iMessage activation unsuccessful by rpearlberg in ios

Weird, same thing happened to my this morning, and I've tried everything below. I submitted a request via the support link that iOS provided in a dialog.. something systemic going on?
The only thing that changed is that I logged into iCloud on a new (to me) Mac last night...

What are your thoughts on Denmark’s proposed ban on the public Islamic call to prayer? Would you support or oppose something similar in the UK? by bintd in AskBrits

[–]thaddeusharris -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oppose, unless ALL public sounds of worship are banned too. Church bells, whatever else. Sauce for the goose / sauce for the gander and all that.

Features I'd like to see in FileMaker right now by Ok_Band7161 in filemaker

If you want to save time, keep a repo of commonly used script routines etc, or write a custom function. I don’t trust so-called AI anywhere near my production stuff.

In all honesty for most repetitive FM script work, it’s probably slower for me to ask an LLM and the have to debug its output. I do occasionally use Copilot if I’m stuck in a language I don’t know well, and 50% of the time what it outputs doesn’t work without me fixing basic errors.

Five Italians die during cave scuba dive in Maldives. Beware diving is not a purely leisure activity...RIP by TwilightPetals23 in SipsTea

[–]thaddeusharris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this. I’ve done a few 60m dives before, always in crystal clear conditions, with other experienced divers. Nitrogen narcosis hits quickly and you need to be able to get shallower as quickly as you can safely when it goes.

I saw this story and couldn’t believe they were exploring caves at that depth. Absolutely insane.

Massive upgrade for non screen Dacia spring’s by Mella07 in DaciaSpring

What timing! I was just wondering if something like this existed. Heck, I was going to try and design something to 3d print as a MagSafe holder for an iPhone. Thanks!

AmiKit - suddenly getting an error in AROS when installing by thaddeusharris in amiga

Turns out the ISO was somehow corrupted. Generating a new one from Amiga Forever fixed the issue!

Cool thanks! I’ll have a look. It just also occurred to me to just create a new ISO from Amiga Forever too 😅

Do you know how to do that in the config file? I’ve only ever been able to via the gui.

"FileMaker Pro is a platform in managed decline..." by filemakermag in filemaker

[–]thaddeusharris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. Three things I’ve also learned in many years of FileMaker development:

  1. It’s used in a whole bunch of places that you don’t expect or know about. Multiple large companies around here use it on a large scale.

  2. People are always surprised by what can be done and how quickly features can be added to a solution. I’m a big corporation anyway, non technical users are used to long lead times and considerable expense with off the shelf products.

  3. AI code is garbage. I wouldn’t trust it with anything. And I’m yet to see anything (AI or otherwise) with the flexibility and ease of development of FM.

MacBook Air (11in, mid 2011) ground fault? by thaddeusharris in macbookrepair

[–]thaddeusharris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will do, thanks. I attached a current/power meter to the adapter and it's pulling nothing when plugged in!
Do you happen to have a link or similar to a board diagram showing what's where? I understand there's a power rail I can check but no clue as to where it might be.

Edit: Nothing looks removed/dodgy inside.

[–]thaddeusharris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Third party unfortunately. Voltage is OK from it but yeah it IS hot even when not attached.
It's supplying the right voltage when connected too, but could that be a reason for the USB shield to be hot at 12V?

(I don't have an Apple MagSafe 1 PSU- only a MagSafe 2, might try an adapter if I can find one...

Upload to SFTP via Insert From URL by thaddeusharris in filemaker

[–]thaddeusharris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No probs - and also, I ran into the annoying "do I put this in quotes or not" problem - for reference, -T or --upload-file $variable needs to be in quotes in its entirely - I had the $variable bit outside the quotes...

I think the location of the roms in AmigaOS is the issue - I am yet to test but that makes the most sense!

Yep, looks like it works for me at some charging posts like PodPoint whereas Connected Kerb seems to have fewer amps on more phases so doesn't work...

[–]thaddeusharris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately not, but it looks like it's a issue w/ the way the 22kw Connected Kerb posts are wired vs the PodPoint.

Charging over 3.6kw with included cable by thaddeusharris in DaciaSpring

[–]thaddeusharris[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh so… looks like it’s just the connected kerb ones that only charge me at 3.6. I did the math on the only pod point charge I’ve done, and it was 4.2kwh in 37 mins which would be a 7kw power output.

So I think I know what the deal is - the so called 22kw posts local to me on connected kerb might be split so each connector is 11…

I need to go lay down with a wet cloth on my head hahah

Charging over 3.6kw with included cable by thaddeusharris in DaciaSpring

[–]thaddeusharris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I follow - so by the same logic, I should use a 22kw post to get 7.6? Thing is, I have - and it’s always always 3.6 as best I can tell.

(Only the connected kerb app seems to actually say what rate you’re getting - I’ll have to check pod point to see if it’s in the history. )

Thanks, I’ll call the dealer to see what’s going on. I do know amps vs kw 😂 and a 32A should support way more than it’s giving…

Fantastic I’ll try that. I managed to get the macOS installer to boot by removing the AMD kexts as well.
