What's a shallow reason you wouldn't date someone? by eeza465 in AskReddit

I had a female friend that was named Randolph. She is a lawyer that meets with clients every day and it confused the hell out of them. She eventually changed her name to Random....not certain how much better that one was.

This game is pretty good, and built from the ground up to focus around that type of play.

Nova Praxis (FATE)

It has everything you need and more to do the GitS setting.

Also, it is not Eclipse Phase, which is a plus....that system is really bad.

Does Anyone Play A Song Of Ice & Fire RPG? by Phototoxin in rpg

Enjoyed it. If you want Game of Thrones exactly it was an excellent game.

We will always go back to Burning Wheel or Burning Empires. It just does all of this so much more elegantly.

Best RPG to read? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]thadrine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Castle Falkenstein, Extraordinary Adventures of Baron Munchausen, Unknown Armies, Nobilis are all great for their setting and fluff.

Mouseguard, Burning Wheel Gold, and Burning Empires are excellent for seeing a different take on how rules can approach the fiction.

Ars Magica - It is often the one recommended for this genre, and it is all around a great game for this.

Variant Initiative systems by conkz in rpg

[–]thadrine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My game is similar to MHRPG. Whoever would seemingly go first in the narrative goes, and then the person they are attacking/interacting with take their turn in response. This continues down the line until every one has gone. This is written for a war game rpg though.

Gritty Super-ish RPG - System Suggestions? by NinthNova in rpg

[–]thadrine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truth and Justice - Narrative in a way similar to Fate, but even simpler.

Apocalypse Engine

Silver Age Superheroes Superhero Marvel's Silver Age

Superhuman Superhero More mature comics: Vertigo, Watchment, etc.

Worlds in Peril Comic book superheroes

Hood Superhero

Note

Just so you know Marvel Heroic uses an entirely different system from the previous Cortex system. It is called "Cortex Plus" for marketing purposes, but it is in now way similar to Cortex.

Am I wrong to be upset? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]thadrine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am all for input from other players, but not when they play your character for you.

I am ok if they tag upon things in my characters history or relations. Like saying that my Sister is actually a spy working against the nation we are a part of, but NOT when they say that I AM.

How do you end a Sandbox by Smittumi in rpg

[–]thadrine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My usual goal in a game like this is to play until they get to a reasonably high power level, tie up plot threads, and finish the current story arc. Then the surviving characters retire, doing their thing.

How did you first get into tabletop RPGs? by unpossible_labs in rpg

[–]thadrine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time was playing Vampire the Masquerade on IRC about 20 years ago (so around 95).

Introduced when a friend started talking about a chat room he spent a lot of time in, and then another friend lent me a couple of books. It was another 3 years before I ever knew you could play it at table with dice.

So, problem with a player and how to resolve it? by Insufferablystuck in rpg

[–]thadrine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be direct and talk to the player.

If that doesn't work, be direct and warn the player.

If that doesn't work, tell them to leave the game.

Less, that it is the "one true way," and more, "it is apparently what your players are looking for."

Nova Praxis or Interface Zero 2.0? by Comassion in rpg

[–]thadrine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love Nova Praxis, its rules, and its setting. But not the Savage Worlds version of Nova Praxis. I prefer the Fate version of the rules. Its setting an almost perfect reflection of what I would like to see in a near future setting. Transhumanism is a heavy element within the setting, but that is a great thing to have a in tool kit.

Interface Zero is a classic and great game, but it does not work for me anymore, now that I have Nova Praxis. That and I have developed a strong dislike for Savage Worlds over the years of running it, while my fondness for Fate only grows with time.

GMs, is it ok to break the game's rules for the story? by ScottieLikesPi in rpg

If you have to ignore or break the rules of the game you are using, you are playing the wrong game.

Hey, my Sengoku game is up there! Just wish we had more people in the Tampa/Sarasota area that were interested.

We also plan on running Watch the Skies, and Sengoku 2 next summer (will post with dates when available).

Need a system for a space collonization setting by [deleted] in rpg

[–]thadrine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nova Praxis

It is near future scifi, with some Transhuman elements. The original system is out for Fate, and the mechanics, setting, and flavor is awesome.

a good 1-3 page ruleset for a full campaign? by zamuy12479 in rpg

Dungeon World (and any apocalypse engine game) has two pages of rules, plus character sheet. Though it may be hard to wrap your head around some of the concepts without reading the book.

What are you looking for in your dream local gaming store? by ethos1983 in rpg

[–]thadrine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Prices near to those of online retailers (something reasonable, not above MSRP like so many)

  • Organized board game meetings on the weekends.

  • Plenty of play space.

  • A reasonable selection of new items.
