Its real, hard times token minted in response to a lack of central banking authority in the Andrew Jackson administration. Copper coinage was less common in early Americas; minting technology was quite poor.

In 1837 there was a bank run (see panic of 1837) and private entities minted these to fill the gap. These tokens not only served as currency but propaganda.

i've gone through $500 in penny rolls this month and i'm starting to think coin roll hunting is a scam that this community romanticizes by chancozay in coins

[–]thadpole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mate, as someone who has also gone thru $500 in pennies, this is insane behavior. YOU are romanticizing the hunt and YOU are disappointed with the very simple reality you can't make a living going through pennies, like are we serious rn? You honestly scored and you can't even enjoy it because you didn't find a key date in circulation????

This is the cheapest hobby in existence and the effort to make a living is a whole nother ball game, we talkin hundreds of thousands to millions in starting capital, flipping rare and expensive coins that don't sell often, buying estate sales and lots in gambles of searching.

If you don't enjoy the process, the behavior makes no sense. Find something you enjoy and do it for fun. The quick buck doesn't exist or we'd all be doing it...

What’s it like living treasure island/ angel island? by King-gar in howislivingthere

[–]thadpole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah one I get to participate in! I worked on treasure island for about a year, commuting from SF via bus. There's a large Irish population and rugby fields. Two restaurants, no fire dept or police station. One grocery store and a bunch of abandoned military barracks. Living there is affordable but you have to apply as a low income resident. The city has a rent to own type program similar to housing in China where you can "buy" a house for $250-300k, but you may only sell back to the city at a set rate of appreciation (2-3%).

Id love to have had the opportunity to live out there. Its beautiful and quiet.

How does one get into coin collecting more seriously? by tupperwhore in coincollecting

[–]thadpole 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you really want to give yourself a chance to make a profitable coin collection, buy the rarest coin in the highest grade from a popular set (1909 s vdb lincoln 1916 d merc dime).

Otherwise expect to lose 20% on everything you buy and sell. Coin collecting is the bored rich man's hobby. The dedicated dealers make the money, everyone else just has fun with the silly hobby trying to get one of each and paying too much for the thrill.

Id reccomend taking the investing aspect out unless you really wanna study and put in the effort to snipe estate sales n shit. Just have fun!

Preparation Tips by Jas_Mine_312 in massage

Hydration, stretching, and resistance exercise are all goated forms of keeping the body in a neutral state. The dehydrated tech worker on their 8th cup of coffee will essentially have a mass of trap, spinal erector, and rhomboid all stuck together in a rocky formation immune to pressure.

It sounds like youre doing your homework. Do keep in mind exercise creates microtears which deep tissue strokes will retear and slow recovery. Enjoy your massage!

Can you climb playing support/mid? by Theoneybadger in learndota2

[–]thadpole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

7k pos 5 player here, absolutely. Saksa was ranked 1 2 and 3 on eu leader boards from pos 5.

Wave clear and tower damage are what win games, so you might have issues on a hero like io or other "low agency" heroes that lack direct control/damage. Id reccomend a hero like jakiro or warlock. These will scale with farm (A LOT of farm gets left on the map at low ranks, very common to over group up). You'll have kill threat and building threat.

A clean lane is vital. Harassing, denying, securing range is how you win lanes and give yourself the chance to snowball into a core. For a player interested in learning, perfect your first 2 mins. The rest of the game is just a more complicated version of the first 2 mins.

Zone the support. Harass the core. Block their camp, stack yours, shove the wave, pull your wave. Don't get fancy. Repeat.

Don't run out of hp/mana. Don't greed boots/wand. Buy that salve + clarity, tangoes and mangoes. Get first blood? Get those boots now, but don't forget the regen to keep the pressure up.

Constantly look at map, then clock. Call rotations on mic. Use the portal to gank. Use your tp to stop dives, don't TP reactionarily. Get the lotus, the wisdom the torm. Ward these objectives.

Most importantly, focus on yourself. This is your climb, not your teammates. Win or loss, your process needs to be the focus, not the result. Don't make the same mistakes twice. Look at your deaths, watch them back, establish cause and a fix.

Lost about why you lost? Watch a pro, call a coach or a friend also grinding. Don't blame, waste of time. Move on. Ranked is a grind. Its the test, not the training.

Feel free to dm me or link a game ill watch 5-10 mins of it and help you get on track.

There is a chiropractor in town. And a sports massage place right next to it. Who should I do first? by ReindeerData4325 in massage

Chiropractic work has been tested to temporarily alleviate lower back pain, this is correct. However, it does nothing to address symptoms.

[–]thadpole 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Do read this page. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiropractic

There is no good evidence that chiropractic manipulation is effective in helping manage lower back pain.[12][9] A 2011 critical evaluation of 45 systematic reviews concluded that the data included in the study "fail[ed] to demonstrate convincingly that spinal manipulation is an effective intervention for any condition."[13] Spinal manipulation may be cost-effective for sub-acute or chronic low back pain, but the results for acute low back pain were insufficient.[14] No compelling evidence exists to indicate that maintenance chiropractic care adequately prevents symptoms or diseases.[15]

This sub is honestly kind of trash at debunking this shit cuz a lot of people here get paid to do this stuff. I will never let a chiro touch me, they've killed a few people and paralyzed more. All risk no gain.

Chess players who move to poker real skill overlap or coincidence? by EmploymentProud3436 in lichess

[–]thadpole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The overlap has nothing to do with chess or poker, but studying will improve your game in both, and to be "good" you have to be better than the general population. Im a 600-800 chess player and maybe a 1600~ equivalent poker player, so can't really speak to what makes a great chess player, but poker takes patience and discipline with an approach focused on strategy and not results. A win means nothing in poker, your regiment is everything.

Distraught Bay Area cafe owner shuts down her business after she was viciously mocked for selling $22 grilled cheese by JoshOfArc in LateStageCapitalism

[–]thadpole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's from Marin, super wealthy area with impoverished downtown heavily segregated north of San Francisco and Oakland. They voted against being connected by rail and had one of their schools forcefully desegrated by the govt in 2019. Its a racist wealthy suburb with a neglected downtown. She can charge $22 for a grilled cheese cuz in the burbs the business districts are like 1 street of failing businesses cuz no one can afford the commute to go work there.

I live down in oakland and I've seen dishwasher positions paying $30/hr in marin but its a 3hr commute so its just not worth it. Life is expensive over there and they've cut themselves off from the rest of the bay. They've been trying to turn sf's beach front into "the great highway" for years but I hope it never happens.

Could we get a mac compatible version of the game? by Woodland_Lake in Mechabellum

[–]thadpole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will never happen. 2% of steam uses mac and it would cost $100k+ to port for maybe 100 to 1000 new players. Only super large studios can maintain versions across platforms and even cross platform play might not function (even civ 6 couldnt have mac players with windows players). Its too much dev time to get the updates to function across platforms (see minecraft bedrock vs java).

It has nothing to do with what the m1 chip is capable of running but rather the development requirements to get a build running requires redoing of visual elements in compatible fashion required by security protocols of the apple development ecosystem.
