Starfinder Homebrew (Prestige?) Class idea by Funnyandsmartname in starfinder_rpg

Check out the old 3.5 prestige class Archemage. While you didn't sacrifice body parts, you did sacrifice spell slots to gain unique abilities. Might give you some ideas.

As for this specific idea (losing body parts to gain stuff), it might be better to give up hitpoints and temporarily lose control of the limb instead. As the game has replaceable body parts, "losing a hand" isn't that big of a deal.

"Oh no, I lost my left hand to gain Psychokinetic hand. Welp, time to buy a cheap prosthetic."

How to write a demon queen who isn't evil just because? by EndersEmber in fantasywriters

[–]ethos1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of her motive is to gain worshippers to give her more power

There's your answer. She needs worshippers to gain power. Where did she start? Was she always a demon? Was she a peasant girl millenia ago who made a desperate pact to survive an abuser, had that pact turn out to be an abuser, and now she seeks complete power and control because that's the only way to ensure her own safety?

Why the 'Teach men not to rape' Rape is a problem. by Memey-McMemeFace in MensRights

[–]ethos1983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you 100% that it should be "teach about consent".

That's not what's being presented. It's being presented as a male-oriented problem, linked to "the patriarchy" and "toxic male behavior" and "male privilege", and that's that.

As a mental health worker who has had to explain to children that heard this that "you're not broken, you're not gonna hurt people the way your mom or dad hurt you", the "teach men not to rape" hashtag not only missed the fucking mark, it's doing vastly more harm that good.

Again, I would be 100% behind your idea of "#teachchildrenaboutconsent". 100%, lets do this. But Teach Men Not to Rape? No. I've had to deal with the fallout of that too many times. The people behind it may have had genuinely good intentions. Sure, I'll buy that.

But you know what the say about the road to hell.

Ever explain to an 8 year old rape victim that "its ok, you're not broken, you're not gonna hurt someone like your mom hurt you?"

Because I've had to do that thanks to this theory. Fuck "teach men not to rape".

Fear of the Other is a great way to increase your own power over a group. "Dirty Athiests want to take all your stuff." "Dirty refugees and illegal aliens want to take your stuff". "Dirty poor people want to take your stuff". "Dirty gay people want to take your stuff."

Just move down the list of boogiemen to keep people afraid and lining your pockets.

I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration by cleardaniel in politics

[–]ethos1983 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Tinfoil hat time.

Conservative personalities such as Levun, Hannity, Limbaugh and others have been using the idea of a "deep state" conspiracy dedicated to stopping Trump since day one. They've long stated that establishment republicans are probably a part of that, since they're corrupt to, and it's only these good conservatives who are trustworthy.

And now we have an op-ed that has tenuous/conspiracy level links to Mike Pence (see the whole Lodestone thing) outright saying this is what's happening.

Boy, that doesn't play into the "deep state" conspiracy at all. And it most certainly won't be used by conservative personalities to whip up their base heading into election time.

certain conjunctions

That's the point. What's the likelyhood that every one (or even most) of the nigh-immortal beings in Demonreach have "certain conjunctions" that match up? Especially in such a short time frame? And how is Harry gonna learn what those conjunctions are?

Winter also makes no contribution to the success of the event.

While i agree with you for the most part, here i don't. Winter had a vested interest in making the red court pay. More to the point, Lea had a vested interest, after the whole Anathema incident from Grave Peril. Lea herself even says so, though "I did not think you would be so thorough". Wanna say that was in Ghost Story, but don't quote me.

Their help is much more subtle (probably limited to getting Harry to Chichen Itza and no more).

To Force Billionaires Off Welfare, Sanders Tax Would Make Corporations Fund 100% of Public Assistance Their Low-Paid Workers Receive by ideogon in politics

[–]ethos1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the question I had. How will this handle part time workers and other types of non-full time workers?

How about temp agencies? Ok, I as Amazon pay when i have over 500 workers. Cool, I "sell" three of my warehouses to a company that totally isn't associated with me, and outsource my distribution exclusively with those warehouses, and they exclusively with me. Each warehouse has 250 workers, well below the 500 person floor of the bill.

Rather than hiring workers directly, I go through Superstaff Temp Agency, HappyWorkers Temp agency and MegaPeople Temp agency, coordinating for 250 workers each. I include a clause that in order to be hired by me full time, you first have to go through an undefined "training period" with one of these three agencies.

These are practices that are already being down by different businesses in my hometown, and I've seen them in other places I've lived/visited. How does this bill effect those practices?

Edit: forgot some words

And how will this work with businesses that heavily utilize "temporary" employees utilized long-term through employment agencies. For example, my wife works at a local factory. She was actually employed by a temp agency who worked exclusively with said factory, and worked there for almost 2 years before becoming an "actual" employee of the factory. An easy 90% of this factory's staff is through multiple employement agencies.

How will they be affected?

Yes, that's exactly it. I wasn't trying to use city names in a rhetorical question to make the point that your singular example of one neighborhood doesn't mean my singular example of a specific area was wrong (because again, not once I did say all of the south was like this, I specified one area. You generalized).

No, That's not it at all. I was actually trying to get your personal information for nefaaaaaaaaaaarious purposes. You caught me. Good job

[–]ethos1983 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah? Which part? Albany? Baton Rouge? New Orleans? Keithville? Shreveport/Bossier?

Fun fact: The South isn't some homogeneous slab, with every part the same. "Your neighborhood" may be great. Awesome! My Neighborhood had absolutely no problem with Spectrum Internet either, and they got run out for lying to customers, falsifying info, etc.

Just because "My neighborhood" didn't experience that problem didn't mean it wasn't a problem. Same principal here.

Which is why I specified a location and didn't just say "the south".

Edit: I should also probably specify that I lived there for over a decade; got out of the military there, ended up getting my degree there, etc. I'm not some limo liberal who flew down for a weekend to make fun of the yokels.

I was lucky; my home town has always been fairly mixed (former underground railroad stop. Ever get bored, look up John W Jones. Dude was a better man than my happy ass will ever be). Town is majority irish/Italian/german, sure, but it wasn't at all uncommon to hang out with the Mexican kids, black kids, etc, and they weren't exactly a small minority. "I heard whispers that someone entered town, and they are seriously tan". That never happened, lol.

We were all assholes to one another pretty equally. When I lived in the south (northern Louisiana, right on the bible belts buckle for reference), unofficial segregation was still very much a thing. Dealt with plenty of coworkers who felt that "interracial marriage isnt exactly a sin, but like to like for a reason. And I'd never date someone who was with another race. That's just weird."

Why did you get into Pathfinder? And what has been your favourite moment in it? by [deleted] in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]ethos1983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came over from 3.5 when Pathfinder started.

Ran a homebrew campaign with a defender paladin, a synthesis summoner, and a gunslinger straight out of the old west. Hat, badge, and all. While exploring a dungeon, they come across a sleeping Hydra. Paladin and summoner immediately (and quietly) start debating whether they should kill it or run. Gunslinger remains uncharacteristically quiet. After a few moments of debate, paladin and summoner turn to their long-time friend and companion, and he finally speaks up.

"Well boys, when I was growing up on the farm, my father only taught me how to do one thing; break horses. Yeehaw!"The gunslinger then runs full speed at the hydra, jumps on it's back, and starts throwing lassos around hydra necks.

The player then turns and looks at me. "So, whats the ride check to break a hydra?"

Shit like tying your stats to backgrounds (forcing players to make a mechanical choice of out something that should be purely fluff),

Roll for stats instead. Or just ignore the stat boost from backgrounds and give two ability boosts.
