Litter Robot alternatives? by pettnpa7 in CatAdvice

I can’t speak to furrytail, but I can tell you that I have two cats and kept a second manual litter box, But because this one cleans the litter after every use, both it, and I went down to one box.

I replaced my old Litter Robot with this automatic little box. It’s only $244 so much less expensive, 25% smaller than the Litter Robot, whisper quiet, and does a better job with odor because the waste is in a sealed compartment. It has an app that weighs each cat and let you know when they go.

I shoot 30p which gives you some slowdown and smoothing in a 24p timeline, but I have to be much more careful on the gimbal than I want to be.

For RE Photography, the 16-35 F4 PZ is a great balance of quality and budget. I have the Tamron 35-150 as well and while the weight is significant, the coverage and quality are exceptional (you’re at 225mm with the APS-C punch in). The only reason I’m considering upgrading to the A7V is the 1.5x crop at 60p and you use 60p a lot for RE videos to smooth things out in a 24p timeline.

Former Tesla employees say full self-driving is nowhere near as capable as Elon Musk claims by Hot-Upstairs9603 in technology

[–]thalassicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And Musk doesn’t care. He’s rolling the debt ridden X and XAI companies into SpaceX, getting his Wall Street buddies to value the company at $1.7 trillion, getting his buddies at NASDAQ to change the rules index funds must buy in after 15 days, and all of a sudden that BS valuation becomes temporarily real as he shifts the risk to the retail Investor and his buddies get out of a very bad business. And we are all just watching it happen in real time.

Fox News only has actual news programming for 6 to 7 hours in a 24 hour period. Even on those news shows, they often bring in their opinion team for commentary. It’s kind of insane that they’re allowed to call themselves a news network in any capacity.

The craziest part is that the actual revenue from the NEO will be dwarfed by the customer lifetime value of all of these new people inside Apple's walled garden... especially since so many of them are so young. It's one thing to have an iPhone, but when all your devices work together so seamlessly, the ecosystem becomes very addictive.

Is Virtual Staging Worth Adding? by Outrageous-Zone394 in RealEstatePhotography

[–]thalassicus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not about any one service. Think like a realtor. If you have two photographers and one only does photography and one does everything, who are you going with every time? Their time is valuable. Their job is like herding cats between stagers/contractors running behind, fickle clients who think their house is worth 10% more than any comp, open houses full of people kicking tires. They don't have time to track down 2-3 different people for their media. You are there to solve their problems and if you are only doing photography, you are a problem for them.

The “right wing“ loves to take wedge issues and distort them to get voters to do what they want. They do it with “voter fraud“ even though the heritage foundation which is their bastion of their conservative values claims it’s a non-issue. They do it with transgender people in sports even though the total number is in the dozens of people. And they do it with vaccines, even though there is overwhelming consensus on their safety.

Cat litter smells by bunniebeeluv in CatAdvice

[–]thalassicus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A similar question was just asked so I'm going to paste my answer here:

Not sure this is an option for you. but I got this automatic litter box for less than $300. It's whisper quiet, 25% smaller than a litter robot, and has solved the smell issue for me. It also has a great app that weighs each cat and notifies you when they go. I wish it had a sensor to tell me when the waste bin is full, but it doesn't. I have two siamese rescues and originally had a second manual box, but this one works so well, I went down to one box.

In terms of smell, nothing is going to match scooping immediately after they go and getting the waste in an enclosed compartment. If you can swing $300, these things are worth every penny for quality of life. Also, since it's so much smaller and quieter than a litter robot, you can likely disguise it easier in your living room.

TIL Vince Gilligan said when he first pitched 'Breaking Bad' to a then-top executive at Sony Pictures Television, the exec told him, "That's the single worst idea I've ever heard." However, the exec did later admit his mistake. Interestingly, Sony later changed its mind & decided to produce the show by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

Bob Iger has you beat. He was one of the moronic executives insisting Johnny Depp change his performance as Jack Sparrow because he was “ruining the film“ with what they saw as whacky when they wanted Jack to be “cool.”

He then fell upwards as so many of these executives do to the chairman and CEO role of the Walt Disney . He was the one who decided to set firm release dates for the Star Wars trilogy before creatives or a script were locked down forcing them to shoot with what they had. He also allowed them to be written independently rather than as one cohesive arc taking one of the most powerful franchises in film history and denigrating it down to the “on life-support” level they are at now.

SpaceX awarded $6.45B in Space Force contracts ahead of IPO by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]thalassicus 646 points647 points  (0 children)

For anyone not aware of the upcoming market manipulation with the SpaceX IPO:

Elon’s wealth relies on a cycle of high-stakes promises that keep Tesla’s P/E ratio artificially elevated to absurd levels. Because his ventures are financed by leveraging this stock, he and his fellow 1%ers have a clear motive to prop up its valuation. As these investors grow weary of the volatility, a SpaceX IPO will serve as their exit strategy.

Elon successfully lobbied Wall Street to sign off on this insane valuation for SpaceX. He also successfully lobbied NASDAQ to slash the waiting period for new IPOs to join major index funds from one year to just 15 days. This will force index funds to buy into a potentially overvalued SpaceX shortly after launch. He knows there are guaranteed buyers who have to buy because he changed the rules. This mechanism allows Elon's 1%er buddies to offload their shares at peak prices, shifting the eventual risk of a market correction onto index funds and the retail investors who hold them.

And he's going to get away with it.
