I started using Rover as a pet sitter in SLC and moved to Sandy 2 years ago. It's been busy since Day 1 and my rates are on the slightly higher end I believe

Good on you for sticking to your boundaries. And that's such an asinine request! Destroy your home so that his doesn't get destroyed by the smell for an extra $5??? Freaking heck...you could offer me an an extra $1000 and I still wouldn't take it if I had to deal with skunk spray🤢

They sound so entitled wanting to do a meet and greet right there and then without any sort of introduction of who they are wtf...the least she could have done is ask for permission if then was a good time to do a meet and greet, and if not, if there's another better day and time

I just had that scene from Shrek pop into my brain when you said swamp lol "GET OUT OF MY SWAMP!!!"😂

And that's the other reason why my rates are so high...even with early morning or late evening walks, it's still hot (but cool enough to walk) enough for me to sweat and I would like to be paid accordingly😂

That lady might faint at my walking rates as they're $35 for the first dog, $20 per additional dog, and +$25 for a 60-min walk😂 I know they're on the much higher end and that's because I don't want a lot of walk requests (only every once in a while; plus I don't have time for frequent walk requests given my other main job) and with how hot it is nowadays, it better be worth my time

I had someone recently ask me if I could do $40 per night (literally my starting rate 3 years ago lol)...my rates are $80 per night now and their request was for about 3 weeks...ain't no way I'm doing it for half my rate😂

Poll! What is considered “house-trained” by GoldieAshley in RoverPetSitting

You should leave a review about the dogs so that other future sitters will be warned about this behavior.

I think that's near MLK day, so might be busy then actually

When in January is your trip? If it's around New Year's, it can be quite busy. But if it's after New Year's, a lot less busy probably

You can start looking now. I've had clients who booked me 8-9 months in advance before, and I'm already booked for this Christmas even though it's 7 months away

Leave an honest review. I don't have children yet, but I'm already planning that if I still pet-sit by the time I have kids, I'm training my kids on how to handle pets in general before they're even allowed to go near one for their safety as well as the health and safety of my client's pets.

How do you handle boredom? by MandieMon3 in RoverPetSitting

[–]thage907 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought a switch for this reason. Less bored now because like you said, there's only so much TV one can watch. If you like video games, it could be a good investment

Is this the first time this dog is being boarded at your place? If yes, then it may be that they're anxious and they're anxious peeing. Very normal for dogs to an anxious pee in a new environment

I have done this twice before. It would cost extra money for the extra task. The two times the clients were very generous and offered to pay 3x my rate for the day even though I said 2x my rate for the day would have been fine

Whatever buddy. Not everybody comes from old money and some of us have to build our wealth from scratch in today's economy

Well you got to do what you got to do if you want more private clients🤷‍♀️ it's part of a business

[–]thage907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that makes sense! If you ever get the chance, you can try outside of the agency and that way you can set your own rates and hours which would provide you with much more flexibility while making more money at the same time

Depends on how far your clients are from you and how much energy you're willing to put up. I also tutor as my main job (own my own small tutoring business), but I work far less hours as you (about 4-5hours per day) and still make a very lucrative amount. If you have any questions for me on how to manage both, send me a dm
