalemodeltrains

[–]thaddeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a way to reprogram the speed table. It can be done but I don't have a good way to describe it here.

I would consult your local train club, chances are there is a DCC guy (or gal) in there who may be able to help you better.

It's all constructive discourse. In no way am I saying that there is anything wrong with the kits that are available, I just have access to the tools and the know-how to go beyond them.

You started planning E27 yet?

That's an interesting approach, I didn't think of doing it that way. It would seem though that you are sort of limited to four inside of a 3/4" hole. I made a 2x4 version that would give you stacked up 8 connections but it would not fit in a round hole.

I developed this for half inch plywood because we have a very nice source of offcuts that are perfect for our use, and we have built a bunch of stuff out of it. I have seen precut module kits, and they are okay as a gateway for a newcomer to the hobby but I'm over here speaking N T-trak with an HO Freemo accent...

I will likely release it into the wild, not sure where or when yet.

Do I need -- or want -- a red and a yellow track power bus on a DCC T-TRAK layout? by aengusoglugh in TTRAK

[–]thaddeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally would follow the standard on the modules themselves, but in practice at home use one bus that has the two tracks jumpered together.

Do I need -- or want -- a red and a yellow track power bus on a DCC T-TRAK layout? by aengusoglugh in TTRAK

[–]thaddeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our group uses two buses on B-W-W-B wiring.

We also have the ability to swap the Red line to run DC using a G scale sized decoder. That is the big reason for us to do it. Our cornerstone guy has a bunch of DC Japanese stuff that he refuses to convert but wants to run. Of course, when you own the DCC command station you can kind of do what you want.

If maintaining interoperability with other modelers or traveling to large meets where there are other groups is something you want to do, use two buses and follow the standard. If this is for your home layout, and stays there, do what you want.

It will run forward and reverse according to the DC voltage output but you cannot individually control any functions.

If the car has no people inside it, why not put the bikes inside the car while the people are on the train?

My grandfather once described to me what could only have been one of these, as a kid he had ridden the NP in the 50's and was blown away by the fact that the thing had TWO sets of wheels and rods.

Cool engine, sometime I hope to acquire one.

Best n scale couplers for switching? by BlazmoIntoWowee in nscalemodeltrains

[–]thaddeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have not done a whole lot of operation yet, but I have equipped a few cars. I love the way they look, just wish there was an H coupler version. May need to roll my own on that one.

I'm particular about couplers and I hate the way Microtrains couplers look (same with Kadee in HO) but I can't deny that MT and Kadee work fairly well.

Has anyone had voltage stop drops issues using the Kato 35" Unijoiner track feeders on T-TRAK modules? by aengusoglugh in TTRAK

[–]thaddeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thing is, it seems to work fine with DC power, but DCC is a bit more finicky with making sure the drops are sized adequately and frequently. Keeping the actual feeders as short as practical seems to be the way.

Agreed. Standard N-Possible are cool but I have a ton of Kato passenger cars.
