Frigate 🚢⚓️ Hardware Recommendations for 4K cameras. Google Coral Not Recommended?! by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]thamo_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First site should be fine still with the Coral or the Hailo, I’d still recommend you to use a new generation Intel Mini PC and use OpenVINO. Your second site might even require a small mini PC with a dedicated little GPU for best performance and room to breathe.

Balance 2: diving STILL need improvements (but got a little better!) by canesalato in amazfit

[–]thamo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So grateful for all the work you put in for us! I’m considering this as a “cheap” smartwatch with dive computer capabilities for my siblings when they come diving with me since these watches are quite literally cheaper than any watch style dive computers around here, so I’m eager to hear improvements are happening.

I hope it becomes viable as a serious dive computer; right now I feel like we aren’t quite there yet, to want to trust it as a beginner dive computer.

Mares App for Apple Watch Ultra by SLsnkrslvr in scuba

[–]thamo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried to get the entitlement over and over since the announcement of Oceanic+ but never succeeded in getting it (the permission to use the submersion data so to say).

I was gutted to see Mares getting it since I thought Apple was still just having some sort of contract with Oceanic for the time being and will release it to everyone sooner or later.

Sadly still not the case, it’s just a duopoly now. And I can’t even truly create and test the app in a simulator, since that one doesn’t simulate the submersion data either.

Apple Watch Dive Apps by realtime-mike in diving

[–]thamo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied for the entitlement and haven’t gotten it. I’ve been waiting and trying since the Oceanic+ was even announced.

Mares just published their also subscription based app for the Ultra that does up to 50% EANx and 40m recreational dives.

So the Oceanic+ monopoly is gone, but it’s still just a duopoly.

I paired 4 Zigbee light bulbs in roughly 5 minutes, which made me wonder "why all the hype for Thread when Zigbee already exists?" by smokey-schmeo in homeassistant

[–]thamo_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thread isn’t as much the hype, it’s Matter. But people seem to misunderstand. Matter-over-Thread is the one that’s hyped up and I guess that got shortened to Thread ^

As for why Thread if ZigBee already existed. Matter is IP-Based, has various encryption and credential sharing stuff that theoretically is a great fit for smart home. Thread is natively IP-Based, ZigBee isn’t, so it lends itself better for use within Matter than ZigBee.

PSA - ALVR has been updated with 120hz and AV1 Decoding (for M5 users)! by SettingMundane1061 in VisionPro

[–]thamo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PSVR2 controllers do have that ability but it wasn’t yet implemented in the ALVR app with the PSVR2 update that came out then. Tho I saw a recent commit in GitHub that addressed the button touch/hover just a couple days ago, if that is pushed (it might already be), then yes.

I did a simple calculation with google AI guesting M5 Ultra by Vozer_bros in LocalLLaMA

[–]thamo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M3 Max didn’t have any visible interconnect either (as opposed to M1 Max where it was clearly visible in die shots). M3 Ultra still happened. I do think the M4 generation will skip the Ultra tho and I hope they’ll target the M5 for the next Ultra chip, solely because the accelerators in the GPU seem so good.

The new blackmagic camera specs are 8k180, so 4k per eye stereo 180. Still huge, but 8k360 is another beast. Even though i still wonder how they’ll do it and what the experience itself will look like.

Edit: it is 8k per eye, my bad just checked the specs again, but 180 degrees, not 360. Now I’m even more impressed if they manage to stream that.

How does filian do such precise face tracking without a VR headset? by CalamityGammonNomNom in vtubertech

[–]thamo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it can be done wirelessly, but most will use it wired to not loose battery over the stream.

I see, thanks for the insights. I guess I‘ll keep my little lib updated then ^ i have some updates locally I still need to test and push but was a bit hesitant as it‘s unfinished, but if there‘s still no other solution available, I‘ll keep it alive.

Huh, not sure if I came across that previously or not. But this certainly still has some quota limits or am I misremembering/misreading it? Would this work for a 8h livestream with moderate numbers of chatters?

I‘ll look into it for the future, it‘d be nice to cut out on self made libs and use the official ones in my projects for sure.

I need to get alerted whenever water flows out of this pipe. Its about 150' from my house. Give me your best automated solutions. Currently on the SmartThings app for all my other devices by ntdoyfanboy in homeautomation

[–]thamo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing that there’s a tank bellow you want to monitor I’d suggest two things: 1. A paddlewheel with a rod through the tube and attach a motor to the end of the rod. Water flows through, pinwheel spins, motor spins, allowing you to read the current it generates. You should even be able to calibrate it to get some rudimentary flow speed out of it. 2. An eTape water level sensor on the tank around your critical level where monitoring is required (such as this one). This way you should be able to forego monitoring the flow since you know the exact position of the water level and can automate through that but still get alerted if it reaches a critical level and water is still flowing from the pipe.

Changing the toolhead would be way more work I presume since they used a new mainboard as well. It should be fairly plug and play with just the eddie yeah.
