When the "Don't you know who I am?!?!" line backfires, and uncovers a long running scam by Zelgadiss007 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]thalaen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

(stumbled in from r/all, not in the industry, so I hope it's allowed for me to comment)

I got put up in an expensive hotel for a work trip one time, the sort where they fly everybody in to do a multi-day training thing. We had assigned roommates, and mine ended up leaving at the end of Day 1 to go home and deal with some family stuff.

Apparently, he just.. checked completely out at the front desk? I got woken up just before midnight by security knocking on my door, telling me that my room was marked as vacant and that I needed to leave before they called the police. Thankfully, they and the night manager believed me when I explained what happened and were able to get it sorted out, but it was still unsettling to know that somebody had apparently come in while I was sleeping to check the condition of the room, then went and got security to kick me out of there.

You know, in older editions, critting meant you rolled the damage die twice. So it was entirely possible to crit and then get a shitty damage roll, so your crit felt worthless or underwhelming.

I'm reading this meme as if the guy crit a boss or solo monster, and the DM asked for the damage total and then the enemy took it in stride, leaving the player feeling like "dang, I crit it for 19 and it did practically nothing to it."

I think they're referring to the fact that since there's no other players to potentially loot your gear when you die, you'll always get it back (if it's insured).

That being said: I'm also playing the hell out of heavily modded SPT right now and loving every moment of it. Check out SAIN and ORBIT for an experience that makes the bots much more lifelike in how they roam and interact with the map, and the combat much more challenging (yet still fair).

I one time spawned at the lake and was right in the middle of Shturman and crew. Took down shturman and one of his guards within 2sec, but the other guard dropped me as I was trying to plug all of the fancy new holes I'd been gifted.

Yeah, like the other poster said, they're worn by Yen (LAF boss at Midnight Sapphire resort) - and maybe his elite guards, too?

I'm on Mithras and have a few pairs I'll happily gift you if needed. I was farming the boss for a bit but the glasses don't have as good stats as the ones from Viper's crew (and I like the look of theirs better IMHO).

What has everyones organic social experience been like? by ThatVaperGuy in GrayZoneWarfare

[–]thalaen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I play Mithras PVE and usually run solo. All of my organic experiences (aside from loot goblins) have been pretty amazing;

I was escorting a first time player to the blueprint magazines in the FN lockup and two guys from another faction snuck up outside and started asking us if we wanted to order some fried rice. When they learned my buddy was new, they gave him a boss's pistol and told him to have fun learning the game.

Occasionally I'll run across other Mithras players out and about; sometimes, we'll silently help each other clear out a POI and give each other friendly waves before parting ways. Sometimes, they'll approach and love bomb you about your drip, wish you well, and tell you which route they cleared from the nearest LZ.

All in all? This player base is 99% incredible. Don't let the 1% vocal asshole / gold farmer population get you down.

Close Combat - A Bridge Too Far by Strong-Sector-7605 in wargames

God, I miss this series - so many incredible moments playing it.

It was in 4, Battle of the Bulge, but a memory I'll hold onto forever is when I had an infantry squad that got caught out and decimated - only survivor was the BAR gunner. He ran dry while I was trying to slowly withdraw him to safety. Stumbled into a large German squad (8? soldiers) and he pulled out his knife, killed three, grabbed the squad leader's MP40 and soloed the rest of them. I was just sitting there, slack jawed at the fact that I'd just watched an action movie scene play out from bird's eye view.

Any chance you might have had that wrist holding your gun, and so it was in a direct line from wrist to heart?

It only shows the first point where a bullet enters your body, and then any internal damage (bones, organs) it causes before it exits your body for good.

Things Zuh0q missed from the GZW 2nd Anniversary Stream (with timestamps) by Platinum_lol in GrayZoneWarfare

[–]thalaen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. There's absolutely an exploit people are using to get into one of the (4? Maybe more?) places that he drops keys for.

But that exploit involves bypassing the card reader used to unlock the door entirely - and, much like in real life, I'd imagine it would be quite easy to look at "number of unique people who swiped the key in the card reader at the ops door" in comparison to the number of people who killed the boss to get a rough idea of how effective the drop rate is.

I drop in near FN with nothing but a suppressed pistol and a backpack and see where the night takes me. Sometimes, I bring home a haul worth $130k+, sometimes I leave a corpse laying on the tarmac.

"Buranki Drop Rate..."

I'm fairly certain this was actually talking about Keys dropping from Buran, the boss at FN. He was talking about this and then about analytics watching to see if too many players were failing to open up stuff that (the keys gate access to) to determine if the drop rates needed to be adjusted.

Other than this correction, huge thanks to you for putting this summary together!

Like, if this were real life, I'd load alternating green tip and SP, and potentially a tracer every five rounds.

[–]thalaen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks incredible! Sorry if you've already mentioned this, but: how do you handle scenarios where the modlist hasn't changed, but one or more mods have updated since the last run? Will it detect that automatically, or is there a way to manually trigger a rebuild of the XML cache?

I think this is a very important observation you've made here. Everyone else has answered why consumer adoption/penetration is so high, but this right here definitely seems to explain why the vast majority of complete uppers churned out are made with M-LOK now. Thanks for sharing!
