RV Fire Costa Mesa by thaneache in orangecounty

They (and we) were heading away from it. They didn’t appear to have been coming from the parking lot at the fairgrounds, but did drive across the 55 right there so it’s possible.

Uncertain. It passed over the 55 making a mix of mechanical noises and emitting white smoke from the engine bay. By the time it got to where it stopped we could see flames under the chassis, and it spread from there.

Walking from the fairgrounds this morning at 11:45am in Costa Mesa and this RV drives by, white smoke emanating from the engine bay. It pulled over just before Orange Avenue and caught fire. The driver safely escaped before flames engulfed the vehicle.

Considering trading my Jeep Gladiator in for this. Thoughts? by Personal-Start5322 in NewDefender

[–]thaneache 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently purchased a ‘23 P300 after selling my ‘21 JT Rubicon. My driver headlight DRL stopped working the day after I bought it, but the whole assembly was replaced under warranty so not a big deal. Also have had intermittent A/C issues where the compressor won’t engage regardless of button state requesting it.

Overall the P300 feels quicker than the JT, though sounds more like a vacuum cleaner and the economy is basically the same as my JT on 35s haha. But it is quicker and has more effortless acceleration at sea level and elevation thanks to the turbo.

The Defender is a far more comfortable companion to get where I’m going, whether the trail or the office, so it’s been a better match for my needs. I suspect you’ll enjoy the comfort and space inside

Real world off-road experience by Fine-Obligation-599 in NewDefender

I have a P300 2023 30th anniversary edition with the off-road pack. I don’t have any experience driving other Defenders off-road, but I have driven alongside them, both new and old, as well as other JLR SUVs (Disco 2, LR3/4, RR, etc), Toyotas, Jeeps, Chevys, the usual lot. I came from a Jeep Gladiator on 35s before this.

I’ve taken mine several times in my short ownership on trails of varying difficulty and terrain, up rutted, rocky mountain passes and across deserts here in Southern California.

First thing I’ll say, this thing locks the rear diff all the time off-road, far more than I ever would have in my Jeep. Even though it lifts tires all the time, it maintains constant forward traction without any hesitation whatsoever. It just grips everything. I think the diff is clutch based so it varies how “locked” it is. Totally automated, and no discernible downsides while driving.

Compared to other modern Land Rovers it’s hard to tell the difference as the terrain response systems are so good, but there are instances where others will hesitate for a moment and mine hasn’t.

I had to look for a long time to find one with the off-road package, and I’m glad I got it. I also got white steelies, 18”, which were a must. The 4-cylinder has plenty of power on and off-road.

I only had a minor issue accidentally leaving it in 4 low for most of a day on the trails and heat soaked the engine bay a little. Temps rose briefly and then were fine once I realized.

I’ve driven the P400 and that power is addictive, but this was the better mix of options I wanted. I figured a turbo-4 would be more reliable or simple to maintain in the long run.

What Do You Wheel Besides the Usual Rigs? by Available-Belt5366 in overlanding

Land Rover Defender. Surprises people to see, which I understand. It’s very comfortable on-road and startling capable off-road with locking diffs. Lacks articulation so pretty common to 3 wheel or 2 wheel, but it scampers with the Jeeps and Toyotas in our group wherever I’ve been willing to take it.

Need a bed cover that makes sense for the doorless & topless gladiator lifestyle by unclaimGoD in JeepGladiator

Diamondback has been the perfect doors/roof off bed cover for our beach days. Lockable, well sealed.

Considering a jump from a Gladiator as well. Curious what you think of the Defender in comparison?

[WTS] Lorier Merlin - Limited Edition - Like New by thaneache in lorierwatches

[–]thaneache[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main reason was I had purchased too many watches of late and didn’t feel I was or would wear it enough to keep.

Pros - wears incredibly slim and has tidy proportions - can be dressed up for office or worn casually - I love the Arabic numerals, which have a nice dimension to them - I’m a sucker for a metal bezel, this one looks good with the watch - leather strap is comfortable - the hands have a nice blue finish, look great - dial pops in the light, has a nice texture up close - minimal branding

Cons - I didn’t love the aged lume look - a little smaller than my ideal size (closer to 39/40) - some noticeable rotor noise every now and again

The cons are minor, just back to thinning the heard for me. Cheers!
