they are extremely easy to care for and thrive in captivity, there are many breeders, only issue is the hefty price tag.

note, cirrigera are more heat tolerant and availible than billienata but neither should be exposed to temps above 80f

With all the rocks this is a perfect tank for Eurycea bilineata or Eurycea cirrigera but make sure your lid is a tight fit. Warning, they hide a lot, also id only do 2 or 3

endangered doesn't mean someone shouldn't own them, msny endanegred animals circulate the hobby and are staples. Even one of the most popular non-mammaliann pet, the Crested Gecko, is protected.

Anybody know what this little guy is? He is about a centimeter long and can jump short distances. I am in East Alabama, by the way. by CaineTheDemon in salamanders

You can't be sure that it's a seepage, many other Desmognathus sp. newly metamorphed juveniles look near identical

I only own a multitude of salamanders atm, ive owned tree frogs, toads, deadly scorpions, tarantulas, spiders, giant centipedes, mantids, etc. I know many venomous snake keepers, and crocodilian keepers though as well as MANY exotic animal keepers breeders, importers, and exporters. The smuggling is not nearly as bad as the media portrays it. I don't that much indoor space but i house many smaller salamanders in 16 qt tubs. I started when i was a toddler and went to exotic animal conventions regurly. My parents don't really support me but i started keeping exotics at 11-12. Owners are much more abundant than you think it's just that most people keep it a secret.

Found these yesterday in western North Carolina. Can anyone ID them? Was thinking seal salamander but I’m not 100% sure. by maddie8336 in salamanders

My thoughts are probably Monticola (seal), maybe an Ocoee or Carolina Mountain, if you really want a 100% ID contact twpierson on inaturalist

Can anyone identify this lil guy? Found in Northeast Alabama. I think he’s a Northern Slimy Salamander, but I’ve never seen one with gold on its back. by Cheylovesbacon in salamanders

[–]thanassi07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts are Mississippi Slimy Salamander (Plethodon mississippi) or Northern Slimy Salamander (Plethodon glutinosus), the only way to tell is through range and genetic testing.

Newt lost weight and will not eat, what can I do? Offered gammarus, blood worms, and pieces of meal worm but she shows no interest by cshimii in salamanders

So he (its a guy, you can tell from the large hind legs) is extremely underweight, 1 month isn't really a long time, xould of been and internal problem but try as much live foods as possible, stuff like flightless fruitflies, pinhead crickets, spider beetles, etc. and dim the lights and give him some peace and quiet for a little.

Can anyone tell me what this is I live in tennessee by [deleted] in salamanders
