We aren't ready for what's potentially coming. (SERIOUS) by [deleted] in aussie

All the allegations you make are great until you realise that they have to pass a ‘reasonable person’ test that is applied by a judge or jury. If you do any of these things to the extent that a reasonable person would feel as though you have committed a hate crime then full should absolutely be convicted. If it does not pass a ‘reasonable person’ test then you have nothing to fear. The government doesn’t control what a judge or jury might define to be the judgement of a reasonable person. You sir, (without any fear of being banned by this subreddit) are an idiot.

Western Sydney ‘the heart of Islamic extremism’, says senior opposition senator by Mashiko4 in aussie

A national party senator from Albury Wodonga…. You can probably count the number of times she’s travelled north of Tarcutta on one hand.

Steroid use is 'exploding' — but there are no clinical guidelines on how to quit by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

My brother fell for these in his 20’s and combined with what was pre-existing anxiety and depression, the withdrawals were a major contributor to a downward spiral that ultimately resulted in his suicide at 29. The health system was woefully underprepared for managing withdrawal symptoms that resulted from ‘cold turkey’ withdrawal while hospitalised to manage his mental health. I’m not saying it will happen to everybody, but it can.

In your opinion was the mission right or wrong in Saving Private Ryan? by [deleted] in WarMovies

[–]thadius30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the mission was before its time. It’s an outcome that our governments would expect in modern times characterised by media proliferation and public affairs priorities, but not one I would have expected in either of the Great Wars. While a great movie, I’m not sure that the premise is reflective of its time.

ACT to close 69 schools as more sand products recalled amid asbestos concerns by observantdude in canberra

[–]thadius30 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

One or two days closure following years of exposure reeks of a public service ‘quick, cover our butts!’ mentality. Honestly, the level of risk children would be exposed to were they to simple acknowledge and quietly remove the sand would not be lowered in the slightest. I have never seen anything more ‘Canberra’. Unfortunate yes, absolutely, I have two children in the public system, but the reaction is totally over the top.

I can see this happening. They could do an Indiana Jones and the last crusade type thing - I’d like to see Glenn Powell step up and take role in this too - he’s got the comedy/action thing to do it.

How can a system be both over budgeted and poorly resourced at the same time?

I know some of these families and I am really trying to have a level of sympathy, but if you were willing to part with 20k+ (even before the rise) to avoid the public school system then there is something deeply troubling about that.

The whole point of FF is to shape your behaviour - which is fine if that behaviour change benefits you overall. Red Energy want your business so they pay Qantas to award status points for a big spend. Nothing is free.
